Violence
In recent years gun violence has increased significantly in various parts of the world. There are more cases of children and young adults engaging in violence or getting caught in the crossfire. Is there anyone to blame ? There has been debate over whether gun laws are strict enough and what else can be done to reduce such acts from occurring. With more lives being affected on a regular basis, more concerns arise as to how people can live safe lives when guns are being used in increasing numbers. It is shameful to say that almost every day you hear about some sort of gun violence affecting people either in your hometown or in another part of the world. It's sad isn't it ? where i live in chicago so fourth
Years ago gun violence had its issues but nothing like what is going on it current society. While there are events that have occurred that seem shocking, sad and pointless, similar actions have occurred decades ago. Wow except they didn’t seem to occur as frequently as they do today. Gun violence has grown into an international crisis hmm . Some people feel we should ban guns altogether, while others feel this would be impossible. Getting rid of guns may help remedy the issue but may not be enough to make the problem go away. What about other parts of the world hmm. However
There are certain parts of the world that has already banned guns and similar weapons. The problem here is people can still smuggle them in. Other parts of the world have certain types of guns that are illegal for citizens to have in their possession. Eliminating guns from the equation is just a part of the problem. You have people that are not willing to talk about their problems and jump to conclusions way too soon. Meaning, people get angry over little things or something that you should be able to laugh about. Then, you have situations in which someone is threatened, but things escalate too far quickly.
Gun violence has problems on different levels including within local communities, politically and international. It is hard to say where improvements have been made. Some cities around the world may report a reduction in gun activity. Others unfortunately see an increase that has hurt their part of the world
An alarming 11,644 people in the United States have been killed by a gun this year, and it’s only October (Gun Violence Archive). Have you or someone you know ever been affected by gun violence? How much longer will it take until our leaders take a stand to stop it? Gun violence is violence committed with a gun involved, and it’s a growing problem that is causing many deaths and injuries all over the U.S. Gun violence in the United States poses a serious threat to the future of American citizens. It is a problem that is making the U.S. more dangerous and will ultimately make our society more violent in the future, so the elected leaders of our country need to pass laws that will ensure we are
Since 2013 there have been 268 school shootings in the United States alone (Everytown for Gun Safety, 2017). School gun violence is becoming increasingly probable. It is imperative that our government and our citizens come together to create a solution and implement a plan to prevent and stop the occurrence of school gun violence. The solution, for some, is to bring more guns into the picture by arming teachers, principals, and other school officials, or place armed police officers at school sites (LaPierre, 2015). For others, the solution is to make even stricter laws regarding gun use or to get rid of these weapons altogether. These certainly are drastic options; I must say that I do believe the true solution is to increase the focus on mental health services and by extension, mental health awareness. There is simply not enough focus on the mental health of our youth and of our students. Mental health services are the most important step to making schools safer, because this solution touches the entire problem of violence at its root level.
Gun violence has been a hot topic these past years. Guns are being used for crime rather than for safety. Every person holds a different opinion on how guns should be managed. Some say that gun laws should be stricter: others say that the laws already in place have enough control over the people. With the rise of gun violence people are wondering what the future will hold. On average, 90 people die from gun violence every single day (Brady Campaign). That means that in a year, at least 32,850 people die from acts of gun violence. Whatever our government has done to stop gun violence is not working. Gun related crimes have reached an all- time high. The nation is waiting for a solution to this ongoing phenomenon. Now is the time for new or upgraded gun policies
Do you feel Gun violence has taken a bad effect on taxpayers? I do, because even if your family member hasn’t been shot or killed, it still hurt you in a way. When a person has been killed in a certain state, and the killer is a part of that state. The state happens to give away four Thousand dollars to help cover the funeral costs. If you didn’t know, that’s coming from our taxes. When a person have been shot and wounded, your taxes are being taking and helping paying for medication to keep that person out of pain. Even when the killer gets caught, your taxes will be still be a risk, because killers has to eat too.
Gun violence has been around for centuries and there have been many mass shootings, homicides and suicides. There is always the argument on “do guns kill people” or “do people kill people”? What people really need to be looking at is the problem which is people stocking up on guns and not knowing how to properly handle them and all the mass shootings that are taking place. As a country, people need to be coming up with solutions instead of doing nothing.
An ongoing and highly debated social problem that continues to grow in our society today is the gun control epidemic. Gun violence in the United States is a national epidemic. Many people take advantage of guns using and manipulating the tool with hardly any thought. Countless lives have been lost due to fact that people have been able to obtain firearms legally or illegally and have taken the notion to be judge, jury and executioner in holding ones live in their hands. This is a common issue that will continue if action is not taken as a nation to try and stop it. Gun violence can lead many citizens to believe that no place is deemed safe anymore and recent tragedies that have taken place in United States holds up that statement. In
According to the 2010 study there were 31,672 fatalities due to firearms. The following year the number went up to 32,163. Homicides that are a result from guns are relatively high in the States and they take more than eleven thousand lives a year. According to Vision for Humanity, an initiative for the Economics and Peace, the United States is ranked 99 out of 162 countries in the 2013 global peace index, homicide rates and violent crimes are among the various criteria used to determine the ranking (Vision of Humanity). Mass shootings at work places, schools, shopping malls and places of worship are happening in an alarming frequency. While the Newtown shooting is one of the horrific ones, it certainly isn’t the only one that happened in the last two years alone. There were several other mass shootings that took the lives of many all across America. While there are other significant problems in America that need our attention, in my opinion, increasing rate of Gun violence is the most significant problem in American that needs to be addressed.
