Animal Experimentation The first documented case of animal experimentation was in 1628, meaning that it has been around for almost four-hundred years. Animal experimentation is a disgusting form of torturing poor, helpless creatures, just for science. Over one-hundred million animals are killed every year due to animal experimentation. Although animal experimentation has been around for a very long time, it is time to make a better future for these poor creatures. Animals should not be used for any type of experimentation. It affects the creature mentally, physically, and internally. Also the alternatives for animal experimentation are endless, and many animals die unjustified. Experiments on animals affect the creature mentally, physically, …show more content…
Many people agree with the statement, mainly because they think the animals in labs are treated humanely, and this is completely false. (ProCon.org) People tend to believe animals are treated fairly in labs, only because they don't know the truth behind what is actually going on. Most people are unaware that many lab animals never get to see the sun, have fresh air, and they are constantly in small, crowded cages. Jane Goodall, a British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace, states “In no lab I have visited have I seen so many chimps exhibit such intense fear. The screaming I heard when chimps were brutally forced to move towards the dreaded needle in their squeezed cages was, for me, absolutely horrifying,” after seeing inside a chimpanzee lab (Neaus). Animal labs are the farthest thing from humane. Another factor to people being okay with animal experimentation is because most of their daily supplies come from the experiments. Some commonly used items are cosmetics, drugs, food additives, household products, pesticides, and industrial chemicals (Murnaghan). Little do they know that many of those same items can be created without using animals in the process, but the manufactures choose to use them. If people knew what actually happened in animal labs, they would immediately change the way they think about animal
Over the past few decades, animals have been enduring unimaginable pain and fear due to being used to test the everyday products we use. And as unfortunate as it sounds, animals simply do not have the choice in these cruel experiments scientist put them through. According to data collected by F. Barbara Orlans for her book, In the Name of Science: Issues in Responsible Animal Experimentation, “sixty percent of all animals used in testing are used in biomedical research and product-safety testing” (Orlans There will always be different points of views on this troubling topic, some may be against it because they see animals as their companions or some may support it because they only see animals as objects to move forward with science and experimental
Animal testing should not be used in cosmetic industries as a source of experimentation because it is unethical and inefficient. It is a cruel way of trying to find results that are not even always trustworthy. Everyone has a different reaction to different chemicals so why even bother animals for testing? Also different species can respond differently when exposed to the same chemical so animal testing can be inefficient. The results from animal tests can be quite variable and difficult to interpret therefore it may not be applicable to human beings. Thus, consumer safety still cannot be guaranteed even after these gruesome tests which are totally unethical. It is also unethical to torture and end the lives of these animals each year for our own luxury. Everyday cosmetic industries are using defenseless animals very cruelly just to carry out some most often useless tests. Instead they should use other alternatives which has been proved to yield better and accurate results than tests involving animals.
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” (Mahatma Gandhi). Scientists have been using animals for biomedical research for centuries. They provide a source to get information scientists can not get without harming humans. A lot of debate is spread about whether it is good or bad. Animal experimentation is a controversial topic because it is helpful to humans, but it is also cruel and inhumane.
For many years, animal testing has been very widely accepted in the world for the
This makes animal experimentation suspicious. Some of the procedures done to animals are terrible and may make you uncomfortable but they are the following, cats getting holes drilled into their heads, sheep and pigs have their skin burnt off, rats have their spinal cords crushed, baby mice are tortured to grow malignant tumors the size of their body, kittens are blinded, and dogs are poisoned. These are just some of the procedures done on animals but there are many more. Did you know that more animals are killed than humans each year. These include the animals tested on, not the animals that die in captivity or in zoos.
Imagine being locked up in a cage having chemicals rubbed, injected and force fed into you. Over 1,000,000,000 animals per year suffer rashes, cuts, burns, infections, loneliness and even death. This is due to animal cruelty or testing. It should be illegal to test on animals. You should be able to adopt an animal after the lab is thru with it.
For centuries humans have dedicated their time and research to animal experimentation. A large number of these animals are being utilized and taken from their homes involuntarily. They are abused, mishandled and harmed for our own benefit to create products such as cosmetic supplies, vaccines, and medication.
