Have you at any point felt terrified and unprotected? You know, that feeling you get when you 're strolling through a terrible piece of town alone and you understand that your telephone just kicked the bucket and there 's nobody around to hear you scream if something happened? Presently envision feeling that way wherever you go, constantly. This is the truth that we Joined States nationals would be living in if our legislature were to execute add up to firearm control. Completely there should be some control, and no uncertainty more stringent directions to possess and convey a firearm than we have now, yet removing weapons from all of us together would be a disaster! The crime rates here in the United States have been on the ascent for a …show more content…
Things being what they are, this should be a normal result of firearm control, however a great many people don 't think sufficiently far past the words "weapon" and "control" to acknowledge it. When you do stop and consider it however, the hoodlums who are carrying out violations now are the ones aside making this an applicable theme of dialog in any case. They are the ones who are either accessing certain weapons that are now unlawful as well as the ones who are utilizing lawful weapons wrongfully. If not for them slighting laws and causing these crime rates to go up, weapon control would not be being referred to. To actualize firearm control, would mean putting considerably advance confinements on the business, purchases, owning and conveying of weapons. This would do two distinct things, neither of which would help the circumstance with crime rates at all. Above all else it would remove firearms from those of us upstanding natives who do comply with the laws put forward to us by our administration since we would realize that having a weapon would be illegal. In the meantime, however, lawbreakers will be unlawfully getting firearms similarly as they illegally do numerous different things now. Due to this
According to Nicholas Kristof’s article “our blind spot about guns” gun control is a lot like cars regulation such that if we can regulate cars we can regulate guns. It took a lot of time and effort but thanks to regulations cars are safer than they were many years ago, and the same is very possible with guns. We need to keep our country safe. The first steps to gun control are improving on background checks and also requiring trigger locks on all guns.
With gun related crimes steadily increasing, the spotlight has been on a solution to cease firearm problems. Firearms have been around for hundreds of years, and they are included in self-defense, sport, show, and unfortunately crime. The danger of the situation immediately escalades when there is a firearm involved. A plan to fix these issues has been talked about and looked at throughout the recent years, but there are many different aspects you have to look at when trying to find a solution for this problem. However, not all gun related situations are at fault, for most people follow the law, using and collecting the guns for sporting, collecting, and self-defense purposes. The second amendment in the constitution gives citizens of the United states the right to bear arms. Areas of concern that can be focused on to prevent future danger in firearm situations are gun control laws, process undergone
When it comes to gun control, a considerable number of people assume it is the guns that cause the deaths that mass shootings and firearm crimes see. However, there shall never be a direct focus on the firearms themselves, but instead a focus on those who are using said weapons. Take a moment to stop and ask yourself, will a handgun kill somebody if it is just sitting on a table. No, that will never happen, to cause a gunshot to go off a being has to handle the firearm. The last thing needed in America is for mentally unstable people or a convicted felon/criminal being the one behind the trigger. Mistakenly Americans want control on the guns themselves, instead of also controlling the people buying the arms. Which the way to manage who gains access to weapons is to simply make the background checks more vigorous. Along with background checks, make new stipulations on who can buy and handle weapons and keep track of all gun sales, this includes private dealers.
From 1988 to 2001, the usage of anti-depressant drugs in the general public increased by four-hundred percent (Swanson). The mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary took place in December of 2012, and during 2014, firearms were used in 88 percent of teen homicides, and 41 percent of teen suicides (“Suicidal Teens”). On February 28th, 2017, the Trump administration repealed a firearms regulation that prevented mentally disabled persons from owning guns. At the same time, teenage mental illness is on the rise, specifically in cases of depression and anxiety. A report from the Surgeon General shows that over 90 percent of adolescents that committed either suicide or homicide have or had a mental disability. Mental disabilities such as depression and anxiety put teenagers at a high risk for homicides and suicides. Teenagers who are stressed due to school, lack of parenting, puberty, bullying, and other factors can develop depression, anxiety or another mental illness. Allowing these teens easy access to firearms proves time and time again to be very dangerous. In some cases, the families of these teens have never been assessed to see if they can responsibly store firearms. The only background check performed is on the owner of the firearm, meaning that a person may own the weapon even if another family member living with them legally cannot. Loose gun control laws allow families with physiologically ill children to have access to firearms, without first checking to see if the disabled children in the home are responsible enough to be around said firearms. Repealing gun control laws instated by the Obama administration will cause an increase in adolescent firearm-related homicides, suicides, and tragedies similar to the one at Sandy Hook Elementary.
