Carrying a Concealed Weapon
Should the people of America be allowed to carry a concealed handgun if they have passed a legitimate and complex background check? This is a widely controversial topic that has been talked about and brought up in many conversations. What is the right answer? You can look at it from both sides and have a legitimate argument no matter which you agree with. So what is your stance? To me no matter what the excuse is, no person should be able to carry a concealed weapon. I believe that whatever the circumstance may be, no one person should be able to carry a concealed weapon no matter if they have passed a background check or not to ensure the safety of those around. Let me start with a couple facts to provide some background information on the issue. 40 out of the 50 states have the “right to carry” and 9 states have restricted or denied the right to carry a concealed weapon. The 40 states that have allowed the use of this with a permit have seen a fall in crime rates since this was enacted. After passing the

This is astonishing lower than before. Why do we argue that giving the people the right to carry a concealed weapon increases the crime rate when in fact, I have provided proof that it actually lowers the rate substantially. Well, in this case, I am arguing the point that there could be a slight chance that a man or woman loses their temper one day and pull out their right and shoot away lives within seconds and now this great idea that supposedly brings the crime rate down now makes it shoot up because of a mass shooting by one person who just simply was having a bad day. My point is that we should aire on the side of caution and be safe than sorry. Why would we want to put these innocent lives
Concealed carry has been in news for a while now and is a hot topic. Concealed carry means more guns around us. Those who not paying attention might assume that open concealed carry is something new, something rare, perhaps reckless at best and dangerous at worst, but that is far from the truth. The Daily Caller newspaper states that, “concealed carry is currently legal in 44 states, and in 30 states you don’t need a license to openly carry a holstered pistol.” The norm states that one had to be licensed to hide the licensed gun. Over the years various restrictive gun laws have been created state by state, largely in an effort to suppress the ability of minorities and criminals to carry guns. The ability to lawfully carry a hidden gun became
In a nation that prides itself on protecting the rights of all citizens, one right is under a blistering attack. According to the second amendment the “right to bear arms shall not be infringed” but in every corner of America that right is getting closer and closer to disappearing. In the news, Americans only hear of the guns that kill, they don’t hear of the guns that save. The fact of the matter is, the right to carry concealed weapons has saved lives.
For hundreds of years, the United States has debated to what extent the 2nd amendment has really applied to the citizens of the nation. Concealed weapons licenses have almost always been an option for the people to feel safe knowing they are protected, but many think that this is the reason for such crime this world sees, and have tried to take that power from “We the People.” Concealed weapons availability should not be tinkered with, and the 2nd amendment shall stand as it has for the last 224 years.
Secondly, we should have the right to conceal one at all times for safety reasons. According to “Should Adults Have the Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun?” “States that implemented ‘shall-issue’ concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robbery by 3%, according to a 2000 analysis of FBI crime data by economist and political commentator John R. Lott Jr., PhD. Lott calculated that 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults, and 12,000 robberies could have been prevented between 1977 and 1992 if concealed carry had been legal in every US state during that time period. In addition, a 2013 peer-reviewed study in Applied Economic Letters, found that between 1980 and 2009, ‘states with more restrictive CCW (carrying concealed weapons) laws had gun-related murder rates that were 10% higher.’Detroit Chief of Police Larry Craig said permitted concealed weapons are ‘a deterrent,’ and ‘Good Americans with CPLs (concealed permit licenses) translates into crime reduction.’ A 2013 survey of 15,000 current and retired police officers found that 91.3% support the concealed carry of guns by civilians.” Crime numbers reduced when states allow citizens to conceal a weapon at all times, while states that made it difficult to conceal a gun saw the crime rates jack up. We should be able to carry concealed weapons to stop crime in its tracks.
Blood covers the streets, screams of terror boom through the halls, and silent tears stream through a young girls cheek. This is officially not an uncommon act, even though the news will still cut the show you are currently watching with some “breaking news” with another tragic event of massive shootings. These attacks are now a possibility to those wishing to wreck the peace in Texas, with bills and laws making more accessible to commit heinous crimes . The State of Texas needs to reconsider if campuses should allow concealed guns in their premises, and remove this “liberty” to massacre.
Today, I am going to tell you about the right to carry concealed gun and why we need it. I have researched both sides of this controversy, and the need to carry concealed gun is the stronger argument. According to Deborah Homsher, author of Women & Guns: Politics and the Culture of Firearms in America, when states passed the laws which give adults the right to carry concealed guns if they don 't have a criminal record or mental illness, “the number of multiple-victim shootings declined by 84 percent” (265). Furthermore, a 2015 report from the Crime Prevention Research found that the number of concealed guns permits has soared, growing from 4.6 million in 2007 to over 12.8 million in 2014 (6). First, I’m going to tell you effective of carry concealed gun. Second, I’ll tell you the purpose of being
This year alone the city of chicago has recieved 83,183 applications for the ability to conceal and carry weapons through out the state.
