Gay marriage is a topic that is so often discussed by those with highly diverse opinions. As some people agree with those of the same sex pursuing marriage, others do not seem to feel the same way. This fact can apply to individuals as well as entire countries. Several of these individuals and countries originally agreed with the subject of gay marriage as others were required to be forced due to the fact that their ban on gay marriage was decided as unconstitutional. Same-sex marriage is a controversial issue in today's world where some choose to agree with the decision of homosexual people and some choose to oppose it, all doing so usually for different reasons.
In the present time, marriage between two people of the same sex is legal in 37 states and the District of Columbia. During the course of the United States’ history, people have fought discrimination. People has battled to recognize equality for racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, and immigrants. As a result, denying some people, the option to marry due to their sexual orientation is discriminatory and creates the idea of a second of class citizens. I am pro-gay marriage not only for what I have stated before but also for the following disclosure.
Marriage is something everyone is aware of. The idea of marriage was once a huge tradition thought to be ‘for ever’. The definition of marriage is enshrined in section 46 of the Marriage Act (1961) and defined as the union of a man and women to the exclusion of all others voluntarily entered into for life. This definition deliberately excludes homosexuals. Section 88EA stated ‘a union solemnised in a foreign country between (a) a man and another man, or (b) a woman and another woman, must not be recognised as a marriage in Australia’. Although couples had married overseas, the commonwealth was not willing to allow any degree of same-sex marriage to be valid within Australia. In the current legislation, the different level of treatment between
Same sex- marriage is still the topic of many peoples conversation across the country. Citizens, divided by politic party, are very passionate about how they feel about it. The president didn’t approve of it at first, but now he finally accepts same- sex marriage, the Judicial System uses its power to dictate to the States, forcing them to accept same- sex marriage. Both houses of Congress continue to debate what marriage means.
For generations, homosexuality has been repelled against and condemned. Homosexuality is not “normal” according to certain traditions and religions. However, in March of 2015, “U.S. District Judge Daniel Joran issued a preliminary injunction against the ban, citing the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide”. On June 26, 2015 gay marriage was finally legal in all fifty states. With this law being passed, much weight was taken off same-sex couples, however, they are still facing a multitude of hardships. Same-sex relationships are presented with an abundance of obstacles when it comes to parenthood opposed to heterosexual couples. However, the hardest one they face is before parenthood- the process of adoption and the technology that aids in procreation.
On May 18, 1970, Jack Baker and Michael McConnell walked into a courthouse in Minneapolis, paid $10, and applied for a marriage license. The county clerk Gerald Nelson refused to give them one because marriage was for couples that were opposite sex. Baker and McConnell did not give up, Baker quit his engineering job to attend law school at the University of Minnesota. He spent hours in the library researching Minnesota’s marriage statute word for word. He discovered a loophole that It did not state that two people of the same sex couldn’t get married. Baker thought that the best alternative to legal marriage would be to get some of the benefits of marriage, which would be adoption. Because Minnesota law did not forbid an adult to adopt another adult, McConnell was able to legally adopt Baker. That allowed Baker to change his last name to McConnell and his first name to one that was gender neutral like Pat Lynn.
Frank Ocean once said, “I believe that marriage isn’t between man and woman, but in between love and love”. For the past couple of years, Gay marriage and the topic of the LGBT community has been a very controversial topic, especially in America. In the midst of being legalized around the world entirely, there are many people that disagree with the gay marriage, and the concept of gay itself. Gay marriage should be a supported idea because it does not affect anyone in anyway and by supporting it beneficial factors can happen.
The debate between whether gay marriage should be legalized or not has been a controversial topic recently. In the past twelve years, equal marriage rights have been legalized in 6 states of the U.S.. Eighteen states do not allow gay marriage and do not recognize civil unions. The other twenty six states allow civil unions, and some are debating legalizing gay marriage. Gay marriage should be legal across the United States.
United States is a country where every citizen has an equal right to be free and everyone is treated equal without looking at the race, gender, or the class of a citizen. Even though we live in a free country where everyone has equal rights, there is still a debate going on whether same-sex marriage should be allowed. Gay marriage has been an issue in the United States since the early 1970s. In the 1970 case of Baker v. Nelson, two men named Richard Baker and James McConnell were denied a marriage license by the Hennepin County District Court's clerk in Minnesota. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled the case in favor of the county clerk saying that the clerk has the right to decline a marriage license to gay couples. Gay marriage became an issue in California when Proposition 8 was passed in the November 2008 elections. Proposition eight stated that "only marriage
You walk into class and see "pop quiz" written on the board. Everyone sits down and the bell rings for class to begin. The teacher makes an announcement and says 'everyone that is failing my class does not have to take this quiz everyone else grab your pencils.' How do the rest of you feel? How is that fair? How does a grade make me different from the other people? You probably feel discriminated. How does a grade decipher what I get and don't get in life? So how should a gender decipher who you can and can't get married too? Same sex marriage has been illegal in many states for awhile now. Very few states have legalized it. Many many people believe it is not right. Then you have the other people that believe gender should
2016 should be the year were we make gay marriage legal. If we do make gay marriage legal it would bring equality to Australia as well avoid act’s of homophobia and we will be able to improve the wellbeing of young children. Providing Same same-sex marriage will not harm anyone because it would benefit everyone in the LBGT+ community and others. When it’s legalised Australia will be a happier, more safe environment and more people will come out as being gay. The benefits of legalising gay marriage in Australia would be; people will feel safe and welcomed, it may prevent mass shooting of gays and we will be able to educate young kids on gay wellbeing.
Same-sex marriage allows marriage between man and man or woman and woman. This is an age old fight between conservatives and democrats. Traditionally marriage has been between man and woman, conservatives hold to this idea, while typically democrats push for marriage equality among genders. People who are pro-legalization argue denying a person marriage from someone is an act of discrimination and creates second class citizens. Though those who are anti-legalization argue the institution should remain between man and woman as per tradition. Pro same sex marriage is the position many people are beginning to adopt as they realize love is love and the gender of the people does not matter. To provide true equality gay marriage needs to be legalized in all countries around the world, which also helps to create a safer environment for those in the LGBT+ community by not being legally discriminated against.
One argument for gay marriage and the support of gay lifestyles is that homosexuals cannot help who they are since they were born that way. We should not judge their sex choices any more than someone's skin color. The Bible does not agree. It says that we are all born with the propensity to sin and we need to fight against it. Some face a desire to steal, some to lie, some to kill, and others to sin sexually.
This issue continues to arise and spark debate year after year and decade after decade however the facts remain that this issue should simple be answered with a yes due to the fact that all humans deserve a right to freedom and as such that right to freedom will technically dictate that they will be given the right to decide any decision they may come across, however on the technical side of debate the four main theories of morality& religion, ethical naturalism, moral relativism and nihilism all present a different side and different approach to the issue.
Sometimes I don’t know whether to kick the Supreme Court or kiss it. As America seemingly turns to the left, albeit by judicial fiat, the Right will have its revenge in 2016 via the legitimate voice of the people, the ballot box. This is where real change happens. A few black robed tyrants in narrow decisions on Obamacare and “Gay Marriage” may impose their will on the American people for a spell, but we the people still have the ultimate check on a court run amok and now have a rallying cry to overturn these political/judicial decisions. Such revolutionary change to our fundamental values should never be made by the courts, instead the people through our representative government should resolve these controversial issues. By giving
