The Second Amendment provides US citizens with the right to bear arms and should include the right to own assault weaponry. The Second Amendment is a right for all American citizens, not a privilege. The two strongest reasons for citizens to own assault weapons are self-defense and defense against tyranny. The Second Amendment allows for US Citizens to legally protect themselves, their families and their homes. Assault weapons in the hands of law abiding citizens can make the difference between life and death; therefore they should be included in the Second Amendment.
In the world we live in today, the debate about gun control and the banning of assault weapons has been an ongoing battle with the people and the government. Assault weapons are defined as any automatic and semiautomatic military firearms utilizing an intermediate-power cartridge, designed for individual use (“Assault Weapon”). This controversial topic has been around for decades and is not only an issue in the United States, but all around the world. The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms and was adopted on December 15, 1791, as part of the first ten amendments contained in the Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment was based partially on the right to keep and bear arms in English common law and was influenced by the English Bill of Rights of 1689. It states “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (“The 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution”). This amendment allows citizens the right to purchase and own firearms, but many people believe that assault weapons should not be included within this right.
In 1994, Congress passed an assault weapons ban that made it illegal to privately own or sell specific types of fully and semi-automatic weapons that were manufactured to kill people in war, or by police forces. It also banned the possession and sale of high capacity magazines. The bill expired in 2004, and the Republican Congress and Bush Administration refused to extend its provisions. Today, Republicans actually oppose reinstating the assault weapons ban
United States is a country that has problems with gun control, and this issue has many debates between whether or not people should be allowed to carry a gun on them. This free county not only for speech and religion, but also allows people to have the right to bear arms. The Second Amendment of the United States was written by our Founding Fathers,“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (Government). The main purpose of the Second Amendment when our Founding Fathers wrote this amendment was to help the American citizens to defend themselves from the government at that time, and other countries from invading their properties. However,
The history of the second amendment and the laws that have come after are significant, dating back to 1971, when the Bill of Rights was ratified to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is a list of amendments that gives rights to individuals and limits government power. The second amendment states “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” So, the original writing and intent of the second amendment was geared to militia and military only, and it did not address a specific type of weapon. The second amendments intent for individual Americans did not come into question until 1822. A Kentucky court case indicted a man for carrying a sword concealed in a cane. The man was fined $100.00. But it wasn’t until 1856, that the second amendment was affirmed by the US Supreme Court, that the ownership of a gun was extended to individuals as a right.
The second amendment clearly gives Americans the “right to bear arms” which led to the founding of our country (“The Constitution of the United States,” Amendment 2). Gun advocates believe the new legislation will separate them from their rights because putting laws on their firearms will be against Amendment II. The right to bear arms for self-defense is protected in all states as well as the U.S. Constitution.
The Second Amendment states that “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”.1 It is important to understand that the Second Amendment was created in order to allow the American people to form militias in response to a tyrannical government attempting to suppress the American way of life. In order for Americans to form militias, they must uphold their freedom to bear arms as a
The second amendment of United States constitution said “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. This amendment was embraced on December 15, 1791, taking in consideration that American citizens have a natural right to self-defense and they can help to accomplish the following purposes:
The Second Amendment to the Constitution gave United States citizens the right to bear arms. Although, the Second Amendment stated: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms. However, the framers could not foresee the type of violence we have in our cities today. Innocent citizens have and are being brutally killed due to this amendment. Stricter gun control laws must be enacted to receive these types of weapons.
The second Amendment gives the citizens the right to bear arms or to protect themselves.
The Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution has ten amendments in the first part. The 2nd amendment in the Bill of Rights is The Right to Keep and Bear Arms. The 2nd amendment The Right to Keep and Bear Arms states that “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (USConstitution). The 2nd second amendment allows any United States citizen to own any type of arm. It allows you to be armed whenever and wherever you want. The 2nd amendment has no regulations on what type of arms you can own, you can own an arm ranging from a small handgun to a powerful machine gun. Gun Control affects thousands of people in today's society; people
Second Amendment is people have the right to keep and bear arms. Second Amendment was written in way back eighteenth century when people needed protection from British. Thousands of people are losing their lives each year. People have used guns most likely to rob people, suicide, and murder people for their own revenge or either for no reason and they have least likely used the guns for hunting, target shooting, social reasons, self-defense. Now a day’s American citizen does need to own a gun for their self-defense or protection because police is there for them. The right to bear arms is not applicable in twenty first century because people have been using guns for revenge, robbing houses, banks, and to kill people for no reason.

First, opponents of the ban of assault weapons claim that the second amendment protects their right to possess assault weapons. According to the second amendment, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" (Strasser). American tradition that lasted for many years would be infringed upon as more gun control laws would violate the right to bear arms. The second amendment also protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense (District of Columbia V. Heller). Furthermore, it was intended to protect the right of gun ownership of all men so they can be prepared to form a military to retain peace and defend their country at any time. Adam Winkler said, ”A 1792 federal law required that every man eligible for militia service own a gun and ammunition suitable for military service, report for frequent inspection of their guns, and register their gun ownership of public records” (Winkler).
Today I saw a story on the news, about a 22-year old boy in California who went on a murder-spree and killed 6 people before taking his own life. His motive, you ask? Because he was still a virgin. Because he wanted to punish every woman for rejecting him and every sexually-active man for having a better life than he did. But the worst part is that this wasn’t the first time. This wasn’t the first time a person woke up in the morning and decided they were going to take innocent lives because they weren’t happy with their own. 121. That’s the number of attempted mass shootings that haven taken place in the United States this year alone. 475 people murdered and 1 870 injured in 154 days. This is what America’s gun crisis looks like, and this
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The constitution is clearly saying all citizens have the right to be able to own and carry a weapon or firearm. On June 26, 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the United States Supreme Court held in a 5-4 decision that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home and within federal enclaves (Cornell 1). This is showing how our founding fathers supported the right to bear arms.
Imagine somebody breaking into your home with the intentions of hurting you and your family and trying to take all your valuables that you own in your house, and not having anything to protect your loved ones. Without the protection of a firearm, the intruder could injure or kill all members within the household easily. In the United States, according to the Bill of Rights, a citizen has the right to bear arms, however, recently people have started to believe that guns only incite violence and therefore gun laws need to be more strict. Although, If you own the firearm for the right reasons and go through the process of having a carrying license, then that is within your rights to protect yourself and be able to own the gun. Therefore,
The second amendment allows citizens to legally own and carry their own gun. Because guns are legal for ordinary people to hold, there are a lot of guns on the market, gun business becomes a big part of the U.S. economy. However, our country is always highlighted in the world news because of assault weapons, a lot of shooting incidents have occurred in recent years, such as mass shooting in Las Vegas and Florida which caused serious casualties. So whether assault weapons should be banned has become a hot and controversial topic. In my opinion, though occasionally happened gunfire events took many people’s life and had a terrible influence in society, most American people think America is a safe and good place to live, the overall situation of our society is stable and reliable. Maintaining the status quo and let people have rights of holding guns is the safest and most secured way for our county.
