Many people don’t believe think anything of what they eat or how it got there. But the harsh truth is the meat that you eat was once a living, breathing creature that had feeling and emotions. Maybe next time you order a steak or chicken nuggets you should think about the animals that went through extreme pain and conditions for you to eat. Not only is it inhumane to put animals through such pain, not eating meat and having a vegetarian lifestyle can have huge benefits to animals, the environment, and your health.
Can you imagine going through the pain that animals in slaughterhouses went through? Most people don’t think of that part of it but the real fact is that billions of animals went through a painful life to be killed for food every year. Most people like to keep the thought in there heads that these animals live on beautiful green farms where they are treated great and then have a very peaceful death, and never feel any or little pain. Well that is not the case, these animals are treated very unfairly. The animals in slaughterhouses are given a massive amount of antibiotics, hormones, and drugs to keep them alive in conditions that are so bad they would otherwise kill them.
Cows are naturally very gentle and calm creatures. These smart and sweet natured animals have been known to go to great lengths to escape slaughterhouses. More than forty-one million of these sensitive animals suffer and die a painful death each year in the United States.
The vegetarian diet has many advantages and disadvantages for many. Not eating red meat or white meat could represent a loss of protein and iron that could cause (in extreme cases) health problems such as malnutrition, anemia and weaken the immune system. However, a balanced vegetarian diet (that is, not only cheeses, cereals and the occasional fruit or vegetable) offers many advantages, for example a much lower consumption of saturated fats (which are found in red meat), more fiber and could be cheaper.
It's simple, you can harvest some of your own food from your home, but you can not raise livestock and have your own slaughterhouse. In a similar way you can make your own almond milk, soy milk or amaranth milk from your home using utensils and appliances that
The conditions for animals in modern slaughterhouses are unsanitary and violent. The lack of rules and regulations cause animals to be treated poorly because this industry is focused on mass production and profit rather than finding a more humane alternative to run the meat packing business. The most effective method to stop this cruelty is to learn about where meat comes from, start supporting the organic and family farms which will ultimately lead to the reducing the amount of animals that have to suffer.
Many people who think that the way that we treat animals in the process of raising those for human consumption are wrong never stop, to think what they can do to stop this problem from further occurring. Furthermore, they make impassioned calls for more “humanely” raised meat. Instead to soothe their consciences they shop for “free range” meat, and eggs; which has no importance. Even if an animal is raised ‘free range” it still lives s life of pain and suffering that all ends with a butcher’s knife. Although many know that over 53 billion land animals are slaughtered each year for human utilization they still tend to eat this meat with no problem. The simple explanation is that many don’t care what happens to animals as long as they are eating and healthy. If they did care then they would what could be a difficult choice; to go without eating meat and selling it in any form.
As you open your mouth to take a bite out of a juicy hamburger topped with bacon, do you ever wonder what you’re actually eating? I used to not care about what happened to the animals that provided my food, just as long as I had food. It is very rare that we really know what happens to the animals as they are becoming our food. The cow and pig you are about to eat had suffered a great amount of inhumanity before being slaughtered. Animals that are living on slaughterhouse farms have been abused and mistreated in many ways. It is highly unnecessary for us to mistreat animals when they’re providing food for us.
Slaughterhouses are a cruel, inhumane, and downright disgusting industry and workplace. Everyday, cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs, and more are violently put to death. America is the second most involved country in meatpacking (Meatpacking 1), which results to extreme amounts of deaths on a daily basis. Slaughterhouses and the consumption of meat is an unfair and unsanitary process and habit. Even when standards and regulations are set in place, slaughterhouses still have been known to completely disregard and ignore them.
In the article “The Treatment Of Animals In Factory Farms” it is said that every two days in america 40 million animals are killed in slaughterhouses, but the sad thing is, is that the majority of these animals lived their short lives trapped in small dark cages or confined so close together that they can not move. Chickens are bred so fast that many of them can not stand because they can not support their own weight. Calfs are trapped in tiny cages where the can not even turn around in hopes that they become tender for veal. These major corporations owners are co concerned how to get money the easiest way and they have no sympathy for these poor suffering animals.“The Treatment Of Animals In Factory Farms” says that factory farms have no redeeming features, and that it is not necessary to feed the growing population. “Raising animals on grain remains wasteful. Far from increasing the total amount of food available for human consumption, it reduces it”. These big factory farms exploit animals and treat them as objects when really these animals have personalities, compassion, and
An estimated fifty-six billion animals are slaughtered every year just for human consumption. The consumption of these animals is now redundant and wasteful because meat and dairy products are not necessary for the majority of human’s survival. Humans should stop eating animals and animal by-products because it is morally wrong, this is due to the fact that many of the animals humans consume can feel pain. Humans should stop eating other animals if it is not essential for their survival. In addition, the conditions that animals are subjected to in farms and slaughterhouses are harsh. Moreover, the amount of grain that is required to feed farmed animals is high and can be used to feed humans instead of animals that will inevitably be killed
Did you know that 56 billion animals are slaughtered each year? People believe that farmers are abusing and causing stress on the animals. Farmers use confined feeding operations to maximize the production. By having the confined feeding operations, it gives the animals no room to graze. When they can’t graze, it restricts the animal to move or to exercise (“On The Farm”). The animals are not given any pain relief during certain practices like castration or dehorning. Animal welfare is not needed in the farming aspect, because the animals are meant for food.
