Personal Values Over recent years technology has rapidly advanced. Computers are smaller, more portable, and faster than ever, the tablet has been introduced and can use the internet as well as hold applications and music, cell phones have gone “smart” and can access the internet from almost anywhere, and so much more. With all these advancements in technology, social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, has been on the rise. Social media has become exceedingly popular, and with this increased use of social media comes more power to people posting, thus more responsibility for what they say over the internet. There are certain rules or guidelines people need to keep in mind when using social media and they mostly relate to guidelines people already follow when they speak. The first is think before you post. Posters should ask themselves whether the content they are about to publish is appropriate. Another guideline is don’t publish posts about people that you wouldn’t want other people to post about you. Similar to the golden rule of treating others the way you want to be treated, people should only post things that they’d be okay with other people posting about them. The last, and probably the most important guideline is to consider the consequences of the post. Could a post potentially cause problems for the publisher or others, or is it a harmless, fun post?
