Throughout many years, kids have played a variety of video games. These games could range anywhere from warfare games such as Call of Duty Black Ops or sports games such as NCAA Football 11. Games that we played more consistently than others were the NCAA football games. The NCAA football games not only brought friends together but would also persuade our minds to play football when we were of age. The discontinuation of the NCAA college football series is a letdown to the people who enjoyed these games. However with the greediness of the athletes, EA will never be able to make another NCAA college football game. Growing up many of us dreamed to grow up and play football for our favorite college team. For most of us, that did not happen. However, playing NCAA college football games, kids were given the ability to create a hopeful prediction of what they may look like if we were playing for our favorite college team. Many of us predicted that we would be six foot two, two hundred and twenty pound athletes who were usually the stars of the team. After given this false hope, many of us worked as hard as we could to make that goal obtainable. Although lately, EA has not released any college football games and other games such as FIFA has been taking over. In an article it was stated, “He wondered how many kids have started watching European soccer games instead of college football on Saturdays as a result of playing EA’s FIFA game” (Rovell). With this being said, EA should be
4 Reasons Why You Should Watch March Madness When it comes to March Madness, like most things, there are those who get it and those who don’t. However, unlike other annual sports events, there is more to March Madness than meets the eye. For those who have no plans of watching the upcoming March Madness, here are four reasons why you should. The pressure With most sports, teams have plenty of chances to compete before they are kicked out of a tournament.
Many people argue that competitive sports raise numerous amounts of pressure on the youth making them distracted from things such as their education and because it can cause severe injuries, but some people argue that youth should play competitive sports because it teaches major life lessons that can help with many different aspects of their future such as college, getting a job, and many more. Playing competitive sports also improves your physical strength, another physical aspect of playing competitive sports is decreasing your chance of being obese or having disease. If you don't prefer to play competitive sports there are alternative options such as biking or walking to school. In an HT Health article “Sports Seen As Key Weapon in Fighting Teen Obesity” it says that in a study with 1,700 kids, ten percent walked or biked to school 3 ½ days a week,, in the study they found that biking or walking to school lowered the risk of being obese by 33%. I argue that kids should play competitive sports because of the important life skills taught through these sports and the physical benefit of playing sports. In this paper I will explain how communication, time management, and lowering the risk of being obese; supports my claim, “Kids should play competitive sports”
According to Forbes the NCAA currently produces nearly $11 Billion in annual revenue from college sports -- more than the estimated total league revenues of both the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. As the world of college sports continues to grow, thrive, and expand; it has become clear that there needs to be changes among the rules of the NCAA. The NCAA place themselves in a position to be one of the most successful nonprofits in the world by not fully compensating its students-athletes. Mark Emmert, the president of the NCAA, believes that “they are students, not employees.” If this is true then the student-athletes would not be dedicating so much time to the sport, they would not be missing class for their sporting events, and they would not be used as marketing ploys for the college.
The college football market is an inelastic market. It seems that no matter how high prices get for tickets or how high prices get to just wear their logo on their clothes, people will always pay the price. Although there are different ways to buy tickets or clothes, the market is still inelastic. Consumers want to be able to buy things for cheaper so they will look at different ways to purchase the tickets or merchandise. Even though they might not purchase these things through the program, the program is still the original supplier of these goods.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is an $11-billion-dollar industry that provides high school athletes the opportunity to continue their athletic careers while still getting an education. The NCAA is divided into three divisions; Division 1,2and 3. Between these 3 divisions the NCAA accounts for 72,788 football players. At the Division 1 level, athletes are awarded full athletic scholarships, also known as “full rides.” These athletes are in the top tier of their sport and some may even go on to play professionally. Division 2 athletes are looked at as 2nd best in comparison to Division 1 but nonetheless still have a lot of competition and offer partial athletic scholarships. The last of part of the NCAA is Division 3, where no athletic scholarships are awarded. One of the most controversial topics about athletic scholarships is why Division 3 schools don’t get any and this is best exemplified through the sport of football. In my opinion, all NCAA football players should receive full athletic scholarships regardless of division.
Every Saturday during the fall season, everyone will tune into watch the coveted college football games. Watching The Ohio State Buckeyes or The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, battle on the field to see who is the true victor. But no one every truly ask what the money is behind the programs. The Ohio State Football teams annual cost is $34,026,871 while the whole university annual budget is $5.7 Billon (). Just the football team is .59% of all the budget, even though this seems like a very minimal number it is quite huge mathematically. If the college would choose to make budget cuts the odds of the program being cut are so minimal, they would rather cut the English department even though it is way less beneficial for the college. College football is one of the few varsity level sports that all colleges have, most sports programs a black-holes money wise. Sucking in vigorous amount of funds while returning little to none. In 2014 out of the 130 DI Football teams only 24 teams actually made a profit from the sport (). Football being the number one sport in most colleges. The bigger the school the more money it will be able to produce from the football team but this is very rare. The whole subject about why college sports are even a thing is very controversial. One has to truly look at if the whole athletic programs are truly worth it. College athletic programs are very controversial and should be cut in some schools. College athletic programs cost way too much, are rarely
(Audience Appeal) (Visual aid) There are currently over 460,000 NCAA athletes and over 24 million Americans who are actively engaged in college sports. I’m sure a majority of you know a person who was involved in the NCAA system such as family and friends. This topic has been around for decades now affects thousands of people.
There has been amplified debate on the treatment, education, training of the college athlete. To avoid exploitation of athletes, “The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), formed in 1905, set bylaws requiring college student-athletes to be amateurs in order to be eligible for intercollegiate athletics competition” (Schneider n.p.). Intercollegiate athletics have dramatically changed over the last several decades. Currently, intercollegiate athletics generate tremendous amounts of revenue, remarkably in football and basketball. College sports in America is a
College football encourages unnecessary violence and puts various groups of people against each other instead of bringing them together. Some people have argued this since football was adopted to college in the late 1800s which has led considering a permanent ban on college football. Ted Miller attempts to prove that college football is not dangerous enough to be associated with a serious word like “ban”. Even though Ted Miller does make a point in his “Should College Football Be Banned” and clearly explains his opinion, he fails to defend the subject that college football, as harmful as it may seem, should remain a part of American college life.

“One rather simple way of getting interest into your paper is to take the side of the argument that most of the citizens will want to avoid.” (Roberts 381) I love that challenge. When a subject is given by a professor to their students, there are often many ways a student can take that subject and run. Just because a subject is about college football does not mean you should write about whether you agree with the sport or not. You can go many directions with that topic, how football can make students responsible, how college football can become a career, why college football is such a loved sport. I could go on and on. If you know or have an idea that other students in the class are writing in one direction why not give your instructor a curve
The protesting during the national anthem at National Football League games has become a very large topic in the current news. Kneeling has received a fair amount of negative feedback. Although protesting is not a publicly adored action, it continues on. It continues on because the player's believe in persistence, integrity and the ability to stand for their beliefs even when it is hard. By protesting the National Anthem before competitions, the NFL players are creating an atmosphere in which they are able to bring out and address issues with racial tension.
“6.5% of students become college football players and only 1 of the 1.5% of that group makes it to the NFL”
Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it’s not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.
Politics and sports are not two things to mix. NFL player, Colin Kaepernick did this by not standing up to the National Anthem at a game in August of 2016. Some might think that this is wrong and that no matter what ethnicity or race you are, that if you live in America, you should stand for the anthem. However, you can’t control what people are going to think. You might as well make America a communist nation if you are going to make people change their minds.
