The importance of the environment appears when many disconcerting events throughout the years have emerged: tsunami and flooding, drought and starving, pollution, declining animal populations and many others. Looking behind these events is make us realize that we have caused irreversible damaged, through our daily behaviors.
We now live in a modern, consumerist and largely urban existence throughout the developed world and we consume a lot of natural resources every day. ENVS course focuses on understanding cause and effect of social, economic and environmental impacts between our need and our product technologically and economically, and how to protect the environments in which we and others live. In ENVS class we do not learn just about the environment, but also about our health as a society in ensuring that no people or areas of life suffer as a result of, and also about examining the longer-term effects of the human activities and asking questions about how it improved and to ensure the quality of life for this and future generations. Teaching students about sustainability have been very important. It develops the knowledge, values, and worldviews required to make certain that there's enough for everyone, forever. It's different to other learning areas as it focuses on protecting natural environments and creating an ecologically and socially just world through informed action. Sustainability curriculum in CU Denver develops the capabilities, skills, and knowledge for
“Sustainability is a matter of long term development” (Fowler, J., Sept.24th), this is the simplest statement describes the word “sustainability” till the end of the third week lecture. After two weeks’ lecture classes and ESS lecture classes, the concept that “sustainability is not a certain technology or policy” (Introduction to Environment, Sustainability and Society, slide79) is founded in my mind. Mind Shift organization and professor Matthew Schnurr’s research taught me more specifically that sustainability is not only about the environment.
Like all things, technology has its good side and its bad side. Cars transport humans than they can do themselves walking. We no longer have to heat up water because with a twist of a knob it pours out for us. What that really cute shirt or shoes that you saw but can't seem to find them in any store? With a few clicks on your phone and you’ll have them shipped to your house any day u like, but did you know that all those things in some way increase each person's Carbon footprint or the amount of carbon dioxide our activities produce. Even though we can’t completely eliminate our carbon footprint we can help reduce it and influence others to join the mission by making small changes around our house, our daily lives out of the house and invite others to us; together we will help the earth be a better planet for all of us to live in.
Most parents would do anything for their children. If their child needs a new organ, pending their compatibility, they would give them theirs. Many parents work two or three dead end jobs just to ensure their child can go to college. So why does society not take the air that these children breath more serious? Most likely, because the problem does not come in a physical form. Air pollution does not come in the form of a giant two headed monster or a giant lump on your body. Air pollution is invisible to the human eye. To see it, special equipment from Nasa or other research facility would be required. But just because it’s not visible, does not mean it’s not present. Air pollution surrounds humans daily. It is caused by motor vehicles, planes, ships, energy plants, and much more. Humans cannot just take away automobiles or the energy plants. And humanity cannot eliminate all the pollution in the air. But pollution can be reduced to the point where it will decrease the number of stoke, asthma, and lung cancer. Society can reduce air pollution by making better use of vehicles, planting more trees, and decreasing energy use.
Pollution is a serious problem for humans and more importantly the earth. We have for decades been dealing with this problem and never have had a solution to this. Humans have found ways to control it but not to stop it. As we continue this dilemma we found out it’s only getting worse and we cannot find out what the real cause is. You can say it’s because of humans throwing trash on the floor or gas exhaust. So many reasons, but never a defined answer. I think it’s very frustrating because we continue to make this more and more as a problem. This only causes global warming to get even worse and people like President Trump are telling us that it not real? So how we ever going to get better if our own president tells us that it’s not real?
Along with my love for the environment came a pain in watching it suffer around the world as human development encroached onto once untouched regions. I felt powerless and desperate to somehow use my individual influence, no matter how small, to slow the damage to the planet and lessen the impact a growing population was having as we dive deeper for resources.
Globally the integration of environmental education for sustainable development a countries education system is imperative as it incorporates the natural environment, population and development in line with the sustainable living values and norms (Hungerford et al, 1994; Corcoran, Weakland, & Wals, 2017). Environmental Education is not only critical for school curriculum only, but community concerns can also be addressed by environmental education. Environmental problems can be addressed via environmental education using the community context whereby, solutions to environmental problems are implemented and are practical (Hungerford et al, 1994).