From School shootings to Movie theaters and concerts, we the people of the United States have noticed tremendous amounts Massacres going on in our country. All of this violence raises many big questions and plenty of controversy in our country: Do we need a ban or some sort of control on guns? Many people like to argue that this violates their rights and the second amendment of the U.S. constitution telling us that the people have the right to bear arms. Many people like to argue that guns don’t kill people, but that people kill people. In the past year there has been 372 mass shootings in 2015 in the U.S. Approximately 33,636 deaths due to firearms each year. Many other countries do not have a big issue on homicides due to
Secondly, if Gun Control laws were made extremely strict numerous people would still be able to receive guns through illegal gun control. As stated in NavjoCode “Illegal guns are a huge trade and business in the United States. Even if gun control laws were made much more strict, these criminals would still be able to obtain illegal weapons and use them to inflict harm and commit violent crimes. The only difference would be that the people who are not criminals would not have the ability to defend themselves” This quote shows that if we enforced these laws there are multiple ways to get these gun back. .“The illegal gun trade often takes its form in robbery and casual exchanges of weapons. Young criminals can steal guns from either homes that have guns, or from gun stores themselves, and thereby arm themselves. Also, many who have caused gun violence received their first gun from a family member, or a fellow gang member, instead of
Rarely does something good ever end up as breaking news. No one ever reports things like, Carol stopped for that stop sign, way to follow the law! Or Jimmy used the crosswalk. Yay! No- that is just not how our world today works. I suppose, all the negativity is what keeps people interested in the news. Recently, the headlines have included gun violence tragedies that have shattered the country. Reports about firearms are often negative, though, you have to remember that a gun is machine, a machine that sneaked its way into the constitution, allowing citizens the right to bear arms. But all those negative headlines have got the world wondering whether an increase in regulations will really do the trick of terminating the violence. I find myself with many others, in between safety and holding on to what is my right.
Over the past two decades, gun control has raised controversy upon the American people and changed the way people foresee firearms. Most of these controversies still continue to be brought up today. The Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (Brooks np).” In January of 2016, Obama stated his gun control plan that would more strictly enforce existing laws including firearms (Smith np). People deserve the right to have firearms for the ability to protect, defend, and entertain themselves and others. The biggest controversy, including firearms is the way people are introduced and informed about them. People are given the thought that “guns kill people,” when in all reality, “people kill people.” Although there are around 10,000 people killed in the United States each year from firearms, guns are not the main conflict in the killings, the people behind the guns are (Brooks np).
“It’s the people who get it in their minds to perpetuate evil, to go and murder innocent people, to wreak havoc. They are the problem; not the guns” (Keijzer). The amount of crimes happening today will just increment with stricter gun control laws on the grounds that there is a higher compulsion to steal guns. Criminals as of now don't take after the law. If you take away firearms, you will only be removing them from the hands of the guiltless. Mass shooters don’t follow the law. Clause.org said, “Studies show that most criminals come by their guns illegally, often by theft or underground purchases.” This enables them to totally sidestep stringent individual verifications and other regulations. The general population will tune in and give their weapons yet not the criminals. Many ask, "if you take away our guns how will we protect ourselves?" The only thing that can beat a firearm is another firearm. Rather than banning guns, the weapon laws ought to be fixed, and all the rights of America must be changed and enhanced a bit so the administration doesn't need to stress over repaying the subjects for their rights. The reason it is lawful to possess a firearm is on the grounds that the U.S. is a powerful nation, and if the privilege is taken away then it will never again be named a powerful nation. Many feel that a
Americans own approximately 270 million guns, which gives America the highest rate of gun ownership with, 89 guns for every 100 people (Carp). From this shocking statistic, many can see how difficult it would be to put regulations on guns that American citizens already own. A limited number of American citizens are looking for Congress to pass national legislation to put bans on certain guns that many American citizens already own. Gun regulations should not get put in action, because federal officials, such as cops, would have a very hard time finding all of the guns that Americans already own that Congress makes illegal from the regulations and would be dangerous. Gun control again should not get put in place because Americans will still break this law just like some American citizens do not pay any attention at all to the laws already in place. Congress should focus on the individuals that own guns and/or want to buy guns, not the certain types of guns that American Citizens already own (Smith).
