The recent abortion rights debate in the United States has once again sparked discussions around Roe v Wade, a 1973 court decision that rendered abortion legal nationwide. The possibility of overturning Roe under the Trump Administration has led media sources to revisit the effects of the case on state laws. Accurate coverage of this issue is fundamental to succeeding to spread awareness about the impact of lack of access to abortion. Financial difficulties and life planning are correlated making the right to terminate a pregnancy paramount to preventing further economic vulnerability. By making abortion legal nationwide, Roe had a dramatic impact on the health and well being of women in the United States, significantly lowering death rates from dangerous abortion procedures. The World Health Organization defines unsafe abortions as a procedure for terminating a pregnancy that is performed by an individual lacking the necessary skills, or in an environment that does not conform to minimal medical standards, or both. The Economist article entitled Anti-Abortion Protesters Hope for Change under Donald Trump fails to examine both sides of the ongoing debate, focusing solely on the pro-life arguments.
