By investing in a Master of Social Work degree, I envision the opportunity to design a wellness program in a healthcare reform market. Researching alternative therapy and its effects on behavioral health outcomes is one focus of my study. In conjunction with my course of study, I intend to acquire the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification, Competent Communicator credential from Toastmasters, and American Council on Exercise personal trainer certification within the next year. These additional certifications support my framework for personal wellness which is a leading indicator of my diversified approach to becoming a professional social worker. Health care in America is shifting from treatment to preventative care. Corporations are making
Xxx utilized wellness programs to promote healthy behaviors (McCarthy & Klein, 2010, p. 3). These wellness programs reduced the need for expensive acute and specialty care.
The personal wellness plan assignment helped me strengthen my ability to take action and achieve what was important to me by teaching me strategies to help keep me focused. Of the components that were required to be completed, writing out my S.M.A.R.T goals was the most beneficial aspect for me. By giving myself guidelines to follow, I became more motivated to achieve my goal. Additionally, by identifying who my support system was given a sense of comfort knowing I’d have people to turn during the tough times. In my opinion, had I not identified those individuals I believe I would have felt alone and lost motivation. Thinking of future clients, I believe the two strategies I mentioned would be great recommendations. As a health coach, your
While working in W.I.C., I became aware of the need for substance abuse and mental health counseling in western North Carolina. Therefore, in April 2013, through grants offered to veterans, I returned to college to begin my education in social work with a concentration in substance abuse and mental health counseling. I had previously obtained an A.S. in Christian Education and found that the knowledge gained through those classes was foundational and relevant to the social work field.
With a master 's level education in social work, I see myself envisioning clients’ health and well-being. As a student, I will study and practice techniques, beyond a generalist perspective, that will allow me to give clients hope and the ability to see something greater than what they are facing. Upon completion of a Master of Social Work direct practice degree and certificates in gerontology and mental health programs, I intend to become a licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I will competently incorporate specialized skills in different professional settings while developing my knowledge of a wide range of social issues and professional standards. With commitment, I wish to develop skills that will enable me to create or find hidden resources and services for my future clients, create platforms through counselling for victims of trauma.
McIntyre informed me that having a Bachelor Degree in Social Work was rewarding; Nevertheless, she wanted to become an inspiring therapist. Therefore, she applied for the master program at Arkansas State University. She was accepted and in the summer of 2014, she started grad school. She did her additional training for the grad school at Day Spring Behavior Health. She was trained in diversity, social work value and ethical, and economic injustice with clients. Afterward completion of 60 credit hours and 400 field hours, she graduated with her Master Degree in Social Work, May 2016.
My journey through MSW canidacy have offered me professional growth and new found strength in a profession that provides individualized services to a diverse population of consumers. Emphaiszing in clinical social work allowed me to understand multiple roots and causes of pychiatric illness, treatment, and theuputic approaches. I have a enageged in research, presentations, program analysis, and grant writting, just to name a few skills I have acquired. I am able to work with and develop rapport with consumers from various populations such as adolecents, geriatrics, military, families, and young adults.By having a client centered approach I empower the client to take the lead in their treatment, work on their recovery at their own pace, and
As described in the application, the culmination of the capstone course requires completion of a community health promotion-prevention plan. Each student will analyze data obtained from a community assessment, and identify health problems of a particular community, or group at-risk. The health promotion-prevention plan will address the identified problems and needs of the aggregate. The student will disseminate findings from their capstone experience in the form of a paper and electronic poster presentation.
Leading a nutritious and healthy lifestyle with the incorporation of exercise is the path I am currently walking on and will continue to follow in my later years. Following the healthy eating plan I currently put myself on is a step in the right direction and the many steps that will follow will be the guide to a continuous nutritional lifestyle.

My emotional wellness goal is to not let the little thing in life worry me or annoy me, lately I have noticed that I am more sensitive to little things that shouldn’t bother me and becoming overly sensitive to them. I will not let things that are trivial disrupt my happiness. To accomplish this goal I will need to not focus or try to ignore things that could potentially aggravate me. Focus on the person and not the action and just calm down and think about whatever it is in the grand scheme of life. If I can go a week with minimal worrying or annoyance I will be rewarded with less stress and a more peaceful week. The target date for working on this is going to be a month.
When considering a self-care, plan regarding, biological needs, I think of the things I do that keep me healthy and keep me feeling good physically. I try hard to take good care of myself, by eating right and staying active. Continuing these habits is crucial to keeping me healthy. I try to keep myself in good health and avoid getting sick. The more I speak with other social work students and instructors; they recommend yoga and meditation. An exercise is a great tool to use when relaxing; a student doing practicum and they can use the meditation for de-stressing themselves after a day at the office.
As an 18 year old, single, child free, debit free, young adult, I have yet to scratch the surface of my life. There are many things that I have yet to experience, and many other things I never want to experience. When given the challenge of creating a “Wellness Plan” my mind went blank, until I discovered the quote “The most important person to be honest with is you.” In this paper you will find me; the person I am, and strive to be each day.
I am learning as I go but I currently am a student conduct hearing officer, speaking with students who have violated policy and disciplining if found responsible with sanctions. Through conduct hearings, I am able to process an array of issues that arise in the residence halls including roommate conflict, alcohol, controlled drug substances, sexual assault, and mental health. I am also learning to delegate tasks and inspire others to stay on track and focused on their goals. I also have felt validated in pursuing my masters in social work, especially in Dr. Norwards Generalist Practice class, during the self-care exercise. I am fascinated how the social work profession validates the social worker and the emotional history they bring to the table. Self-awareness and self-reflection have always been pillars that I wish to incorporate in my everyday and having a program validate this is inspiring. The self-care plan was so transformative for me that I brought them to my staff meeting that I hold weekly for my staff. It was amazing to hear their responses and gain a better understanding of what their going through but also how I can help them manage self-care.
As counselors we are required to take care of one’s mental health and wellness. We have holistic, nurturing and client- centered training. In doing so many counselors help their clients out by making a Leisure wellness plan. This plan is something that a client or individual can follow to keep themselves healthy and active. A Leisure plan is something that makes you help yourself feel better emotionally, mentally and physically. As stated by Elizabeth Venart a private practitioner (2011), “ The Importance of self-care is overtly discussed and modeled by faculty, and the curriculum of each course includes an emphasis on self-assessment and reflection as well as the development and implementation of concrete wellness plans and practices”(p.47). Leisure is seen as relaxing but at the same time working to take care of yourself to create the best version of you.
Whether it is a corporation or an individual, opportunities are available. As an individual, opportunities such as sports professional or management professional are endless. Human services professionals have relied on Health & Social Work for the latest advances in areas such as aging, long-term care, oncology, clinical work, substance abuse, depression, and maternal health. Social work in public health has blending roles such as provider of direct services, researcher, consultant, administrator, program planner, evaluator, and policy maker. The health and social needs functions are dependent on each other. (Standards of Practice Action Group 1999) The changing trends in health care delivery identified by NYAM include: the move from acute care to care of chronic illness and diseases of aging; increased emphasis on market forces and cost control; monitoring and measuring health outcomes based on health care interventions; wide recognition of the social and environmental determinants of disease; more responsibility on families to provide in home care; and increased patient participation in health care decision making (Volland et al. 1999).
