When you see someone getting bullied what do you do? According to dosomething.org, most people are bystanders and there are more than 8,000 + cases of people being victims of bullying each and everyday. That's 3.2 million people each year and not enough is being done about it. Whether it’s cyber, physical, or verbal there are always bystanders of some sort thinking if they step in they will be persecuted also. Bullying has become normal in today’s world. As you hear, “kids will be kids and life will go on.” But that’s not the case. Bullying happens around us and we don’t even realize it. Bullying has become more fatal leading to self injury, depression, and even suicidal events. There is not enough being done trying to terminate this problem and there needs to be more done. Teachers, students, adults, etc. are the only people who can put an end to this, and maybe by stepping in to stop the action could prevent one of those 8,000 cases and begin to make a change to the world. There needs to be more consequences faced with this problem because the government is not partaking enough in this problem, suicides are happening too frequently, and laws need to be made.
To begin with, the government is one of the biggest problems in these cases. Bullying is not faced with consequences that it should have at all. Yes, the government has tried making strategies like “bullying is out. It’s time to stand up!” which involves a movement to end bullying in four categories, mobilization,
Bullying has become a worldwide issue that has evolved over the years. Some people may argue that bullying has decreased as more people are aware and educated about the effects of bullying. Although people are more educated about bullying, it has only increased over the years. Today, every seven seconds someone is being bullied. Every seven seconds a life is ruined. It is horrendous. Bullying rates have gone through the roof over the years and only makes life for teenagers harder now. 1 in 10 people drop out of school because repeated bullying. 1 in 10 lives ruined. 1 in 10 further education opportunities destroyed. Our current society is doing appalling when it comes to bullying.
Imagine that people of all ages are being harassed just because of not only their sexuality, but their identity. LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. Individuals that are apart of this organization are bullied at work, school and even everyday life. Some dislike the LGBTQ because it goes against their religion so they choose to be mean.People bully, harass, and violate LGBTQ human rights because they don’t agree with who they are. Bullying LGBTQ is wrong because no one should be subjected to cruel treatment.
To begin with, bullying happens all around you and yet barely anything is being done about it. No one will stand up or speak up either until its too late or not at all. The laws don’t help enough. The law we have in Florida is the Jeffrey Johnston Stand Up For All Students act. That act states that anyone in the school- students and teachers/ staff member, that is subjected to bullying,
In a study taken by the American Medical Association it was reported that over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Out of these 3.2 million they found that approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day and 1 in 10 students drop out to school to escape from repeatedly being bullied. Reading these statistics, you can almost hear them call for someone to step up against this horrid and harassing act known as bullying. However, in a room full of bystanders, not one voice has the courage to stand up and intervene when someone is being bullied. As parents, the main goal to have should be obtaining every bit of information you can on what is happening in the lives of your child and teach them how they are capable of turning things around and stepping up against bullying by becoming an upstander.
Bullying occurs at a young age and it is mostly dealt at school or on the bus. Many people hear horrific stories about students being bullied and what comes to their mind is why no one stand up for them or why no one did anything to help them. The major question is why that student did not speak up and tell an adult about the bully bothering them. The answer is simple, those who are victims of bullying are consumed by fear. When they do seek help, they are ignored and they have to face all of this on their own.
In the United States and all over the world people get bullied every day at school. As a result, this motivates people to try an stop bullying. Countries have made laws to keep kids in school and out of school, safe from bullying, and some schools have rules to deal with bullying. Furthermore, bullying can have many other major impacts on bullies, victims, and witness of bullying. For example it can have an impact on mental health, and it can lead to suicide.
Bullying is one of the hardest thing to work on and prevent in today’s world. In school there are about 28 percent of kids that are getting bullied. The ages are between 12-18 year old kids “(According to American society for the positive care of children). The bully’s pick on people that are smaller than them and cannot fight back. Bullying can be hard to prevent in todays would but with the right help and effective intervention and solutions that can be stopped. “Those who bully and harass stand in the way of learning and threaten the safety of our children” (preface to “What laws will best prevent cyber-crime”). The whole point in going to school is to learn not to be fighting with the other kids. Because bullying is caused by todays increased
Bullying has been a major issue/concern for kids not only in America, but worldwide. Approximately 9% of all suicide deaths are committed by children that have been/are being bullied. Unfortunately, 1 out of 7 children in the U.S.A are bullies or are being bullied. The whole world needs to take a stand, and stop bullying. Everyone can do at least something to stop bullying. And what are some methods?
