Persuasive Essay On Gun Control

Change is eluding our sight. There is no doubt that the debate of gun control has been prominent for several years. However, very little in the way of change has occurred. The question has shifted from how to establish gun control, to how can we avoid gun control. We the people have reached a point of no self control. We have been swept away by the blur of freedom’s sweet kiss. We hold a real issue at hand, now is most certainly not the time to sit around and ponder about the issue, we must take action in order to keep our communities safe.

Every so often the media and news feeds flood with reports of a mass shooting. Families mourn. In the days that follow, calls to action can be heard, and there is a demand for change. Sometimes minor legislation passes, but in the United States extreme change is rarely seen. Other developed nations provide an opposite comparison. Following the Port Arthur shooting in Australia and the shooting in Great Britain, both countries organized for significant gun reform.

According to Nicholas Kristof’s article “our blind spot about guns” gun control is a lot like cars regulation such that if we can regulate cars we can regulate guns. It took a lot of time and effort but thanks to regulations cars are safer than they were many years ago, and the same is very possible with guns. We need to keep our country safe. The first steps to gun control are improving on background checks and also requiring trigger locks on all guns.

With gun related crimes steadily increasing, the spotlight has been on a solution to cease firearm problems. Firearms have been around for hundreds of years, and they are included in self-defense, sport, show, and unfortunately crime. The danger of the situation immediately escalades when there is a firearm involved. A plan to fix these issues has been talked about and looked at throughout the recent years, but there are many different aspects you have to look at when trying to find a solution for this problem. However, not all gun related situations are at fault, for most people follow the law, using and collecting the guns for sporting, collecting, and self-defense purposes. The United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights states that the Second Amendment which is the right to bear arms which is allowing us to have weapons in our hands; many individuals are becomingly increasingly unsure of where the line is drawn on being able to have a gun and what prevents people from using them for harm. Some people have argued that even though the Second Amendment does protect our individual rights to have the option to own arms, that it should give the government authority to ban high-crime communities from using handguns. Gun violence embraces every town in the United States.

Breaking news, an “assault weapon” walked in a school and wreaked havoc creating the ninth school shooting we’ve had this year! You may be thinking, what, a gun with a mind of its own? Well, that is exactly the type of thinking the news and gun-control activists want you to have. I have never met a firearm who wants or even can shoot someone, have you? That leads us to think about who the real problem is with gun-control, the firearm, or the human? If these activists were to become successful, we would be able to see the effects. The consequences of people not being able to own guns would have tremendous effects on safety, such as self-defense, which is why laws should focus on placing more restrictions on who can get guns, strengthening the filtering system, and placing harder penalties for those who use guns wrongfully or who do not have the right paperwork.

As Americans are proud to be reside in the “land of the free,” our nation is noted to have pride of being able to own and carry a firearm. The right for Americans to bear arms is protected under the second amendment of the United States Constitution. However, this privilege has been taken advantaged of in the recent years. Unfortunately, more than 31,000 Americans die from gunshot wounds(1). Americans wake up to devastating news in relation to gun violence on their tv screen more frequently than before. Even when the United States is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, there is still so many casualties in relation to gun violence(2). These unfortunate deaths raise the question of whether Americans should be restricted from owning firearms. In the United States, the right to own a gun should not be banned and abolished, but be looked into carefully to decrease the mortality rate by guns.

There are many weapon laws set up, as there has to be. Firearms can be utilized for viciousness and wrongdoing and they have to make sure certain individuals are not capable of getting them. Firearm laws are in place to keep these weapons out of risky peoples hands. As stated before even some of the most conservative states deny people with criminal records guns, because they are violent offenders or have drug related crimes. At 10:08 P.M. on October 1, 2017, the lives of thousands of Americans were suddenly and horrifically altered. Stephen Paddock, armed with rifles altered to achieve fully-automatic fire rates, unleashed an onslaught of lead from his thirty-second-floor balcony. His target was the Los Vegas Strip, where 22,000 people were gathered for the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. For close to ten minutes Paddock turned what was supposed to be a carefree culmination of the three-day festival into a living hell. When the smoke cleared, 580 people lay on the ground bleeding, of which fifty-eight were dead. The next morning, America awoke to the carnage caused by the worst mass shooting in its history, and true to form, immediately started pointing

Rarely does something good ever end up as breaking news. No one ever reports things like, Carol stopped for that stop sign, way to follow the law! Or Jimmy used the crosswalk. Yay! No- that is just not how our world today works. I suppose, all the negativity is what keeps people interested in the news. Recently, the headlines have included gun violence tragedies that have shattered the country. Reports about firearms are often negative, though, you have to remember that a gun is machine, a machine that sneaked its way into the constitution, allowing citizens the right to bear arms. But all those negative headlines have got the world wondering whether an increase in regulations will really do the trick of terminating the violence. I find myself with many others, in between safety and holding on to what is my right.

Gun control has always been a heated topic in this country, and as more issues involving guns arise, the more heated it gets. This was especially seen after the Las Vegas mass shooting where 58 people died and 515 more were injured after a 64- year old man opened fire into a crowd during a concert. This devastating event should be enough for people to realize that more gun control laws should be placed around the country because most guns like large capacity guns are not needed for recreational use, gun control laws will lower the amount of mass shootings, and finally they will also lower the homicide/suicide rates. Although the other side may claim that owning guns is a protected by the second amendment, there is nothing in the

Gun control is a controversial issue in the United States right now. Especially because all the shootings that have taken place lately, such as, the shooting in California last week where a shooter killed four people trying to break into a school and the Las Vegas shooting where fifty-nine people were killed and more than five hundred were injured. There was also the Texas church shooting where at least twenty-six were killed and twenty wounded ranging from five to seventy-five years old. However, this time two locals heard the gun fire so they grabbed a rifle and began their pursuit causing the shooter to wreck his vehicle. Just like in this example many lives have been saved by a gun.

As a country, we do not realize the impact guns have on us. The current law states that there are restrictions on the ownership of certain types of firearms (Findlaw 2). The current law is a good idea, however, many people have found ways to bend the rules. Without strict regulations, many people will continue to break the law by purchasing illegal weapons. “NFA firearms or devices, owners must go through extensive background checks, purchase a tax stamp for the manufacture of the firearm or device” (Findlaw 1). This refers directly to citizens having to go through tests to see if they are capable of possessing a gun. The process of buying a gun is much too simple for your ordinary person to obtain. “More Americans have been killed by guns since 1963 than all deaths combined in U.S. World Wars” (Huffpost 1). We lost nearly 1.2 million men in World War I and II, while losing 1.4 million innocent lives within the U.S. This is sad, as many of these deaths could have been prevented with stricter laws and harsher punishments.

Japan is one of the strictest countries about firearms. No one is allowed to own a rifle or assault rifle. The Japanese community is allowed only to own shotguns and air rifles, but the process to own one of these is a very long and hard process to finish. What this has to do with America is to give an example that you wouldn't need a firearm to create chaos bringing up the controversy about gun control. Because so many U.S.

Though some regulation for firearms are absolutely necessary, it would be imbecilic to say that firearms should be more regulated as if they were a privilege instead of a natural right. Gun control is a term that calls for the control and regulation of firearms owned by individual people. The often justifications for gun control by legislators who support it, is that guns are inherently bad in nature and that society should limit them as much as possible. However the issue is not the weapon being used, it is the individual who is using the weapon to begin with. Therefore it is for this reason in particular that gun control should not be as proposed by most left wing legislation.