The United States of America has a problem that is growing worse every day. American laws are not protecting its citizens from injury or death. You may think the mass shootings in America the guns used were bought illegally, but “since 1982, there have been at least 62 mass shooter carried out with firearms across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii. Of the 139 guns possessed by the killers, more than three quarters were obtained legally. The arsenal included dozens of assault weapons and semiautomatic handguns.” (Follman). Times have changed and so should our gun laws. The federal government should enact more control on all personal guns in order to reduce
People in this country assume that more guns will equal more crime. This is simply not true. States with shall issue permits have 10% fewer gun homicides than may issue States. After Florida passed their shall issue concealed carry law, the State saw homicide rates fall from 36% above the National average, to 4% below the average. Another argument that is commonly made, is that people who conceal carry are more likely to commit crimes now that they can lawfully carry a firearm. That statement is yet another myth in the debate of gun control. Since 1988, crime rates involving concealed carriers has consistently been around .02%. People possessing a concealed carry permit are 6 times less likely to be arrested for a violent crime, and 13 times less likely to be arrested for a non-violent offense. This facts are also echoed by the National law enforcement community, who adamantly support Americans right to defend themselves. A study that was issued in 2013, found that 91% of law enforcement personnel believe concealed carry should be permitted, “without question and further restrictions.” Another 2013 study by a National police gun policy organization, found that 86% of law enforcement officers in the United States believe that concealed carry is the single most effective way to stop mass casualty shootings. Concealed weapons are frequently used to prevent crimes and mass shootings in the United States. A Florida State University study asked 4,978 people, if they have used a concealed weapon in any way, to prevent or stop a crime. 1.33% of respondents reported having done so within the past year. If you multiply these numbers to fit the United States population, that would come to 1.9 million crimes that have been prevented by a concealed firearm. The numbers and facts present do not lie. If you put these statistics next to the testimony from law enforcement, you cannot deny the
According to a Violence Policy Center analysis of news reports, concealed carry permit holders have killed at least 11 law enforcement officers and 319 private citizens since May 2007, 19 of these were mass shootings, and 27 murder-suicides. I personally believe that individuals in America without a criminal record should not be able to carry a concealed weapon in public settings. Carrying a concealed weapon in public settings is automatically imposing a threat on those around you. It increases the chances of an altercation escalating and turning lethal and is portrayed as “self-defense”. Giving individuals the right to carry a concealed weapon in public settings makes the ones without a weapon feel less safe, or intimidated at all
This country has a mental health issue. We don't want to talk about it because it makes us look vulnerable. There is no law that can fix this, you could literally go door to door and take every single firearm in this country and we would still see tragedies like this occurring. We have a shit ton of people in this country and people like to kill each other, it's just the way this works for some reason. The reality of it is this; these public shooters are more or less a statistical anomaly. They're comparatively rare in a country where people constantly use illegally-acquired firearms to commit murders every day.
On every news channel in the nation, the current controversy is whether the citizens of the United States should be put under more gun control or have more freedom to carry. Political parties, courts, and individuals have different viewpoints on the matter as a whole, but they fail to mention a few aspects. All states should recognize concealed carry gun laws because of the citizens constitutional right, the safety benefits, and the financial benefits that firearms bring to the United States.
Gun control is one of the most talked about topics in modern day America. 43 of 50 states have the right to bear arms. Most states have to background check you in order for you to purchase or sell guns. Some other states prevent carrying guns and some other ban assault rifle weapons. People who support the gun laws say that the second amendment was meant for militias and that gun restrictions have always existed. People who oppose that say that guns are needed for self-defense from people who invade houses or are actual threats. Although both of those are correct, there will always be two sides for control laws.
Concealed carry is a constitutional right to citizens of the U.S. for the right to bear arms. People who support of concealed carry law say that criminals are less likely to attack someone they believe to be armed. It is set in stone that Americans have the right to bear arms. This should not be any different nowadays that violence and crime rates are going through the roof (Henigan).
How many people have to die before this world will let go of these dangerous weapons? The Chinese invented gunpowder in the 9th century which lead to the creation of guns. A repeating firearm is a firearm that holds more that one cartridge and can be fired more than once between chargings. Gun control should be enforced more because it will help prevent violence, it can help stop crime, and although some people may argue that gun control should not be enforced because guns can help save people’s lives but they are wrong because people misuse guns.
