People are trying so hard to chase the American Dream that they forget about their health, which is currently a huge problem in America. It’s such a big problem that people outside the USA has stereotypes about the Americans, e.g. “Fat American” or that all Americans are fat and lazy. When people think about Americans the first things that comes on their minds are,” Americans are the fattest people in the entire world, and they sit around eating bon-bons and fast food all day.” Obesity is getting worse and worse in America, but what is the main reason for that?
As years go by American weight struggle has been getting worse. People with diabetes today has more than double since 1994. While there are ways to help bring down obesity, most companies have not taken action. There are many factors to why obesity has only been increasing all these years.
The United States of America is nation that is known for its romance with guns and food. Not the most glamorous idea to be known for but in a way the comical characteristics fit the ever growing nation. Yet this obsession with the greasy, cheesy, and always supersized holds a much grimmer reality. Obesity in America is through the roof with 36 percent of American adults being classified as obese. This alongside the rapid growth of childhood obesity has created a love for shows about weight loss and health like those of “The Biggest Loser”. These inspirational shows help to show that “it” can be done, the seemingly impossibility of losing the hundreds of pounds that need to go. Though the shows are inspirational and entertaining, they are dangerous for all of the people who have lost all this weight disillusioned that they can keep it of, furthermore the
America’s Obesity rate has dramatically increased throughout the years. The United States of America obesity rate is ranked in the top 10 countries in the whole universe. This is outrageous, and there must be something done in order to decrease it. Many Americans don’t even know what obesity means and how it targets millions in the nation. Obesity is when an individual is overweight, this can be classified with your BMI. Many reasons that obesity can attack you is through great amounts of calories we intake daily, and our lack of exercise,
Well, as you know from resent news updates and news papers America is one of the “fattest” countries in the world. Most people would love to blame that problem on the restaurants. It’s not the restaurants fault that the people of America are over weight. People have a mind of their own, they know exactly what they want, when they want it, and how they want it.
Obesity is a very serious subject that a lot of people take lightly, especially us as Americans. America is the most obese country in the world. Statistics show that 300,000 people die a day in the United States of America due to obesity. This clearly shows that we have a serious problem that is massively underestimated. Obesity is also something that countries all across the world suffer from. For example, Australia is also one of the most obese countries in the world, and 50,000 people die a year from obesity in Australia. That’s 140 people who die per day in Australia. To solve the problem of obesity the prices of junk food should be raised and the prices of healthy food should be lowered and more convenient.
More than 2.1 billion people are overweight in our nation. This is a shocking statistic because more and more people are becoming overweight each year. It is important to recognize this is an epidemic in our nation. It is bad for our health and something needs to be done to stop this problem. Recent articles are talking about why people are becoming overweight or obese. The three culprits to blame people becoming overweight are the consumer, government, and the Food Industry.
There is a growing trend of overweight people living in America. This is nothing new however, overseas Americans are known for being “fat” and “lazy”, and for the most part it is hard to argue otherwise. American’s being overweight has become such a common trend, that when I walk down the street, and happen to see an overweight person, I don’t even consider them as being overweight anymore, because it has become commonplace, and obese American’s may get a look here and there but for the most part they are just passed by the same as everyone else. Americans are living in a society where people worship food and supermarkets have become the new cathedrals in this country.
In the last few years many programs have been started to try to combat obesity. Some have worked in different ways. Programs like Play 60, their main goal is to “To make the next generation of youth the most active and healthy.” The NFL launched the program in 2007
This generation is dying and no one is doing much about it. The people have no one to blame but themselves. They give into temptation and pay for food that is terrible for their health. Although is it really the people's fault? The food industries are made to finesse people into being consumers, starting with making the healthy foods extremely expensive and then making the unhealthy foods less than a couple buck plus and three times the healthy serving size. Instead of blaming the people tell the food industries to change their whole ordeal.
