School! How do you see the school? How do other people see the school? Should school still exist or continue? Should they radically change? Should teachers get paid more? Should they teach more? Make it easier to go to college? What do you think your school should change? What should they add or take away? There are so many questions. There's a lot of opinions and disagreements. What do I think about school? Some people say we shouldn't have school. Hi I'm a fellow student, that's in the 9th grade and these are my opinion about school. In my opinion, school is preparing us for jobs and more. We are in school for a good 8 hours, most likely we be working 8 hours or more doing jobs. People think they can learn on their own. So you telling me you can learn other languages, chemistry/biology, mathematics, and etc. I think not! School helps us out a lot if you really look at it. By teaching us step by step. Focusing on our main problem. School is starting a radical change. As the years go by schools are changing (radically). I honestly like looking through the books instead of looking online. Reading and writing is the right way, the old fashion way. Don't get me wrong online is a good use too. I would like to stay between really. Read and write, I feel like I learn a lot better that way and memorized it a lot more. Online is a good way of visualizing it. Teacher should get paid more. You would disagree with this, but do you know why? Teachers goes through a lot with students, parents, and even other teachers. I can just look into a teacher's eye and tell their tired of it or stressed out. Students are a pain in the butt. Some students are difficult to handle. Let's take a minute, let's say this teacher has 7 different classes a day. Let's say the largest is 15-27 students. The teacher has a bad and good students. The bad students have been acting up lately and their influence the good students to act a fool. Now the class is a racket. Just imagine you going through that every day. That's's stressful and tiring. You may say principal or call their parents. Come on now that don't always work. You never know how the parents going to act or say back in response. Teachers should get paid way more than what they make
Everybody knows that schools, just like society, have different hierarchies. These hierarchies are money-centered and have different levels of snobbery. Most parents want to send their child to the best school in the community. This want increases the number of families that move into the area or community that the school is located. Parents will provide any amount of money to give their children a good primary education. Schools often receive their funding through how many students are enrolled. Therefore, the bigger the school, the more funding the school obtains. Also, when people with the same average income or community interest accumulate in the same area they make up what kind of school will be present in the community. The financial statuses of schools can be sorted into 3 categories: High Priced and High Privileged, Hell Bent Broke, and Just Rights.
Teachers shape the minds of students to realize what their purpose is in life. Lately, because of certain educational reforms, it has been hard for teachers to say what they need to say. “In 40-plus states, the math and English guidelines determine the knowledge students have to master by the end of each grade, what they’ll be tested on this year, and in many cases, how teachers and principals will be rated at their jobs once those test scores are released” (Strauss). Most educational reforms are adopting standardized testing and should be reconsidered. Statistics even show that since we have taken part in reforms like No Child Left Behind, Race to the Top, and Common Core State Standards math and reading are declining. These standards tell teachers what to teach and what the students should know by the end of the school year. The reforms also evaluate teacher performance by how well the students learn the information. Some people believe educational reforms should not be telling teachers how to teach their students, and others believe that the reforms are absolutely fine the way they are. However the truth is educational reforms are yet to be perfected.
Teachers should be paid more because “They work outside of the classroom” (Snyder). They have to work on lesson plans, grade their assignment, tests, and quizzes (Snyder). In 5 Reasons Why Teachers Need To Get Paid More, it says, “If you take into account the average teacher’s salary and the hours they spend at work, they could probably make more money being an hourly wage employee.” (Snyder). They should be getting paid more because they do not get paid enough with how much they do outside of work to be able to do what they do in the classroom. Teachers work very hard for what they do and to get everything done.
School funding is a mix of different funding sources like federal, state, and local. About ninety percent of funding for education comes from state and local community. K-12 education has failed to keep up with high enrollment. Schools must spend to counter effects of poverty while many European countries alleviate these conditions through government spending. Currently more than forty percent of low income school get an extremely unfair share of state and local funds. Low income school are receiving inadequate funds for their school, whereas other schools in the United States are unfairly distributing their state and local funds. That is unfair to the low income schools because those schools really need the money for school books, field trips, etc. Funding for public schools has been quite unequal for years, but even though Americans are fully aware of this issue no one does anything to solve it. Researchers are trying to show them both sides of this unequal funding issue in public schools in order to help balance the distribution of educational funding.
Imagine a school year that gave the students one week off after every quarter and every Friday off. Does this sound exciting and rich with possibilities? Then ask the superintendent of the school district to consider year round school with only four days per week.First, students would not forget what they learned over the long summer. Next, parents would not have to get day care except on Fridays instead of the whole summer. Finally, teachers and students would have better relationships as they spend more time together instead of being rushed. Let’s take a look at some proof.
