“I have suffered from bullying in many ways, from bullying in school due to my disability in reading, to digital abuse that I deal with on a daily basis. I’d like to tell the kids that are being bullied that no one should have to deal with the abuse, ever” ( quote from Bella Thorne). What is bullying exactly ? Are there different kinds ? Can it be stopped ? Well, there is different types of ways to be bullied-physical, verbal, social, through the Internet and emotionally.
When bullying happens physically, the results are usually visible, like bruises, scratches, broken bones, etc. Unlike orally , where people use words to destroy other’s personalities. In physical bullying, small arguments can turn into full fledged fights that can result with unwanted consequences, like detentions and suspensions in school, to arrest by the police when you’re older, and even worse. In verbal bullying, harsh words that may seem simple can be taken to a whole other level. Saying to people,’ Oh, your stupid’ or ‘Oh, that kid, he’s retarded ‘ can have a really big impact on someone who wasn’t ready for the ‘attack’. It can make people have low self esteem and always say negative things about themselves, like if someone says,’ Oh, don’t worry about me, my life is garbage’ of’ Yea, you don’t have to say that because I already know my life is useless’. People can slap into depression and instead of seeking help, they turn to unnecessary things like drugs and might go to friends that have bad

Most kids say that they don’t see bullying around school. In just Minnesota alone there is talk about bullying and how to prevent it. Sen. Franken states, “Nine out of 10 LGBT kids are harassed or bullied in school. One-third report having skipped school in the last month because they felt unsafe” (Shah 14). Kids should not feel unsafe to go to school. School is supposed to be a safe place to go and if someone needs help there are supposed to be people there to guide them. Franken adds, “But the sad fact is that our federal laws are failing” (Shah 14). Laws have been made to try to stop bullying, but bullying continues to exist. This shows how out of control bullying is becoming.
Bullying has a negative impact on everyone including the bully and the school. For instance, if there’s bullying on a campus and the school does not take action then it reflects back on the school and makes them look bad. “Schools are increasingly sued for failing to provide a safe learning environment and are being held liable for the harassment, violence and suicides caused by bullying,” (Bullying and Statistic information). As for the victim, it affects them mentally and physically, it causes them to change their habits and their personality. They can not defend themselves because they are too scared, low self-esteem, or is just too afraid to tell an adult (Stop Bullying.gov). The bullies are affected because the more damage they do to the victim the more trouble they cause for themselves. Bullying also affects the families of the victim and suspect. For the victim’s family there’s a lot of lies and betrayal. Now for someone to bully it could be because of their family. How a child acts is because of their parents. A student does not choose to bully, they act out on their emotions which causes them to think less and act

Like I have mentioned in the paragraphs above, the effects that bullying has on children especially at school is that they feel insecure, lose interest in school and their schoolwork, they can feel lonely and have anxiety, and a more extreme and severe effect of bullying may result in them committing

As students walk through the halls of their school, they deserve the right to a comfortable and safe environment. Bullying effects millions of students in schools each year. This can lead to heartbreaking consequences to the victim and their families. Tyler Clementi, a freshman at Rutgers College, took his own life by jumping off the George Washington Bridge over the Hudson River in New York City, after two of his fellow classmen allegedly streamed live video on the internet of him and another fellow student, who was male, in a sexual encounter (Billiterri, “Preventing Bullying” 1015). This type of cyber-harassment is degrading at its lowest level. Today people believe that they can hide behind the anonymity of the
What is it that causes students across the world to be unfairly targeted by their fellow classmates? Bullying is an act that is all too common in schools today. Some forms of bullying can range from the “innocent” teasing of a student to the harmful attack that could potentially damage a student’s well-being. School should be a place where a student feels safe and welcome to express their individuality. Instead, students feel insecure and apprehensive to present who they truly are to their fellow classmates. Shaming within schools is unfortunately a common circumstance that can lead to students feeling insecure, whether it be in connection with their appearances, exercise habits and weight differences, or their family’s economic stature.
Bullying does not simply take one form that can easily be seen. It takes many different forms and knows how to hide from those who can stop it. Because there are so many different types of bullying present in society, they have been grouped into three main groups so that they can be more easily discussed. These three different groups are verbal, social (relational), and physical bullying. Each of these are terrible and leave the person being bullied scathed and with emotional and in some cases physical scars. Verbal bullying is defined as “saying or writing mean or nasty things/insults”. Parents and other adults always make comments like “words are just words, they can’t really hurt you”, “sticks and stones make break your bones, but words will never hurt you”, or “take their comments with a grain of sand”. However words do hurt; at some points a mean common can have a worse affect that being punched square in the face. In high school people who bully others straight to their face,
Physical bullying can result in many extreme outcomes. The bully creates dangerous physical harm to their victims and in today society EVERY victim has a breaking point and retaliates in a violent way. Victims of bullying get thoughts of suicide, cutting themselves, low self esteem, and also wanting to become a bully because its happening to them. Unfortunately there are a lot of students and staff today and parents do not feel like their schools are a safe place to go because of the types of bullying that occur.
What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school each day because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for far too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve, which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. Students who bully should be suspended from school.
Bullying has become a very hot topic in schools and on social media. There is a chant kids say “sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” This is totally false. In truth, words can kill. Bullying is a fact of modern society; it can cause psychological effects and in most cases result in self-harm. I believe preventative measures to reduce bullying in schools and social media should be taken.