Bullying has been a problem for schools for a long time and has continued to be so. It has increased dramatically, taking everything that happens at school and moving it to the Internet. Pre-teens and teens are the most likely victims because they do not fit in a certain group or the bully just wants to show them that they are better than anyone else. While, the school focuses on only the academic part of the students and not the social, they cause students to build barriers between everyone in order to keep their problems to themselves. Bullying can range anywhere from verbal insults to physical abuse which can include pushing, shoving or even hitting. The verbal insults include name-calling, teasing or using derogatory words. Bullying can also be emotional which may include ignoring the friend or leaving and not including in group activities. It also exists over the social media, face-book, and even at the mobile texts. There might be people who believe bullies are not dangerous because they see it as a game that kids play in order to get attention, with no intention of harming anyone. They might as well believe that every children passes through the stage of “bullying” in order to become what one day they will be. But what happens to those students who are physically abuse at school and that give the report to the school but instead of helping, they ignore the situation and move on from them? Those students are the ones we must consider helping because they are pleading
As students walk through the halls of their school, they deserve the right to a comfortable and safe environment. Bullying effects millions of students in schools each year. This can lead to heartbreaking consequences to the victim and their families. Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers College, took his own life by jumping off the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River in New York City, after two of his fellow classmen allegedly streamed live video on the internet of him and another fellow student, who was male, in a sexual encounter (Billiterri, “Preventing Bullying” 1015). This type of cyber-harassment is degrading at its lowest level. Today people believe that they can hide behind the anonymity of the
Back in the past many have focused on drug and alcohol use in school students along with students carrying weapons to schools, and it seemed as if no one was recognizing the significance of school bullying. For victims of bullying, they go to school every day facing harassment, taunting, and humiliation. Kids today come home and kill themselves or never want to go back to school because of BULLYING. “Studies show that 25-35% of teens encountered some type of bullying in their lifetime (Nansel et al,).” Bullying is a form of violent behavior that happens not only in the schools but everywhere. Kids everywhere have been exposed to bullying in school for generations and ages . Although bullying has always been a factor the consequences for
What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school each day because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for far too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve, which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. Students who bully should be suspended from school.
Bullying has been escalating to a certain degree that it has affected as many as 160,000 students that reported staying home from school every day, because they were afraid of being bullied (www.stompoutbullying.org). Bullying does not only stops one from wanting to go to school, it also makes one feel anxious, insecure, and unhappy at school, isolated and at times severely depressed (Young, Shin Kim, and Leventhal). Schools must have better resources available to students; this includes the victim and the bully. The victim should have both better counseling and stricter laws to protect them. Bullies also need counseling due to research which states “that many bullies tend to come from families where parents are more
“Bullying is the intentional harm-doing or harassment that is directed toward vulnerable targets and is typically repeated.” (“Bullying”) “49% of children in grades 4-12 reported being bullied by other students at school. ” (“Facts about Bullying”) Bullying comes in many forms such as cyber-bullying, verbal bullying, mental bullying, sexual bullying, and many more. (“Dealing with Bullying.”) There are many effects that occur because of bullying that are extremely sad and at times dangerous for the victim. There is also, most likely something going on with the suspect of the bullying and we need to talk to and help them both through their difficult times. Children being bullied experience many different feelings, such as feeling depressed, anxious, lonely, and insecure. Children that are being tyrannized many times feel scared to do simple every day things such as sleep, eat, go to school or outside of their homes, and in some conditions even outside of their own bedroom. Victims of bullying may also experience loneliness and fear of being left out or made fun of at school. Some children even suffer from severe depression. This depression may mean they don’t want to get out of bed, eat, or sometimes they may even want to kill themselves, or feel excited about hurting themselves in ways such as cutting. (“Dealing with Bullying”) Children being harassed need as much love and support as they can get. Children being tormented usually have very low self-esteem because of the way they are being treated and the things they have been told. They may need to vent sometimes and that’s okay. Just lend a listening ear and allow them to talk. Love them for who they are and embrace who they are because all they are looking for is acceptance.
Bullying has become a very hot topic in schools and on social media. There is a chant kids say “sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This is totally false. In truth, words can kill. Bullying is a fact of modern society; it can cause psychological effects and in most cases result in self-harm. I believe preventative measures to reduce bullying in schools and social media should be taken.
