Since the founding days American gun laws have been used as a part of some American lifestyles. When the founding fathers wrote amendment 2 of the United States Constitution, guns were not as technologically as advanced as they are now. Giving all United States Citizens the right to bear arms seemed like a fair idea when guns fired 1-2 rounds per minute; but today some gun fire up to 900 rounds per minute and can cause severe damage. Gun law restrictions has been a constant topic of discussion amongst legislators and citizens over the past 5 years. America should impose more restrictive gun laws because they pose a serious threat to safety of Americans.
Mass Shootings have increased in America over the past 20 years. Innocent bystanders and civilians are the victims of a shooting rampage caused by one or more suspects. On October 1, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada a man by the name of the of Stephen Paddock opened fire on concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest. He fired thousands of rounds in just a matter of minutes using high powered advanced tech military grade weapons. After the shooting the uproar about the ability to purchase such high-powered weapons arose again and citizens called for gun laws to be revised. The semi-automatic weapons can now be altered to function as a fully automatic weapon. Assault rifles should only be permitted for the use in war combat only. Non-military personnel should have the right to own an assault rifle. In an article titled “Disarming the
My claim is that gun control laws should be enacted. Its really not so hard for an American to get a gun and use it to harm others. Millions of people in the USA die or are hurt from from guns. Guns aren't making us safer there making us less safe. While there are countless reasons why they should be enacted the main ones are that lots of people die, people use guns illegally without licenses to hurt others and because people commit suicide.
In todays American society, it is undeniable that gun violence is increasingly becoming problamatic. The issue has become so prominent, it has motivated our communities to realize that something must be done; this needs to end. Human instinct moves us to eliminate the issue by taking the issue away. This notion leads to the common misconception that stricter gun control is the answer. If changing laws and policies regarging more stringent gun control will not solve the problem, what will?
You are driving back to your home in a cream colored Rolls Royce after a hard day at work. You can’t wait to go home, to see your beautiful wife and your lovable kids. As you cruise down the road, your headlights illuminate the pitch black dark of the night. You pass enormous skyscrapers that reach for the sky then, you have to stop at a red stoplight that glows in a bright lava red color. As you wait for the light to turn green, a tall man in a black trench coat and with black sunglasses that blends in with the night, smashes the driver’s side window of your car. The unknown stranger reaches his hand in and unlocks the door from the inside. As soon as you undo your seat belt to try to make run for it, the stranger opens the door and drags you out onto the
As of October 27, 2017, in the United States there has been a total of 273 mass shootings. The most devastating mass shooting was on October 1, 2017 at the Las Vegas Strip when Stephen Paddock shoot down on a crowd of people at a country song concert from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. This shooting left 58 people dead and 515 people injured. Despite the amount of people left dead or injured from the Las Vegas Strip Massacre, majority of the Congress agreed that it is still 'premature' to be discussing legislative solutions for gun control. Unfortunately, America is repeating their same mistake by not passing a stricter gun regulation. It is time for America to change their history by placing stricter gun restriction to protect their citizens.
In a perfect world, one would imagine no violence and no use of weapons. However in the world we live in today we can agree that violence and weapons are unavoidable in America. “In 2014, ATF released firearms trace data for year 2013. It traced more than 336,000 crime guns and identified the sources of 166,426 crime guns in 2013. Among them, 47,803 crime guns or 29% of all crime guns identified crossed state lines, indicating that cross-jurisdiction gun buying accounts for a significant portion of crime guns” (Lee). From state to state, gun laws are diverse and while some argue that there is evidence for guns being an asset to their safety, others believe that these laws need to be redefined and adjusted to ensure their safety. According to the nonprofit project the Gun Violence Archive, the number of Americans killed by terrorism in the last decade was 24 while the number of Americans killed by guns in the last decade was 280,024 (Koper). From just this comparison, one can clearly see that a vast majority of the deaths in our country result from guns. It is one’s belief that gun control should be adjusted and policies should be set forward that ensures the safety of their citizens in a constitutional way while respecting their rights. Each state has the right to obtain their own laws for guns, however in respect to our country as a whole, gun laws in each state should also consider the wellbeing of neighboring states to further enhance security. The community may say that
According to United States’s current death toll So far in 2017 there has been more than 9000 people killed by those who have the right to be able to carry concealed weapons. If this issue doesn’t get stopped soon more and more innocent people will continue to keep on getting killed by guns. If enough people stand up for this law than people would not have to worry about letting their kids go to school without losing their life. Gun restrictions in the United States should be tightened because if not so more and more people will be killed due to people being able to carry concealed weapons. There are many reasons why gun restrictions should be tightened so are some examples on why they should be tightened. According to Katie Zezima, journalist from the Washington Post, in an article from October 20, “A Boston University school of Public health discovered that states that give law enforcement officials wide discretion to decide who can receive a concealed weapon carry has lower gun deaths than those who don’t” (A shall state is a state that allows residents to carry concealed weapons without a license, May-issue states requires the public to have a license to carry concealed weapons. “Louisiana, a shall-issue state, had a firearm homicide rate of 9.96 per members of Congress must come together to address the epidemic of gun violence so as to make sure tragedies such as the one at Virginia Tech and so many others never happen
Guns have many uses in the United States, for example, they are using guns to protect civilians in the law enforcement department, they can also be used to protect a property or even for self-defense in a life-death situation. They are so needed that even the constitution states it on the 2nd amendment. However, due to many mass massacres in the last decades, especially taking account the mass shooting in California and Texas in the last 2 months, many opinions have lead the gun regulation into a controversy. However, something that must be considered into account in this debate is the political system the United States enforce, which is Federalism, and many would think, what has to be this with the gun regulation? The answer is that Federalism allows every state to enforce different laws in their jurisdiction as long it does not cause any conflict with the constitution. One example, could be the gun regulation itself because all states follow the permission to use guns, but they change the way they can obtain one. For these reasons, the main objective of this essay will be to analyze the different regulations in California, one of the states with most regulations when it comes to guns, and Arizona, one of the states with the less regulated gun usage. The main categories that will be examined are the types of restrictions and people who can and cannot own or carry a gun, their requirements that they demand in order to have or use a gun and finally, their rules that they have
Men have used firearms to provide personal protection, to put food on the table, to enforce or defy the law for centuries. Then in more recent times’ the invention and mass production made controlling firearms more difficult, which is why laws on them have grown.