In the United States, there are over 152,000 fast food chains, with McDonald’s menacingly taking the title for the largest. While these restaurants have created over thirteen million jobs, they have most certainly caused more harm than good. Three percent of Americans claim that they eat fast food every single day and twenty eight percent claim to eat fast food once per week, spending approximately a hundred dollars on fast food per month (“11”). Obesity is climbing to record highs for adults within America. With this being said, more than one-third of American adults are considered to be obese, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity-related conditions including strokes, heart disease, type two diabetes, and certain types of cancer are some of the leading causes of preventable deaths in the United States. There are thousands of solutions to losing weight, but when dieting and exercise have failed, people can resort to surgery. Those who are in need of losing weight permanently should consider gastric bypass surgery because it is one of the most effective ways to lose the weight safely and quickly.
provoke Americans from purchasing them. Obesity could be stopped if citizens chose better drinks in fact , “obesity rates could be reduced by 1-to-4 percentage points if sugary beverages are taxed moderately” (Sahadi). By putting a tax on these beverages Americans will be less likely to buy them. Although the percentage change is not that high it will prevent many citizens in choosing this unhealthy lifestyle.
In a time where obesity rates are the highest they've ever been, and scientific research is being done to prove the effects of eating healthy on the human body, it is more necessary than ever to change the diets of American people in order to reduce the "obesity crisis". This is due to the processed food industry. The processed food industry loves adding sugar and fats to their products to make it more craved by the consumer and even save them money. For example, trans fats help preserve a product's shelf-life and are also easily portable. Although the use of these items may save the manufacturer's money, they also cause many medical issues, cost tax payer's money, and affect children most of all. While many Americans believe that their fundamental rights are being violated as the government begins to regulate how much they eat, it important for the government to put regulations in place so that these issues do not progress further.
Numerous people are clueless to the fact that consuming too many calories can gradually become deadly. Obesity is one of the many problems in America, yet people do not keep in mind that a healthy diet is essential to maintain a long life. As much as humans love to carelessly eat a variety of foods, limiting consumption is beneficial to oneself. People need to be aware of one’s weight to better the country and help reduce the obesity rate. Many people have their own meaning of obese, but let me clarify: obese is defined as a weight that is higher than what is considered a healthy weight. Healthy weight depends on multiple factors, gender, age, and height. Being corpulent may be viewed as normal in these modern times, but the fact is that it is a real problem in America. Millennials may be the first generation to put a stop to the obesity epidemic but this is only successful by changing available food, adding taxes on unhealthy food, educating people to consume healthier foods, having a healthier lifestyle and preventing diseases.
How hungry have Americans become? Obesity has become such a common problem for all Americans ranging from the youngest to the oldest person. Ever since the 70’s obesity has been on a steep increase and it has not stopped. The problem with obesity is that it does not only add on more pounds, it also leads to more serious diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Because of this it is crucial that the 18-26 year olds fix this widespread disease for the simple fact that they will save the fate of America. This is an issue that has been pushed aside because it is such a controversial topic in part because people don’t know where to place the blame. Some agree that the individuals need to take personal responsibility while others say it is all the fast food industry's fault. On the other hand, many believe it happens because people don’t know how to balance what they are eating and that obesity is just in their genetics. Despite where the blame lies obesity is still on a killing spree and action needs to be taken towards it. In order to fix the epidemic of obesity as well as obesity related diseases people need to start taking more personal responsibility, but the fast food industry's also need to make some changes.
Do you know that 115,000 deaths in America last year are associated with obesity? Which means that around 320 people die from obesity per day. This sound like obesity in USA takes an epidemic path, doesn’t it? While obesity considers a disease not a cause of death, it goes along with heart disease that is the leading cause of death for people of most ethnicities in the United States. Obesity levels in USA has reached 37% while Netherlands Department of Health reported 11% for 2016 year. Food culture in America has caused critical levels of obesity disease, whereas European countries keep the obesity level through time. What made a food culture in USA be so dangerous for its population? Can we adopt a smart eating solution from the Netherlands in order to stop the epidemic obesity?
