Is it Australia day or invasion day? Aboriginals had settled in Australia and it became their country and their home. On 26th of January 1788, the Aboriginals got invaded by Captain James Cook and his British people. They were forced to work as slaves. I believe that Australia day should be changed to a different date, so we can respect the Aboriginals but still celebrate our nation. It should be changed as, Aboriginals find it offensive that people celebrate a day that caused so much pain to themselves, there are so many more suitable dates that we can change the date to and many citizens of Australia feel like they can not come together and celebrate all the success of our country on the current date.
Initially, aboriginals find it rude that people celebrate unity on the day that they got invaded. 26th was actually the day that the Aboriginals got invaded by Captain James Cook and when they got caused misery and hurt. They find it very offensive that people enjoy a day that caused such hurt to them and their ancestors. This happened as Captain James Cook set out to find a new land. Some people think we should celebrate 26th of January as Australia Day because that was the day that Australia was found. I disagree and think that this was the day Australia was invaded. Aboriginals don’t mind getting 26th January

On the 1st of January Australia became an independent nation when all the six colonies of Australia were allowed, by the British Parliament, to govern in their own right as part of the Commonwealth of Australia. On the 1st of January 1901 Australia went from being six separate colonies to one nation. This is known as federation. All six colonies agreed to become a nation. If we were to change the date of Australia Day I think that 1st of January would be a perfect date. We would be able to celebrate our nation and feel happier
On the 1st of January was the official date when the existence of the Commonwealth of Australia occurred when the six colonies no longer were independent but states and united as one country.
The arrival of Arthur Phillip’s first fleet in 1778 and the following arrivals of convicts and free settlers during the nineteenth century has been known as ‘the settlement of Australia’ a term believed to be a racial and cultural bias. Due to our history being dominated by the white man, and the influence of the concept of ‘terra nullius’, we are brought up to believe, from a European point of view, that the settlement was peaceful, and lawfully correct. However, being recorded as the first nation genocide, the word invasion best suits this colonization. In 2017 this argument is still debated, as protest and outcries attempt to force Australia to change its national day from the 26th of January to another date, as many indigenous

Federation Essay “How did the Federation positively affected Australia?” Australia became an independent nation on the 1st of January, 1901. This occurred as the British Parliament passed legislation stating that the six colonies of Australia could govern and become the Commonwealth of Australia. On June 3rd 1992 The Mabo decision changed lives of Aboriginals all around Australia. It was the first time that Aboriginals where acknowledged as the traditional owners of the land, and their customs and traditions recognised. It also made improvement between the relationship of Aboriginals and Non-aboriginal people. The Mabo decision also led to the declaration of the Native Title Act in 1993. On the 26th of January 1788, Australia was settled by the British who came in the First Fleet. The First Fleet was made up of 11 ships, holding 1,350 convicts, soldiers and settlers. Australia became the new penal colony as prisons were overflowing in Britain due to America’s Independence and refusal to take more convicts. Recently, there has been much debate over whether this colonisation of Australia was an invasion or settlement. An invasion is an unwelcome intrusion into another’s domain. Whereas a settlement is the process of establishing a settlement or settlements. Clearly, when considering these definitions, it can be seen that the colonisation of Australia was intended to be a peaceful settlement, but soon turned
(done) Argument 1: dispossession and trauma for indigenous people Both indigenous and non-indigenous Australian’s feel that they cannot celebrate Australia Day, because the date marks the commencement of a long history of dispossession and trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Imagine how you would feel if you and your family welcomed strangers into your home but they never left. In fact, even after being kind and gentle towards them, they took control of your home and made you move far away? What if they abused you physically, sexually and financially, and spread epidemic disease throughout your community, all things that you had never once experienced? Can you imagine how this would affect your children and grandchildren’s view of
Australia day a day that marks a horrific anniversary for Indigenous Australian’s it is commonly known as Invasion day. Invasion day is the day that everything changed no longer were the indigenous people to live in peaceful family groups. Their peace and harmony was to be destroyed by European ideals. There are many reasons why Australia day should be changed to a day that represents Australia more. The 26th of January is the day of the first fleet, but it was too the day that the intrusion begun. This day is seen by a few individuals as the ‘day of mourning’. This is because this day is when the first nation people had ‘lost’ their land, alongside being persecuted by the settlers and numerous other issues that go with it.
Australia day is a very controversial day, Australia day is a day where friends and families can come together and celebrate one of the greatest countries in the world, it is a day of celebration and a day of peace, well that’s what is supposed to mean anyway. Australia day is meant to be for everyone, every race every and gender is supposed to love Australia day but only recently indigenous people fear the day of Australia day, they feel disfranchised about it and they feel no one knows the real historical significance of Australia. In 1788 the Europeans took over Australia, at first when the English came to this land they called it “Terra nullius “which translate to no man’s land. The aboriginals called the English their friends and they even danced together.

200 years is enough time to forgive. Wake up, everyone! We know the British came and stole Aboriginal landing, that was a huge crime but now our war ended, we live in our country named Australia and we are Australians, Australia Day is one of our tradition, Aboriginal’s failure won’t change despite we change the day. I am Lake, a Aborigine living and contributing for Australia and I will sorry to Melbourne citizens, especially who want to change the day that i honestly disagree.

World War 1 (1914-1918) was the first official war that Australians took part in, only thirteen years after federating as a country in 1901. During this time, thousands of lives were lost, families were torn apart, and friends were never seen again. April 25th became the national day to commemorate the ANZAC soldiers who had served overseas. Even now, 100 years later, people still remember those who sacrificed themselves for Australia, those who fought and fell in many battles to protect the country they lived in. The Gallipoli Campaign is the most famous battle of World War 1, the battle that every Australian household knows about. However, other battles such as the ones on the
