I often get asked by friends why I run cross country. They wonder why I think running is fun and how I can run so far. Although there are days I often ask myself why I run cross country, the answer is simple, it is fun and we are all crazy for joining a sport that is other sports punishments. Cross country is an amazing sport that doesn’t get enough recognition. Even if there are days where I hate practice because of a workout or don’t do well in a race, at the end of the day I still get support from the team no matter what happens. During the season, from the middle of August to the end of October, it goes so quickly and there are so many aspects that make this sport actually enjoyable. Running with teammates makes the sport easier and makes practice fun because during casual runs everyone is talking and having a good time. When I run with teammates, it's a sense of relief because I lose that feeling of sadness, anger, really any emotion I have felt throughout the day. It disappears during practice because I just get to run and have a good time and forget about everything good or bad that happened that day. Even during workouts the team is there for each other. As a team, we help push each other because we want to see each other run hard and get that personal record each teammate has been striving for all season at the next race. We run for fun, the personal records, the adrenaline rush, the runner's high, and most of all we run because it makes us lose sense of time as a team. The butterflies in the stomach standing at the start line waiting for the official to pull the trigger on the starting gun is a feeling like no other! The adrenaline starting to pump when the gun goes off and sprinting out and try to get in a good position is so captivating. The same feeling comes back when the view of the finishing chute comes into sight after