We need to start appreciating how much time and effort our teachers put forward into our education. They don’t have to waist their lives on the students, but they do it anyways. Why do they have to work so hard off of hours and not get paid for it when others get praised for it? Nobody can understand what a teacher goes through unless it is a teacher themselves. Teachers not only deserve a raise they deserve more respect. Now of days people are starting to give less respect to teachers more and more. Teachers will keep doing what they are doing, but not getting the pay they deserve for the hours they put in during and out off work is not right. Give teachers the pay they deserve or we will see a decline of teachers in our
For most people they don't like school. People look towards those nice long summer breaks. however a lot of things happen over the summer, the main thing that happens is that students tend to forget everything they learned during the previous school year. By the end of the the first month of summer, all that knowledge has leaked out of the brain. Then when the students return in the fall, the first month of school is wasted by re-teaching students what they should have already learned last year. It would be beneficial for students if every school went to year round school
Not many things in life stay the say anymore. You can expect one thing to happen but then all of a sudden its turns out totally different. There is a quote that kind of speaks to me from a movie called forest Gump “life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get”. It’s so true but we as humans, we adapt we take on these changes and we adapt to them. I’m going tell you about a big change for me about seven years ago the move that changed many things for me.
Have you ever really pondered the way schooling is done today? Have you ever wondered if it is really the best fit? Some experts say that a all year round schooling calendar would be more beneficial to students. Paul Von Hippel, a researcher and sociologist of ohio state University, says “Students have a better tendency to remember material because of short breaks.” While other people believe that summer vacation is an american tradition and shouldn’t be changed. If I could plan my ideal school, I would create an all year round calendar, teach specified subjects, and begin the school day later. Summer break dates back to the 1800s(Pearson, 2010). Now is the time for a change, or is it?
With confidence, the Rolla Public School District is here to not only improving student learning, but to guide students directly. Our responsibility is to provide parent and community involvement so our students can learn effectively. Committing to students is important because they rely on the faculty such as our educators assessing them properly. We believe that our students should deserve high-quality educators because “it is the most important school-related factor influencing student achievement” (Rice, 2003, para.1). Rolla Public School’s allow our students to set goals and our educators help them achieve them by the proper guidance.
The three-month summer vacation block may sound great for planning vacations, but in reality, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. By having one large vacation block, parents have to compete in the workplace to get the appropriate time off and travel is more expensive because everyone else is traveling. Year round schooling offers more breaks and more opportunities for everyone to take a well-deserved vacation
How would you feel if your school district made you go to school year-round instead of getting a summer vacation? Certain educators feel that the summer break we receive now is way too long and students should continue school all year round with occasional breaks throughout the school year. If the year-round school was put into place then students would receive a 3-4 week break in the summer, longer winter break, and a week off in the spring and fall. The school year should remain how it is including a summer vacation instead of year-round school because many students depend on the summer vacation we already have uptain for a variety of reasons: there are many job opportunities that students take during the summer, summer vacation allows students to travel places that are only open in the summer, and students have more time to relax and calm down from all of the stress they received from school.
Many schools are considering switching to year around school schedules. Some people might not understand what this means. ”Students in most American year-round school districts spend the same amount of days in class as students in traditional calendar schools- the days are just arranged differently, with smaller more frequent breaks throughout the year” (McMullen, 2001). Holton should not consider this schedule because it does not improve students learning, year round school would interfere with family vacations, and it makes trying to get a summer job for teens difficult.
Alternative schooling is an educational establishment that has a curriculum or ways of teaching that are non traditional such as a wide range of teaching styles. An alternative school can be either private or even public (i.e. charter, online and magnet schools). Some of these schools aren't offered in some school districts, while some like magnet, charter and online schools are usually completely online. This usually happens if the school district or state that a student is currently living in doesn’t have the proper funding to build an alternative schooling location. Some alternative schools may offer classes at night, which is helpful for students who work. Along with that some of alternative schools have flexible graduation requirements and give students the choice in what classes they want to take apposed to regular schools where you really don't have so much of a say in your classes.
Can you imagine a world in which parents were free to send their children to only the best schools, no matter which neighborhood they lived in? What if cost wasn’t a factor? Imagine if even a student in the poorest section of town had access to the best education. What could that child achieve? What would they become? How would their life change? Those questions that I asked lead now to the focus of the essay. The world we live in is ever so changing, with that the need for education also needs to be changing. No longer do classic public schools fit the job in all certain situations. That is why with school choice being a controversial issue in education reform, school choice public funds should be used to support school choice programs that offer parents alternatives to traditional public schools.
