An unarmed Australian woman in her pyjamas was tragically shot late Saturday night by a Minneapolis police officer who had only been on the force for 2 years.

Justine Ruszczyk’s mistake was greeting police as you or I would in Australia, after she had reported what sounded like a woman being sexually assaulted in the alley behind her home in Minneapolis late Saturday night.

The 40-year-old outgoing yoga teacher and faith healer living in Minneapolis with her fiancé and his son, leaned into the driver’s window of the patrol car to address the officers who had responded to her call for help.

Newly recruited, Minneapolis Police officer Mohamed Noor, who was sitting in the passenger side of the vehicle, apparently saw or heard something that startled him. He impulsively drew and fired his gun across the chest of his partner, through the window, and struck Justine in the abdomen.

After 20 minutes of frantic CPR, Justine Ruszczyk suffered a painful death from a bullet wound to her stomach.

In 2016, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 64 cops were shot dead. Of those 21 were shot dead in deliberate ambushes.