Another way farmers make a living off of raising cows is selling them to be processed, where their meat is shipped to grocery stores nation wide to be sold.
There is a large problem of animal cruelty linked to the food industry in the United States. Countless slaughterhouses, chicken farms, and other meat producers have been found guilty of harming animals and killing them inhumanely. This is something that clearly needs to change.
Every year about 56 billion animals in the United States are massacred by humans. These innocent animals are slaughtered for our taste enjoyment and fashion. Pigs, cows, and chickens are being treated inadequate living conditions slaughterhouses. Instead of animals, they are treated like property and objects. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals exclaims, “On today’s factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and stuffed into wire cages, metal crates, and other torturous devices. These animals will never raise their families, root around in the soil, build nests, or do anything that is natural and important to them. The employs are not responsible with the animals.” Famous brands, like Tyson spend such little money on what the animals are raised in that tons of the animals die before they make it to their slaughter day. These innocent animals do not see the sun’s warm rays and get fresh air until they’re on their way to the slaughterhouses. Animals in slaughterhouses should be treated more humanely.
It is said if slaughter houses had a glass window everyone would become vegetarian. Animals are tortured, boiled, electrified and killed to become the everyday meat. In the documentary EARTHLINGS, we can see how the cows, pigs, chicken and “seafood” are bred and butchered to become food. Cows are branded with hot iron rods, dehorned with big pliers and transported to different slaughterhouses that then kill the cows in different procedures. Most of these procedures are not clean and the animal stills feel the pain. Cows which produce milk are tied to a post for entire life and milk with inhumane ways, feeding pesticides and antibiotics to increase the productivity. These cows die earlier than the usual cows. Pigs are also treated the same
While watching Food Inc, I was shocked to see how animals are treated, in order to produce the food the general population eats. Even though, humans have been killing animals for food for many centuries, the way they are treated now is beyond excuse. They should have the ability to enjoy their lives, however, short that might end up being. There is no need to try and rush a product, especially when it affects the quality of the product. As it was mentioned in the film, in the case of the cow, they feed it corn to fatten it quicker. Despite, this helping to make the cows fatter for slaughter, this greatly affects the cow. Not only in the cow’s quality of life, but it also endangers the meat of being contaminated. This contamination is preventable,
Packages of meat, eggs, and dairy are giving false conclusions about where their product comes from. For example, you see on packages the original red wood barn, with the white picket fence surrounding it. Although, the producers just use that image in order to hide the real truth. The truth is that these animals if it is either: pigs, cows, or chickens, they are rarely raised in a true “farm.” They are usually grown in factory farms, which means no room to walk around, poor living conditions, and
One of the major reasons that people are becoming vegans is because they feel morally obligated to reject the slaughtering of animals for personal gain. As an example, JoAnn Farb, an author, microbiologist, and stay at home mother started her herbivorous lifestyle at the age of thirteen when she made the connection between meat and a living animal; she vowed never to eat meat again (Singer 188-189). For most, the idea of eating meat is an ordinary activity that is learned at a young age. One ignores the fact that animals are being mistreated up until their death which at times is not even quick and painless. For instance, in Lawnel Farms sick cows that are no longer able to stand are dragged by a tractor to the slaughterhouse instead of being
With nearly millions of animals dying each year from being captive, or endangered species being hunted down and killed, we need to discover a new way of displaying that our world is full of beautiful animals and wildlife. Wild animals are suffering both physically and mentally from the lack of freedom that confinement imposes. These harmful environments are preventing animals from having the opportunity to live in, and be exposed to their natural habitats. Keeping animals imprisoned in cages and small enclosures just for the sake of human observation causes stress and frustration, which is risking animals overall health and well being. These morally unacceptable and cruel actions of retaining wild animals in captivity is certainly wrong.
