One of the most pressing issues is that of driving under the influence of alcohol. This is a problem for many reasons. Firstly, driving while intoxicated is illegal. It shows the rising problem of substance abuse, and most importantly, driving drunk is deadly. According to "Drinkinganddriving.org" (2008-2013), "900,000 are arrested each year for DUI/DWI and a full 1/3 of those are repeat offenders”. None of us are perfect. If you are driving under the influence of alcohol, the chances of you having a substance abuse problem are very high. Substance abuse, simply put, is losing control of yourself to a substance. If you do not have enough self-control, or common sense, not to get into a vehicle when you have any type of foreign substance in your body, then you have a serious problem. Sure, you may not be waking up at eight in the morning and devouring a bottle of gin, but you are not only putting yourself in danger, but also others. With the amount of people in the United states that have problems with alcohol, and the amount of DUI’s that are given, the correlation between the numbers is not at all surprising. “Alcohol is the number one drug problem in America. There are more than 12 million alcoholics in the U.S. Three-fourths of all adults drink alcohol, and 6% of them are alcoholics. Americans spend $197 million each day on alcohol. In the United States, a person is killed in an alcohol-related car accident every 30 minutes. A 2000 study found nearly 7 million persons age 12 to 20 were binge drinkers.