Every year in the united states more than 30,000 people die from gun violence. Researchers say that gun violence is getting out of
During the past years gun violence has seen an enormous increase in various parts of the world and majority of the cases been reported in the United States. The case includes victims such as children, senior citizens and young adults engaging in violence or getting caught in the crossfires. The life of common people is being affected, people are concerned as to how they can live safe lives when guns are being used in increasing numbers. On an average, every day you hear about some sort of gun violence affecting people either in your hometown or in another part of the world. It is a shame for a country like United States to have such high
The Orlando nightclub shooting in Florida on June 12, 2016 was the single largest massacre in U.S history, taking the lives of 50 individuals, including the shooter himself, and injuring 53 others. This is one extreme example of the gun violence that has been occurring in this country, but mass shootings like this and the one at Newton in 2012 are only a small part of our gun violence issue. The everyday gun violence that takes place in cities all across the United States claims the lives of thousands every single year. According to The Guardian, 33,500 civilians die each year because of gun brutality- “that’s about 1 life every 15 minutes” (Beckett). Between the years of 1999 and 2013, there were 464,003 gun deaths in the U.S, about 58% of them were suicides 37% were homicides. (ProCon.org) Gun violence and the consequences of that violence, have become a real and dangerous problem in the U.S , why else would the CDC list the United States as having the highest rate of gun violence out of all developed countries today? (Gale Opposing Viewpoints) This issue is not just attributable to a single factor, there are several that play an important part in why gun violence is such an issue in the U.S, namely laws and poverty; and in these causes we can also find solutions.
Gun violence is a very serious matter that is affecting communities all over the United States. The crimes caused by guns affects everyone in some way, shape, or form. From losing loved ones to our neighborhoods not being safe anymore, the United States has the highest number of gun deaths per year. More importantly it affects the youth of the world in a negative way, leaving it emotionally or physically scarred, or even worse, dead. If we take a stand I believe we can put an end to gun violence and gun crimes once and for all.
As the daughter of a victim of gun violence I know what it is like to hear about this rising issue and instantly feel pained. Gun violence not only harms those that have been injured or killed, but it takes a lot from close relatives and friends. Within in the past few years it has become normal to hear about this act of violence occurring in America. According to GunViolenceArchive.org, there have been a total of 14,259 incidents in 2016 thus far. This is shocking because the year just began a few months ago and this number is extremely high. The big question is why is this number so high? The gun violence rate in America has inclined over the years and if nothing is being set in place to stop or control it, it will only get worse as the years continue. The Washington Post’s article, “Gun Violence in America is out of Control” is simply stating that the gun violence in America is out of hand and as citizens we need to be aware of this issue and keep that in mind when we are voting for our next president. (Washington Post) In Vox.com’s article, “Gun violence in America, in 17 maps and charts” express that America is one of the most violent countries in the world and gun violence is happening more frequently because of the easy access of guns. (Vox) Both sources recognize that gun violence in America has reached an all-time high, but I agree with Vox’s argument because
Now to get to the real issues at hand, and where the problems of today’s society stem from. Clinical Psychologist Ana Nogales, author of a few books and articles, says that the question that comes with the gun crime today is a question of mental health and gender. Nogales asks some important questions on her psychology website - Why do men resort to guns in order to be heard? Are we educating our children incorrectly? Is this also a topic of education? Could we have educational plans that teach our kids how to resolve conflicts from the time our child starts school? (Ana Nogales). These questions, while not necessarily in that order and along with a few others that apply, are very serious and viable in their meaning.
People all across the world are debating about whether to require the start of reducing gun violence. Guns have always been a part of American culture, even before we became the America we know today. In colonial times and the days of the Wild West, guns were an essential part of survival. They were needed to kill animals for food and to protect against unwanted trespassers and predators. However, in these modern times, because we have conveniences such as Hannaford and organized police systems, guns have gone from tools of necessity to novelty toys. For the most part, people own guns in this century for sporting reasons or to protect their families and home from intrusion. The simplicity of a gun and the lack of effort it requires owning
It is impossible not to open a newspaper, watch the television, or listen to the radio with out hearing about some type of gun violence. Perhaps the main reason for such high gun violence is that guns are so plentiful in the Unites States. In fact, there are sixty five million handguns in America ("The `facts' about Guns"). These guns contribute to an annual medical cost of fourteen billion dollars, which is spent solely on treating gun victims ("Handguns in America"). Not surprisingly, handguns are the cause of eighty percent of homicides, seventy percent of suicides, and almost every accidental shooting ("Youth and Violence"). Handgun violence is a problem that is easy for everyone to see. How to solve this predicament is another
