In elementary school, everything is about preparing for middle school, and once middle school arrives, it shifts to getting ready for high school. As soon as you start high school, the common question becomes; “where do you want to go to college?” or as a dancer, they ask “do you want to go to college?” The answer always seemed obvious to me but lately, I’ve been evaluating what my purpose is. What can I achieve in college that I couldn’t otherwise?
I’ve always had a passion for learning. Ever since I can remember, I was curious about the world around me, how things worked, and why events happened. I can honestly say that the reason I want to go to college is because I yearn to be in a place where I am intellectually and academically challenged,
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to
I decided to go to college because I believe that education is an important part of life and that being educated has many advantages. Like many, one of the biggest reasons for deciding to attend college is to create a better future for myself. Being a first-generation college student my parents have implanted on me the importance of college education, as it is something they wish they would have done themselves. As the first of four children to go to college, I feel that it is my responsibility to be a good example to my younger siblings, and show them that it is important to have goals in life and to better yourself as a person through education. I understand that an university education may not be for everyone, but it felt like the right choice for me. What I hope to get out of college is a life-changing experience, not only to get a better education, but to find something I am truly passionate about. I think it is important when choosing a career or a major to find something your heart truly wants and not just a career that will make you able to afford expensive things. I also hope that somewhere along the path to graduation and adulthood, I find myself as a person and develop ideas, opinions, and to be able to approach the world with an
There might be a time where people ask you, “why are you in college” or “why to decide to go to college.” People might reply by saying that they want a degree, that they want a higher paying job, or they need that for a future career that they are pursuing. Those responses are the most typical reason of why people go to college. Sure you can say that having a degree means that a person can get a better job with better pay rather than working in the manual labor fields with minimum pay. A college degree is the fundamental stepping stone to the future, it lays the foundation of where to start. College is everything to me; I’m in college so I’m able to unlock more potential in myself, to be able to make my mother proud with everything that she has done and hopefully becoming the first.
In the beginning of the term the class had a discussion about why we are attending college and why they choose the major we are in. Many of the students answer that because they wanted to gain knowledge but also other responded because without an education you cannot get a lot of money. In the article “Making college relevant” by Kate Zernike quoted that in a survey done in Los Angeles, California to 400,000 incoming freshmen in 1971 their answers were that only 37 percent went to college to get money and 73 percent to gain knowledge. The same survey was done in 2009 but the percentages flipped 78 percent wanted money and 48 prefered to gain knowledge. Our percentages were very similar to the 2009 ones. We are in a society where you are expected
Education is key. My parents have always taught me that whatever you learn stays with you for the rest of your life. College is my aspiration. I want to attend a four year university to maintain a better lifestyle. I love learning new things; it’s like an addiction and you just want to absorb more knowledge. I witness my parents arrive home everyday tired because all they desire is to give me a better life. They want me to succeed and I have just opened my eyes and realized life is harder than I thought. My parents want the best for me and I want the best for myself which means if I try my best I can achieve my goal into making it into a four year university and graduating.
Throughout my entire life--or, only as much of it as I can remember--my family struggled financially, as we still do. I had become so accustomed to my family’s penny-pinching tendencies that I would constantly compare prices whenever I went to the grocery store to see if I could find a cheaper price.
Why? This is the question that is before me right now. Why am I attending college? What degree is it that I am pursuing, and why? The expected answers to the question, “Why are you attending college?” is, to make better money, or to provide for myself and my family. With me, the answer to this question is different.
People ask me why I'm going to college all the time. Or more specifically, why I'm starting so late. Most of my friends are graduating college this year, just as I'm starting my first year. Some tell me they loved it, and others tell me it's a complete waste of time and money. Not going to college has never been an option for me. My goal here is to get a bachelor's degree in computer programming, start my career, and better myself for my kids so they can have a better life and something to look up to.
I am attending college in order to better the life of myself and my family to come. I would like them to be able to have everything they need, without worrying about money. I am originally from New York, because of this I saw the way my single mother struggled to pay bills on time. We needed to keep our payments to a minimum due to how expensive rent, clothes, and food can be in the city. This motivated me to get a higher education in order to ensure I will have a successful career. I want to enjoy my job while not having to live paycheck to paycheck. This will enable me to make milestones as simplistic as possible to overcome.
I want to go to the college because is the place that a person inside it can live a best period in his life, meet peoples from all countries, live with friends in internal sections and learn another communities culture, it’s amazing thing. I want to go to the college also to get a great certificate and gain more learn then get a job to help my family and peoples through my
While I researched different colleges, I found that there were a lot of differences between them. Some colleges are are 4-year commitments and some are only 2 years. While one college may only offer a masters and bachelors degree in one major, another college may only offer an associate's. College is very expensive and tuition is rising dramatically each year which is why I would also like to join the Navy and get a free education. Although I would have to go to a college that offers NROTC in order to get tuition assistance, it will be well worth it. After I retire from the Navy, I will use my major and become a registered nurse. My goal in this paper is to inform the reader on what my plans are for after I graduate high school.
When deciding on a college option, most people choose their colleges based on the size, the location, the majors available and financial aid. I, like those people payed attention to those options, but I, unlike many others, looked for a way to keep whom I was hidden; to continue restraining my curls from breathing. Since an early age, being Dominican, I was taught that to look “presentable” and to feel “beautiful” my curls had to be kept straight, manageable, to iron and suffocate this wild tangle of hair that grasps for air. In this way, when I was faced with the challenge of deciding between an excellent college like Bates and not so good ones, the ability to be able to keep myself, and most importantly my hair “beautiful” was highly considered. I almost decided to go to a college close to home simply because I had easier access to Dominican hair salons, you sure can’t find those in Lewiston, Maine! When May 1st of last year had come I had made my decision: I would try out Bates for a year and see how I’d do, if I didn’t feel comfortable I would
The time has finally arrived, college. It’s been a whirl of emotions attending college from intimidation of not knowing exactly how college works or where my classes would be to an exciting anticipation to explore the city of Miami up close. I’m the first in my family to go to college and it is an honor. I’ve always imagined what college would be like and now that I’m here it’s has exceeded all my expectations. The reasons why I’m attending college are for my parents because I want them to see that their hard work was not in vain. Also, for my future family who I hope to provide for one day and lastly for myself because I want to pursue a higher education.
We finally made it to college! Since we are living together, you should know a few things about me.
I originate myself, which allowed me to be the young lady I am today and I will not desecrate that. I will be successful and go to college. High school was only the beginning for me and I have yet to finish my goal. I have more risks to take, more days to study, and actions to take part of. College will allow me to develop. At a point of time I didn’t know who I was, but now I know; a future Nurse practitioner. College will allow me to discover more about myself and the outside world. I’m ready for the harsh lessons that will prepare me for my future. I’m ready to learn from my own mistakes and better from them. I’m ready to make my own decisions instead of my parent’s. I’m ready to feel the sense of the struggle of life. I’m ready