October 1, 2017 was supposed to be a day of enjoyment, of excitement for those attending country music star Jason Aldean’s concert in Las Vegas. This excitement quickly faded as 64 year old Stephen Paddock opened fire with modified semi-automatic weapons from his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Hotel killing 58 and injuring 489 innocent people. After reaching his hotel room the police found a dead Paddock from a self inflicted gunshot wound and 24 firearms, 23 semi-automatic rifles and one handgun, plus 19 more firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition at his home. 24, this man was able to acquire twenty-four firearms and modifications without alerting law enforcement in any way. In the past 12 months Paddock had purchased 33 weapons. First nobody needs to be able to purchase that large amount of weapons in such a short timespan, also the workers at multiple gun shops recalled Paddock purchasing some of these weapons from them and their response was that he had passed the necessary background checks. Obviously these background checks are not efficient enough or these innocent people would not be victim of the worst mass shooting in the history of the United States. Now you would think following this atrocious act of evil Washington would be quick to enact a stricter form of gun control that would attempt to prevent an event as horrible as this from happening again, but no they have done what has become pattern. The flags are lowered to half mast, everyone
Imagine you are enjoying a drink with your friend at a bar, and suddenly out of nowhere an armed gunman starts shooting with the intention to kill. Then, there are more gunshots, and all is quiet except for a wife who is tending to her husband’s wound. You look up to see the bartender holding a smoking pistol. You don’t yet realize that you, and everyone in the bar would have died if not for him. Now imagine you are in that situation and the bartender doesn’t have a gun, and everyone dies a helpless death. This is what will happen if gun control is put into action. If gun control is put into effect it will leave responsible law\-abiding citizen defenseless, because the bad guys will always have guns, because they don’t follow laws. When we begin to realize how concealed carry offers us protection, helps stop crime, and that guns aren’t the problem, people are we will realize that gun control needs to be stopped.
Should the sale, and possession of gun be banned in the United States? Gun control in the United States, for a while, has been a highly controversial topic. Some people believe that guns should be banned to allow for less people to have them in their possession, while some people believe that we should leave the issue of guns alone and keep our current gun laws because being able to bear arms is a constitutional right. Through an ethical lens we will be looking at the issue from the perspective of a criminologist, a anti gun control advocate, and a college professor. To reinforce that the sale, and possession of guns for citizens of the United States should not be banned.
Every state has their vast money-making, tourist cities such as Las Vegas, or Orlando. Just the same states also have smaller, less attractive, more residential cities that outsiders may never know the name of. This goes the same for the citizens of that city, and where they work as well as what schools they attend. However the average person has heard of the city of Aurora or Columbine High School located in Colorado, and just about anyone can talk about Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Every city listed so far both populated and rural have had mass shootings with a minimum 12 deaths. Las Vegas, the most recent occurrence, resulted in 59 people killed and over 500 injured at the hands of a singular gunman (Los Angeles Times Staff). The lack of action by the government is unjust and immoral. The proper and moral action is to conduct strict gun control laws in the United States to prevent further catastrophes and mass murders at the hands of a gunman.
Columbine, Sandy Hook, and most recently a country music festival in Las Vegas, are just a few of the gun related tragedies that even people living under rocks have heard about. The amount of gun violence recorded in public spaces since the 40s is outrageous, yet it has become so normalized in our society that each time an incident occurs nothing but a hashtag on twitter is created. Not only is this topic not talked about as it should be, but acquiring a gun continues to be an easy task. Among the gun owners across America, around 40 percent did not go through a background check or have a permit to obtain their firearm. This can be traced back to issues such as the “gun show loophole” and other ways of private sale or transfer. The problem with this is not that people are able to get ahold of guns but that guns are falling into the hands of the wrong people and are used for the wrong reasons.
