The nation has ranked first for having the best labour force and being the top Asian country for its quality of life (Sala-i-Martin, 2012). Other reasons that attract foreigners to work in Singapore include open recruitment policies, low taxations and a high standard of living. As for the local fresh graduate, it would be a relieved to know that entry-level positions are still available. According to Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang, there will be more than 30,000 jobs created this year, of which 6,000 will come from new investments coming into Singapore this year. MOM announced new rules that require employers to consider Singaporeans fairly before hiring Employment Pass (EP) holders. Firms with discriminatory hiring practices will be subject to additional scrutiny and may have their work pass privileges curtailed. These changes will reinforce expectations for employers to consider Singaporeans fairly for job opportunities and enhance job market transparency (Ministry of Manpower, 2013). This indicates that the Singapore government is tightening the controls of those companies who are giving the job opportunities to foreigners other then the local young graduates and professionals, managers and executives a fair chance at both job and development opportunities. Reason as to why more and more graduate struggle to find a job after university is due to the fact that more employers are looking for job candidates with
This following will outline my personal leadership practices and potential future leadership. To analyze my leadership qualities I will use the Seven Habits Profile and a leadership theory to determine my strengths, weaknesses, and areas of opportunity for improvement. Tight labor laws imposed by the government such as foreigner quotas have limited businesses to employ foreign workforce. This is very pressing on them, as business has to switch to the alternative of sourcing for local labor. Another issue rises with the employment of local labor, the demand to fulfill their requirements example such as high pay and easy work. With Singapore being the top of the list for the highest standard of living, wages or salaries inquired by them are above average, thereby creating an increasingly difficult problem to
the nurse educator in an e-mail to the supervisor and program director initiates communication, and a phone or face-to-face meeting is scheduled. Another avenue is for the nurse educator to introduce the idea in a staff meeting. After discussion, the nurse educator plans to develop the idea, identifying factors both for and against the change.
Management must pledge to deliver employees the opportunity for development through the use of training, cross-training and mentoring. Successful management will be required to provide an annual update on the programs and its outcomes. Management plans and organizes a program for the instruction of new and re-instruction of seasoned Skyrail operators, and other J3DMT employees as needed, in the proper and safe operation of Skyrail vehicles in accordance with J3DMT policies and procedures;
In recent years, due to the influx of foreign ‘talents’ and foreign workers, more and more Singaporeans are migrating to work and study in other countries due to the increasing stress of living in Singapore with increased competition. Some think that the education provided overseas are much better than what is offered in Singapore while others think that there are much more employment opportunities outside of Singapore, where there is a bigger labour pool. However, for myself, I would not like to study or work aboard as I feel that the education system in Singapore is already one of the best if not the best in the region, grooming top quality individuals that is able to help in the development of the country. Employment in the country is also
Local and foreign labour are deemed essential to Singapore’s workforce in order to sustain competitiveness in economic development. However long standing past policy implication and current policy taken by the Government to spur economic development, could be argued to affect the labour market and SMEs in the long run.
Organizations are developing very quickly and touching new heights as things have become available worldwide, organizations are not limited to the physical parameters as their existence is found everywhere where ever there is demand of the products. The ultimate aim of the organization is to get noticed all around the globe, and to attain this achievement at the global level the crucial elements which play a significant role are organizational cultural system and the organization structure. The employees working in the organization must be given freedom where they can express their views as the organization consists of people from different countries by taking this step it would be helpful for the organization to create an efficient
Organizational development (OD) is an application or process of building a greater level of efficiency within the organization. OD develops the ongoing effort geared for long-term effects. OD works to help management and employees on a variety of levels. Organizational development is perhaps unequaled in its ability to meet any type of organization needs. However, the solutions developed from the role of OD may not be necessarily interchangeable with different organizations (Grant, 2010).
Organizational Management, the procedure which takes account of planning, organizing, leading and controlling the practices and efforts of the members and resources which are aligned with a particular organizational structure in order to get the hold of pre-defined organizational motives, leads to Organizational Development (OD) by employing several diagnostic models for OD within the undertaken organizational structure. The core agenda to be discussed in this analytical piece of writing is to analyze the impacts of strategic OD on comprehensive management and affirmed development of the companies. It can be evidently stated that all decisions, no matter how big or small they are, no matter they are needed to be made on specific occasions or on every day basis, and are for any particular organizational sector or are supposed to be effective for the entire firm, its managerial staff is required to be competent enough to frequently solve certain problems and consistently carry out and execute decisions that are for the betterment of the company (Hoover, 2008).
In Singapore as of December 2009, 85% of the workforce in the private sector was employed in establishments that had some form of flexible wage system, up marginally by 84% in 2008. It is known best for its thriving business economy. According to WEF Global Competitiveness Report, it is the most competitive economy in Asia (Bernhardt, 2010). According to World Bank it’s the easiest place in Asia to invest and do business. It’s common for businesses in Singapore to use employment contracts with employees. A contract typically contains information about duties, salary, work hours, benefits, and terminating and is documented in writing (Bernhardt, 2010).
Over the last 40 years, organization development has been widely applied in organizations settings across the world since it emanated from United States (Rees, 2008) and has progressed from a limited conceptual and practice base into a comprehensive, global approach to organizational improvement (Glassman and Cummings,1991), so it seems that understanding organization development’s content and its relations to organizations has become more and more critical for OD professions. Therefore, as a student study organizational change and development, I will explore these aspects in this essay.
Management is one of the important aspects in establishing a business. It is the performance
