Concealed carry has been in news for a while now and is a hot topic. Concealed carry means more guns around us. Those who not paying attention might assume that open concealed carry is something new, something rare, perhaps reckless at best and dangerous at worst, but that is far from the truth. The Daily Caller newspaper states that, “concealed carry is currently legal in 44 states, and in 30 states you don’t need a license to openly carry a holstered pistol.” The norm states that one had to be licensed to hide the licensed gun. Over the years various restrictive gun laws have been created state by state, largely in an effort to suppress the ability of minorities and criminals to carry guns. The ability to lawfully carry a hidden gun became …show more content…
I feel that more guns equal more gun violence. A research that was conducted by ProCon.org in 2000, states that citizens who carry concealed weapons are more than five times less likely to be charged with committing a violent crime and fourteen times less likely to be arrested for other offenses than those who do not carry (ProCon.org). I think why any individual without any criminal record should not be able to carry a concealed weapon is because, first of all, it increases the chances of something minor turning lethal. For instance, if a man confronted another man at a bar about something minor, the confrontation could turn into a screaming match and the man with the concealed weapon could shoot the other man. These chances can increase also when the person with the concealed weapon is intoxicated, afraid, or angry (Argument Essay). In addition, not just checking background is enough. What if a person gets his licensed gun and something bad happens to him later on, and he is very upset or say short tempered, and because he hold a gun it would not take much time for him to become bad and dangerous. Secondly, why citizens should not be able to carry concealed guns is because most adults who carry them are not trained properly (Argument Essay). Even though according to the law, one of the requirements to get licensed for a gun is to pass the test, I think it still is not
Only this month, 59 were killed and over 500 people were injured during a country music concert in Vegas in what is now known as the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Last year, 49 were killed and 58 were injured in a gay nightclub in Florida. In 2012, a mass shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School took 27 lives, 20 of them being first graders. The list of these unthinkable and stomach-churning acts is quickly turning endless, forcing us to rethink why we truly have the right to bear arms. Many defend the second amendment by claiming we need this right for self defense, which is the most wretched part. When we look at what we have lost compared to what we have earned in this fight to keep the right to bear arms, this privilege does not seem worth the sacrifice of so many lives. In today’s world, we do not defense through guns but from them. Our policymakers keep trying to reach a compromise by putting in place certain regulations. “Some states require would-be gun owners to fulfill a firearms safety course in order to obtain their license.” “Such training courses, however, even when not required, are very advisable for the would-be gun owner, as they ensure that he or she has all the necessary information on liability issues, on safety, and even on care and maintenance of the gun” ( How to Get a Gun License 1). This lack of attention illustrates that despite the multiple tragedies that have taken place in our nation, some states do not even require a simple safety course that ensures the safety of our people. Furthermore, it is required that one must pass a background check. The questions asked on the test are the following:
For hundreds of years, the United States has debated to what extent the 2nd amendment has really applied to the citizens of the nation. Concealed weapons licenses have almost always been an option for the people to feel safe knowing they are protected, but many think that this is the reason for such crime this world sees, and have tried to take that power from “We the People.” Concealed weapons availability should not be tinkered with, and the 2nd amendment shall stand as it has for the last 224 years.
Blood covers the streets, screams of terror boom through the halls, and silent tears stream through a young girls cheek. This is officially not an uncommon act, even though the news will still cut the show you are currently watching with some “breaking news” with another tragic event of massive shootings. These attacks are now a possibility to those wishing to wreck the peace in Texas, with bills and laws making more accessible to commit heinous crimes . The State of Texas needs to reconsider if campuses should allow concealed guns in their premises, and remove this “liberty” to massacre.
This year alone the city of chicago has recieved 83,183 applications for the ability to conceal and carry weapons through out the state.
October 1, 2017 marked the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. With almost 500 injured and 58 killed, not only did Las Vegas feel the tragedy of a personal loss, but the incident had rippling effects that shook all of America (Flaherty). With the fresh wounds of the recent Las Vegas shooting, politician's initial reaction is to implement more strict gun restrictions and "lay down the law" to prevent a similar event from happening again. Due to the drastic laws being carried out, the topic of gun control is a current issue in society. Is the solution to implement more firm restrictions on gun ownership or can the government allow the people to be their own advocates? While the opposing views of pro-gun restrictions argue that is up to the discretion of the government, they are often narrow-minded resolutions with no hope to finding a real solution. This particular shooter obtained his guns legally and passed all background checks, going unnoticed until his plan unfolded. Establishing more strict firearm restrictions would not have stopped the Las Vegas shooting from occurring. The number of gun restrictions can not increase, the government needs to either fix the existing laws or do away with gun restrictions entirely. Gun restrictions are not the solution because guns are not doing the killing--people are, the laws only attack the law-abiding citizens, and the gun restrictions add another infringed upon right that the government controls. While voting against additional gun rules will not completely eliminate the controversy behind this topic, voting against these laws will be a milestone to regaining the rights we have already been promised.