Controversy has raised in the late, as many activist attempt to push policies that would “regulate” gun use. Many stand with it, yet many others oppose such policies from being implemented, as they are seen as restrictions to their rights. Filmmaker, Michael Moore, has made such a proposal that would regulate gun use in the United States, rendering the second amendment obsolete. However modest it may seem, this so called 28th amendment infringes the individual's right to bear arms, a right that has been in place for over two hundred years. Such a scheme threatens the rights of many constitutional carry states, like that of the state of Arizona.
In the past few years there has been many mass shootings carried out by mental people. Guns don’t kill, people kill. Mexico has one of strictest gun control laws in the world and yet they’ve massive shootings. Mexico has only one legal gun store compared with at least 63,709 legal gun stores and pawn shops in the United States. Strict gun control laws do not work in Mexico, and will not work in the United States. We should not lose the right to bear arms because it keeps us safe, less crime, and it’s a right that the government shouldn’t take.
One of the biggest controversies that people avoid talking about is gun control. This complex issue seems to have almost equivalent reasons for why we should have gun control or rights. On one hand, obtaining a gun can mean self-defense and protection for yourself or others; but on the other, it can also mean more accidents or mass shootings from inexperienced or depraved individuals. In my academic years since high school, I have avoided talking about this topic as I though the solution was simple: keep gun rights, but with even more strict guidelines. Being the liberal I am, I have always sided with gun rights, but as I’ve done research I now choose to believe that gun control is the best way to go for our society’s safety because by keeping guns accessible for citizens, we will continue to see more accidental or mass shootings.
Although there have been a drastic number of people injured by misused guns, guns provide protection and the government should stay away from the second amendment and not pass anymore laws concerning gun control. Supporters of gun control always try and make the point that the second amendment does not give a license to the general public to own a firearm. The second amendment only gives that right to a well-regulated militia. A well-regulated militia is the safety of a free state which also happens to be the right of the people to own and bear arms. Gun control should not be the solution to higher crime rates, but more prisons, police, harsher punishments and protection. Guns are not the problem, firearms don’t kill people, people, kill people (Otfinoski 45).
America has come a long way since its independence in 1776. As time has gone on, society has changed in a variety of ways. It is human nature to adjust to adverse situation. Therefore as society has change adjustments are expected as well. However, this does not always ring true through our government. Letting go of the past is easier said then done to some. So while some states are more accepting of time and have adjusted their laws accordingly, others have struggled to followed suit. For example, the law for the right of same sex marriage has changed drastically over time. Originally same sex marriage was illegal across the whole country. However, today we find our self in a country where 37 out of the 50 states acknowledge same-sex marriage. If the United States is a united country why is this legal in some states however, it is illegal in others? The same could be said in regards to the Selective Service Military Act. A sexist act that not only strips men of they freedom of will but does not include or promote equality. Why aren’t women mentioned in this act if America supports equality for men and women? The last of the laws I will be discussing are the current gun laws. Although gun laws may appear ethical being that they provide protection as well as freedom amongst individuals, I personally feel that the second amendment, stating our right to bear arms, needs to be re-evaluated and altered for the protection of the population which does not support morals of the
Gun control laws are policies that the government uses to regulate how guns are used, manufactured, and possessed. There are many laws and many different restrictions on guns for civilian use but there is also the 2nd amendment which supports the right to bear arms. There are major punishments for people if they do not abide by the laws put in place. Government officials should ease off their stance on creating more gun control because it is beginning to violate the second amendment right as an American citizen. People even feel safer when they are carrying a gun because it gives them the confidence they need to where if they get attacked they would be able to defend themselves.
Following another horrific shoooting in Las Vegas last month the White House and the United States has faced inquiries about whether President Trump and Congress would support the stringent gun legislation.
