The time has finally arrived, college. It’s been a whirl of emotions attending college from intimidation of not knowing exactly how college works or where my classes would be to an exciting anticipation to explore the city of Miami up close. I’m the first in my family to go to college and it is an honor. I’ve always imagined what college would be like and now that I’m here it’s has exceeded all my expectations. The reasons why I’m attending college are for my parents because I want them to see that their hard work was not in vain. Also, for my future family who I hope to provide for one day and lastly for myself because I want to pursue a higher education. For starters my parents are a huge reason why I’m going to college. Both my parents
The first reason is because I just really want to make my parents proud. I am going to be the first person in my family to attend college in the United States. This is a honor I praise highly. I don't want to disappoint my parents by not attending college because they have sacrificed a lot for me. When we first moved to the United States life was rough. My dad couldn't find a stable job and my mom struggled to adapt to life in South Carolina. As hard as it was though, my parents did their best to give the best education and childhood possible. We eventually prevailed and settle down well in South Carolina. My parents support keep me going all the way through high
In the beginning of the term the class had a discussion about why we are attending college and why they choose the major we are in. Many of the students answer that because they wanted to gain knowledge but also other responded because without an education you cannot get a lot of money. In the article “Making college relevant” by Kate Zernike quoted that in a survey done in Los Angeles, California to 400,000 incoming freshmen in 1971 their answers were that only 37 percent went to college to get money and 73 percent to gain knowledge. The same survey was done in 2009 but the percentages flipped 78 percent wanted money and 48 prefered to gain knowledge. Our percentages were very similar to the 2009 ones. We are in a society where you are expected
Education is key. My parents have always taught me that whatever you learn stays with you for the rest of your life. College is my aspiration. I want to attend a four year university to maintain a better lifestyle. I love learning new things; it’s like an addiction and you just want to absorb more knowledge. I witness my parents arrive home everyday tired because all they desire is to give me a better life. They want me to succeed and I have just opened my eyes and realized life is harder than I thought. My parents want the best for me and I want the best for myself which means if I try my best I can achieve my goal into making it into a four year university and graduating.
I don’t think the reality of college hit me until this year. It always seemed like an abstract idea rather than a reality but a reality it is. I know college isn’t necessary for a successful life, my dad has done just fine for example. But at the end of the day, college represents something more for me, something extra. The reason I want to be in college is simple, I want to better myself, dive deeper into learning and strive to exceed the expectations set out for me.
Every since I was a child my parents always spoke about college.A dream of theirs has now become a huge goal for me, to be the first in my family to attend and graduate college. In the third grade, after getting a good grade on my tests their faces would light up and would tell me how proud they were of the intelligent young lady I was becoming and how they wanted me to make something great out of myself, but most importantly impact and change something in the community. As a little third grade girl I smiled and noded without fully grasping the meaning of what they were talking about. By the age of ten I knew what they meant and that’s how I knew that pursuing law school and becoming a lawyer is what I wanted to do with my life,
Why? This is the question that is before me right now. Why am I attending college? What degree is it that I am pursuing, and why? The expected answers to the question, “Why are you attending college?” is, to make better money, or to provide for myself and my family. With me, the answer to this question is different.
People ask me why I'm going to college all the time. Or more specifically, why I'm starting so late. Most of my friends are graduating college this year, just as I'm starting my first year. Some tell me they loved it, and others tell me it's a complete waste of time and money. Not going to college has never been an option for me. My goal here is to get a bachelor's degree in computer programming, start my career, and better myself for my kids so they can have a better life and something to look up to.
After getting many certifications in a couple of different areas I ended up at a dead end. Employers seem to care more about a degree than certifications, even know you know a lot of the same material from a degree.
My biggest fear is letting down my family and also myself. Having to pick up a job to help my family is definitely a possibility and the biggest challenge that could prevent me from getting a degree. I’ve always wanted to go to college as a kid and this is a challenge that I will have to tackle on my own.
I know exactly what I want to be become. I want to become one of the greats, and discover things that could change someone’s entire life. I do not want to go into medicine for the money, or even the praise that would come along with being titled a neurosurgeon. I have decided to pursue medicine because I know that it will continually challenge me and push me past my limits.
Neither of my parents have had the opportunity to attend college. They have experienced many struggles in their personal and professional lives because of this. However their love and sacrifice keeps me going. I devote the time and energy necessary to succeed academically despite money being tight. Not only am I focused on my education, but I have also been active in my school and community outside of the classroom. I am an active member on the student council as Vice President. I do not play any instruments, however , I love singing and so I use my vocal instrument to express myself. I joined my schools vocal choir, Vocal Ensemble during my sophomore year and have been an active member as a soprano range singer ever since. Lastly I volunteer
Many people love going to college because they want to be succeed in life. Education makes people successful in life. People have different reasons for going to college such as they want to make money, more opportunities, make connections, build confidence, make their family proud, want to be a successful and love getting an education, these are some reasons why people go to college. There are three reasons why I decided to attend college.
I lived in a small town called Hamlin, and I went to Hamlin High School. Hamlin Is where many high school graduates don’t even think about going to college, the thought of that horrified me. I know that it will take hard work to get where I want in the end, but ever since the start of my junior year, I have started to focus on my grades. In high school, I went from A’s, B’s, and C’s to mostly all A’s. I have been planning on attending Texas Tech University in the fall of 2019. I want to double major in Political Science and History. I haven’t decided if I want to be a teacher or not, but one thing is for sure, I want to be the first in my family to graduate college, but the fact of the matter is my family just doesn’t have enough money to pay for all of my education.
Coming up in a broken home watching my mother struggle to raise four children with little to no help.Watching my mother attempt to make a better life for me and my siblings, but without some sort of certification, it was hard to provide for her growing family. What if she would have gotten that education? Would it have been different?
Some of the people do not have a plan to work with, but some of them do have a good plan to achievable. It’s more comfortable to have a plan to do what you think about. The main ideas for my plan are graduate, get a work and go to college.