Every year, a total of one million children die from pneumonia. If you multiply that number by one hundred, you will have the number of animals that suffer painful deaths due to medical experimentation in U.S. laboratories each year. This number includes animals of all types, from mice and rats to fish and birds. These animals are typically used because of tradition rather than actual scientific reasoning, making their deaths all the more cruel. Animal experimentation is not only unethical, but ineffective and expensive. It should be phased out and replaced with technological alternatives.
Animal experimentation has been a commonly debated subject for many years, is it cruelty or science? Millions of animals die each year from animal testing. This is because of harsh ways animals are treated like by their experimenters. Animals should be free of the cruelty scientists expose them to. They have just as much sentient as humans do. Millions of animals a year are subject to being imprisoned and having terrible procedures done.
100 million is the estimated number of animals that are killed or harmed every year by humans in the name of research. These animals are bred for testing. Animals in labs live very stressful and unnatural lives in confinement. We are biologically similar to those animals tested. While some people believe that is fine to do animal testing the truth is that it's not okay to test on animals because of the painful protocols they put animals through, the daily lives they live can kill them, More than 100 million animals are killed every year. Women have been wearing makeup and other cosmetic products since the beginning of time. Egyptians back in 10,000 BCE used makeup for definition and to add color to their face. Makeup back then was a thing of science, Ancient Egyptians used ingredients like different oils and minerals to make themselves look beautiful. Today, the makeup and cosmetic industry has grown larger than life. Scientists have had to develop new technologies to test a variety of new products. To make sure testing is successful, scientists test their products on animals to make sure they are safe for humans. Before the 20th century, there wasn’t any testing of cosmetic products and the women before still remained beautiful and found ways to enhance their beauty. Also, companies today have found many ways to create new products without the use of animal testing. The the modern day
There exists a society that routinely tortured animals by immobilizing them, pouring chemicals into their eyes and on their skin, and causing them unbearable suffering followed by a prolonged and painful death for the purpose of making its cheeks a little rosier or lips slightly plumper each day. This is the reality of the United States and hundreds of other countries that employ the method of testing on animals in order to prove safety of cosmetics. According to Karyn Siegel-Maier, “The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C) defines a cosmetic as any product that is applied to the human body to moisturize, cleanse or in some way enhance or alter appearance,” meaning humans constantly
Testing on animals has been a common thing since ancient times of Aristotle or even before that. Testing in the 19th century was the peak of animal testing and it became more of an issue to the animal rights enthusiast. Testing on animals for cosmetics has been done for a long time in order to protect people from receiving an allergic reaction that can be permanently damaging. All though people might think it’s a good idea to test on animals. Animals don’t react the same way we do, our body anatomy is not similar so why put our trust into something that’s so outdated.
Just in the United States, “there are about 26 million different species, from dogs to birds, being used every year for medical and science related testing” (“Animals in Science / Research”). Throughout the process of testing, “monkeys are addicted to drugs, cats are deafened and have holes drilled into their skulls, sheep and pigs have their skin burned off, and rats have their spinal cords crushed” (“Animals in Medical Experiments”). As a result, animals face cruel conditions and have no way of fighting back. Although medical testings on animals may cure the deadliest diseases such as cancer and tuberculosis, the abuse and mistreatment these animals face while testing medicines should be deemed inhumane, and such practices should be banned in the United States.
Observation and experimentation are how we as humans have been able to learn more about ourselves and the world and universe we live in. One of the most common methods of experimentation is animal testing. However, there are controversies surrounding animal testing. There are some that believe animal testing to be cruel and overdone, advocating for the eradication of the practice and further reliance alternative research methods. Groups like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and other animal rights advocates fall in this category. There are some that believe animal testing to be an invaluable resource and should continue, such as some scientists and research groups. However, there appears to me to be a consensus that is closer to the middle: the belief and understanding that while there are benefits to animal testing, there are flaws in the practice and there should be changes to increase its efficacy while we simultaneously explore alternate testing methods. Many scientists and the National Institute of Health (NIH) subscribe to this idea. I aim to explore the benefits, problems, and implications of animal testing in order to reach a more informed conclusion about a position that is most validated by the information I have used.
