Cats are more than just furry friends, if you let them into your heart they become family. I have 19 years of owning plenty of cats, and I currently have four. I love my cats, they honestly are my family. I also have two dogs and they really do need more attention than cats, a lot more. We are all college students, and some of us desire a companion without a ton of commitment. That is where adopting a cat comes into play. Cats even have health benefits to them, they are scientifically proven to reduce stress and sadness, they do not need a ton of attention (although some required and the more the better), and if you are allergic there are even hypoallergenic breeds of cats for you. Losing a friend or family member is truly hard, yet an easy method for coping is to adopt a pet. Felines have been proven to help individuals to get over their misfortune more rapidly, and show less physical indications of pain, such as crying. Despite the fact that they are only animals, cats fill in as a social help through troublesome times. Individuals in grieving report conversing with their pet to work out their feelings, since it is easier to talk with something that won't react and can't judge, such as another person. Another study, conducted by the University of Minnesota in 2008, revealed that owning a cat reduces stress and anxiety, thus bringing down the risk of cardiovascular disease. In fact, the chances of having a heart attack are reduced by 40 percent if you own a cat. Felines

“In the early nineteen-seventies, for instance, the biologist Erika Friedmann, of Brooklyn College, studied how heart-attack patients respond to social support. Patients who had a dog or cat, she found, were more than four times as likely to survive a year after a heart attack than those who didn’t have a pet” (Bilger, part 3, paragraph 21). If the research is done, it is easy to see that humans generally live longer if they own a pet. Caring for a pet can be emotional also. Sharing a living space with another living being will allow you to get attached to them and build relationships you probably had never thought you’d have before. In the article, The Last Meow, it explains how Karen had suffered injuries in an accident and found later that she could not get pregnant. Knowing that she could not start a family and living in pain everyday was taking a toll on her mentally and emotionally. However, when they had started caring for their cats, she found a way to fill her depression. “Karen had studied enough psychology to suspect that her feelings for Lady were party misplaced mothering instincts, but she also knew that relationships like theirs could have a particular intensity” (Bilger, part 3, paragraph 21). Owning the cats made her happy. It is obvious why she would go through debt just to save the
A person is thinking of getting a pet to be his companion and to entertain his kids, but he has encountered a predicament: they choose a mediocre feline or a magnificent canine. While there are many advantages of each option, the dog is a better option for companionship, protection, and loyalty.
Imagine walking in the door after a long day; your furry loving puppy is sprinting towards you so excited to see you after missing you all day. Your puppy is ready to grab your attention and distract you from the terrible day you’ve had, comforting you in the process. Dogs are great pets because of their comforting nature, playfulness and protective tendencies.
Some reasons being that they serve as a social support during difficult times, such as the loss of a loved one. Cats have been shown to help people get over their loss more quickly and relieve physical symptoms of pain, such as crying.
Denver followed the footsteps of California as it implemented an ordinance that bans the declawing of its feline friends, an initiative that has brought joy towards cat owners and veterinarians. In the process, Denver became the first US city outside California to ban the procedure that has caused nothing but pain and stress towards cats, and it was easy for the city to implement the said ban as the council supported the measure in the past weeks. A unanimous vote became the proverbial icing on the cake for the ordinance.
II.Unintentional negligence can be common in ferret care; the following is some basic care information.
The deeper I dig into animal abuse , the more I want to become a vegetarian. But it is not easy as it seems. The things that I have seen and read makes me sick to my stomach. To watch a hopeless cow, get whipped , is sickening. Watching baby Chicklets die in a big machine , brings tears to my eyes. Millions of animals every day die cruel deaths , and I no longer want to be an accomplice to the crimes. While it may be hard to retrain myself , I should and intend to just stop eating meat.
pets can make you happy when you are sad or be with you in the worst times.
Veterinarians not only provide healthcare for cats of all ages, but are often the first stop for a caregiver or concerned citizen needing assistance with community cats. Another example of an infectious disease is feline leukemia which was caused by a retrovirus that enters cells and affects the immune system in cats. There are different variations of symptoms that can show that a feline is infected with FeLV: lymphosarcoma, affected blood cells resulting in nonregenerative anemia and immunosuppression which leaves the feline open to other bacterial infections. It is highly contagious amongst felines through personal contact such as grooming and can be passed from the mother to the offspring while in the womb but is not zoonotic. It also can be spread through blood and so blood being used for transfusions should be tested. Diagnostic testing would be to use a snap test using the cat’s blood. Additional blood tests are also available to test for FeLV. Once diagnosed, depending how affected the cat is, will determine the veterinarian’s course of treatment which is usually medications. Vaccines are used to help prevent the disease but isn’t 100% effective. Before getting the vaccine, the cat should be tested to see if it was vaccine-induced or actually the disease. This is because administration of a vaccine can give a false positive to
CARE South Coast-An all volunteer, no-kill animal shelter in Acushnet, MA. Our physical shelter has cats only, while our dogs can be seen in foster homes by appointment. The better stories are when people are moving to an apartment or across the country and can't take their pet, the better people will bring their cat or kitten to a place like CARE. But even then some people just let them out and leave. And the really sad stories are when they just leave them in a carrier or box on the side of the road. It is so sad to see these poor cats and kittens abandoned because they were once love and now they have no one. But once you adopted one then they just are so much happier. On my board I have some picture of cats before and after adoption.
First, owning a pet can give people some major health benefits. Without a pet, a day at work or school can be stressful. By the end of the day, people could be ripping out their hair or throwing papers everywhere. This can make anyone’s heart rate go up as well as their blood pressure. Thankfully, studies have shown that interacting with a dog or other pet can lower his or her’s cortisol levels. For instance, after only three months, a group of people working with dogs were shown to have significant drops in blood pressure and stress. Pet’s happy go lucky vibes can impact their owners to feel the same, lowering his or her’s stress level. Even when someone sees a picture of their pet when they're stressed, it can immediately cause his or her’s heart
Pet adoption brings myriad health benefits. One of these benefits is the loyal companionship of shelter animals. GAWS shelter’s acting chief executive, Mia Shaw states, “There are big positives for a person’s mental and physical wellbeing in adopting a pet – there are so many benefits to adopting a dog or cat, including companionship and friendship” (qtd. in Sum 19). These animals help human beings physically and mentally by providing another incentive to exercise, and by providing a steady companionship. These benefits could potentially save the lives of depressed people and improve the lives of incapacitated people. Inclusively, shelter animals reduce stress and other health-related issues. Rescue cat owner, Lisa Barley notes, “Not only will you benefit from the joys of a furry friend’s unconditional love, but a pet can have a positive impact on your health, from helping you stay physically active to reducing stress and lowering blood pressure” (48). Adopting a pet is much like obtaining a best friend, who will provide unconditional love and support when the person needs it the most. Furthermore, most of the shelter animals are caged for days or even months, resulting in being restricted from social environments. Consequently, these animals end up being friendlier when they are adopted and placed in a steady home, unlike the ones obtained
Some people say that they, “Are not a cat person” and use that as their reason to not adopt cats. I used to not like cats very much, but after finding three abandoned kittens under my aunts daycare building, I saw how sweet cats can be if you give them the attention that they need. Taking care of those kittens everyday really made me realize that not all cats are mean or uninterested in everything. The main
