More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of restrictions on owning a gun has recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns easily.

Once every thirteen seconds an American uses a gun to protect themselves (Harris). Americans having to use their guns that frequently is not the ideal situation, but without having guns once every thirteen seconds a person would die from an act of violence. Gun control should not be stricter in the United States because, guns are an excellent source of protection, guns can lower crime rates, and gun control laws only affects law abiding citizens.

Throughout the past 20 years, the purchase of guns have increased drastically but at the same time, crimes with firearms are down a shocking 69% (Snyder). Gun control is often used to create laws for the intention of reducing gun injuries or death by gun and might involve background checks or creating difficulty to own a gun altogether. Some believe strict gun laws will help America reduce murder rates. However, others believe gun control will remove the right to bear arms as an individual. America needs to refrain from enforcing gun control because citizens have the constitutional right to own guns and gun control will fail to decrease murder rates which would better be decreased by a basic education of gun safety.

Many tragedies have occurred recently that have spurred the debate on whether or not we need tighter gun controls. On one side of the debate are the gun control supporters, who claim that the easy access to guns is the primary cause for high rates of crime plaguing the United States. On the other side are people who argue that gun laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns, since they will continue to get them illegally. Guns are used for protection when in the hands of people who obey the law. It is crucial to not hinder law-abiding citizen’s ability to possess firearms with stricter gun laws, since gun laws do not lower crime, and guns can keep people safe.

American citizens have had the right to own guns and have had easy access to them since the Constitution was written. Recently, the easy accessibility to guns and lack of strict gun laws have increased the homicide, suicide, burglary, and theft rates, but there could be other variables that affect these data as well. Gun laws, and the lack there of, have affected American society in countless ways by improving and worsening Americans’ way of life.

These weapons are the reason why the United States has such a high rate of violence even with such high wealth. Criminals should not have the access they currently have to such destructive weapons. As seen from the statistics in the article, violence from the misuse of gun privileges are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, much higher than knives and other weapons that are used to attack. Although guns are able to protect its owner, it does not justify the harm and danger that could establish. In addition, in 2016, researchers from across the United States reviewed more than 130 studies from 10 countries on gun control. The study did not look at only one specific scenario, but rather a variety of different kinds of gun control. The evidence is clear: “The simultaneous implementation of laws targeting multiple firearms restrictions is associated with reductions in firearm deaths.” Therefore, in order to help prevent the deaths of thousands of children, women, and men the US should enforce stricter, tougher gun control laws.

Especially because all the shootings that have taken place lately, such as, the shooting in California last week where a shooter killed four people trying to break into a school and the Las Vegas shooting where fifty-nine people were killed and more than five hundred were injured. There was also the Texas church shooting where at least twenty-six were killed and twenty wounded ranging from five to seventy-five years old. However, this time two locals heard the gun fire so they grabbed a rifle and began their pursuit causing the shooter to wreck his vehicle. Just like in this example many lives have been saved by a gun.

Many criminals retrieve guns by burglary breaking into someone home and stealing them. Buying them from gangs members or having someone else purchase in their name for them. Taking them from family member’s house with not the family member knowing. Gun control in america has been a problem for many years now. We have 24 hours in a day which may seem like a lot but it’s not. Most people either go to work for half of the day or they are enrolled in school which leaves us with only a limited amount of time when we get home. Most likely the people who do buy guns does neither of these two things. Guns should not be allowed to american citizens because you never know what they are pondering about using the gun for. The best part about not allowing guns for citizens to use is that the rate of robborys, break ins, or even murders will decrease in america. This will make the jobs of police officers easier and more efficient. Guns should only be used for the army so they can protect our country.