Another major reason why we should be able to carry concealed hand guns is for the protection of our self, families and other. The opponents support prohibition of guns as they claim concealed handguns are not effective methods of self-defense. A person carrying a concealed gun for self-defense is more likely to be shot during an assault than a victim who has no gun. Victims having guns are 4.5 times likely to be shot in an assault than victims without guns as they are not able to use concealed guns as attackers overpower them and also surprise them. In everyday life, there is a chance you will be put in a situation where self-defense will be needed and there is also a higher chance that the criminal or person you are protecting yourself from will be armed. We can all conjure up the night mare scenario of being defenseless in a violent confrontation with a burglar, mugger, carjacker, rapist, or gangs of youth. Violent criminals will always
Have you at any point felt terrified and unprotected? You know, that feeling you get when you 're strolling through a terrible piece of town alone and you understand that your telephone just kicked the bucket and there 's nobody around to hear you scream if something happened? Presently envision feeling that way wherever you go, constantly. This is the truth that we Joined States nationals would be living in if our legislature were to execute add up to firearm control. Completely there should be some control, and no uncertainty more stringent directions to possess and convey a firearm than we have now, yet removing weapons from all of us together would be a disaster!
Concealed weapons laws make the non carrying public feel less safe. It could make the public
For many years now, the debate on whether or not American citizens should or shouldn't be allowed to be in possession of a concealed weapon has been a constant trend. Gun possession has been a part of American culture for many years, as militia's and minutemen were a necessity in the past. It has become a constitutional right for an American citizen to "keep and bear arms" according to the Bill of Rights created in 1791. Because of this, America the top first-world country with the most access to firearms. Today, it is popular belief that because of the easy access to guns, criminals can execute crimes with ease. This ongoing argument has been the cause of creating and disbanding gun laws in many states. Where I stand on this debate leans
Have you ever wondered if anyone around you is carrying a concealed handgun and might misuse it? A large population of the United States does in fact carry concealed handguns. That means in 10 states more than 10% of the adult population have concealed handgun permits. Some reasons that so many adults have permits is because, concealed carry can save lives, and concealed carry can make people feel safer. Some people believe that concealed carry can be a harmful thing that adults in general are allowed to carry a concealed handgun. On the other hand, adults should be able to carry concealed handguns, because most people with firearms most likely won’t misuse them.
I want each and every one of you sitting here to imagine how it would be like if there is a person sitting next to you with a concealed handgun. Would you be fine with that or would you tremble in fear just like me and wonder if this would be the last moments of my life. People often claim that owning a gun would make them feel safer, but have they ever thought about how people around them would feel. Therefore today, I am here to talk about why the Texas legislature should repeal Senate Bill 11 which is campus carry. I have done research trying to understand the challenges we students would face with the help of Internet. So today, we would take a brief look at what campus carry is? Secondly, we will talk about the reasons why we do not need such a bill in our campuses. Thirdly, few ideas and plans on how we could stop this bill. And last but not least talk about the practicality of our plan.
One afternoon on December 11, 2012 normal, loyal citizens were going about their day, shopping for what they needed. All was fine until lound sounds were heard across the mall. This was not any loud sound, it was a gunshot. People rushing to cover, protecting their children and loved ones from the firing of a gun. Two lives of poor innocent civilians were coldly taken away from their bodies, and one of them on the floor with a critical injury. The man was named Jacob Roberts, a cold blooded murderer, firing at everything that moved, but then it suddenly stopped. Someone told him to leave, and he retreated. The man who asked him to leave is named Nick Meli. He held up his gun to Roberts and made him retreat and he did in fear of getting shot. If it wasn’t for someone having a gun to stop him, many more people would have died (Bella). This is not the only time when someone is saved by their gun; for example the New Life Church Shooting, the trolley square shooting, and the San Antonio Theater Shooting where all stopped by a civilian stopping the shooter before he murders more people (Broderick). If Congress passes stricter gun laws, it will be a grave mistake because it will take away guns from loyal, honest citizens, make victims of homicide more vulnerable, and while trying to stop mass shootings by banning guns, Congress will benefit the economy of the black market.
The response all depends on the circumstances and local policy, for example, if the property has zero tolerance for guns, the safest way to handle the situation is to immediately inform the authorities and let them to resolve the problem appropriately. Arguing with patients about guns may escalate to a volatile situation and my cause more harms. A person might carry a concealed firearm and go through a stroke or involve with a car accident and can’t do anything about the concealed carry gun. Emergency responders and health care providers should anticipate that any patient may have a concealed weapon and should never approach a patient who appears threatening with a weapon, no matter how ill the person seems. Law enforcements are the best choice
Imagine somebody breaking into your home with the intentions of hurting you and your family and trying to take all your valuables that you own in your house, and not having anything to protect your loved ones. Without the protection of a firearm, the intruder could injure or kill all members within the household easily. In the United States, according to the Bill of Rights, a citizen has the right to bear arms, however, recently people have started to believe that guns only incite violence and therefore gun laws need to be more strict. Although, If you own the firearm for the right reasons and go through the process of having a carrying license, then that is within your rights to protect yourself and be able to own the gun. Therefore,
175 million-350 million: the number of firearms currently available in the United States. 150 million: the number of handguns included in that amount. Guns are everywhere in America; it is part of the American culture. The second amendment ensures the people the right to bear arms. However, not everyone in the country knows how to correctly use firearms. There are shootings still going on throughout the country, but if we come up with more laws to try to keep the guns out of the wrong hands we might live a better life. People already have to get permits for carrying handguns. If we could make more laws so you have to have a permit to carry rifles and shotguns, maybe less mass shootings would happen. The main thing is to stop people from stealing