Education has long been around and is a important aspect to the American culture with many kids starting school at the age of 4 and going till they are graduated at the average age of 18 years old. Many of these students then continue on to college and specialize within a field of interest to them. In grade schools, many have recycling drives and talk about the impacts of one’s global footprint. Anna’s response towards education was, “school helps teach us how to lessen our impact on the environment by teaching us about renewable and nonrenewable resources, through programs such as Earth Day and Arbor Day”. As these students continue to get older they may choose a study that is outside of the general interest of the environment. Where as Max took to studying about the environment in college.
With that in mind, if one want to live in world in there is nothing better than taking beautiful hike or going camping with the family. Those vacation days camping makes one forget about all the troubles in the world. So get this if as people we continues living the way we are all of that is going to be gone and our kids are not going to be able to experience that nature. Not even that but almost half of the biodiversity is diminished in numbers more animals are going extinct faster than previous years. One important step that I liked from 50 Simple Steps to save the World’s Rainforest and that is to get angry. Henderson describes how in order to have a positive outcome, we need to get angry about the things we love or else action won’t take
What comes to your mind when you think of pollution? Is it air pollution? Is it water pollution? Both of these are crucial to understand and should pop into your head when think of pollution. According to Merriam-Webster, pollution is “the action of polluting especially by environmental contamination with man-made waste; also: the condition of being polluted.” I would like the audience to use this definition to further their understanding of what pollution is. This could be anything from an inconsiderate person tossing their trash out the car window to toxic fertilizer chemicals leeching into the soil and then eventually working their way down into the Mississippi and creating a hypoxic zone. Pollution can also be naturally created via
The piece of some the assigned reading that interest me the most is the effect of greediness and behaviors impacting the environment. As such, in ‘Eco Defense”, however the writer pointed out the imperative for one’s to take action to preserve the environment. Addition, in “The call of Wild” the author highlights the behaviors of humankind destroying everything; such as, earth and naturel resources, and as well as animals, trees and plant are being affected by the disruption of the human. Basically my topic will be on the environment and what other aspect that are destroying the planet and also what can be done to educate the new generation about it. Not only I believe it is a patriotic thing to preserve the planet and also believe that it
The hyper-connected world we live in is rapidly changing. It is through EfS, a transformative learning process equipping learners, teachers, and education systems with the knowledge required to achieve economic prosperity and responsible citizenship, which will prepare people of all ages to assume responsibly for creating a more sustainable future (Department of Environment and Heritage [DEH], 2005). Taking into consideration the range, complexity and immediacy of issues such as climate change, pollution and water security, an improved coordinated national effort on EfS is now needed (Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts [DEWHA], 2009). Ecologising education and incorporating sustainability into the curriculum, encourages students to view the world holistically and think systematically about the contexts and interconnections involved in the challenges of meeting future requirements (DEWHA, 2009). It is more than
A beautiful, crystal clear, and wondrous blue is a perfect and marvelous ocean blue. Enjoying the sunset and hearing the amazing sound of the waves is the best feeling ever. This proves some of the best things in life are free. The oceans are one of the most important natural resources on the planet. The oceans serves as a source of energy and raw materials but due to ocean pollution is causing major consequences to sea animals. Mainly the ocean pollution comes from plastic in the ocean but also, “6.4 million tons of garbage enters the oceans every year” (Karpus).
Public garbage cans, waste management vehicles and even several businesses all promote the need for recycling. These things should serve as a constant reminder to us of the importance of recycling. Consumers produce a large scale of garbage (ARTICLE 1) the average American discards seven and a half pounds of garbage every day. The waste produced by Americans goes to landfills and dumps. Landfills are growing quickly, which are affecting our environment as well as our resources. This is where recycling materials such as plastic, paper, glass, etc., play a huge role in conserving our resources. If Americans take an active role in recycling, we can work to reduce the amount of garbage currently in our landfills and dumbs. Recycling has become more of a responsibility rather than a way to save money. It can help clean and protect our environment for each other and generations ahead. (ARTICLE 2) Recycling, the process of recovering and reusing waste products from household use, manufacturing, agriculture, and business, and thereby reducing their burden on the environment.
Your day has been great so far. You went on vacation, you found a dollar bill on the floor, you ate your favorite dish, nothing can be better than this. As soon as you walk on the boardwalk you are hoping to see big waves and fish in the sea, instead, you see dead fish and some animals floating in the water next to old car tires, trash, and fertilizer. Now you feel terrible and want to go home. Pollution is devastating. The reason why I researched this topic is that I do not want my family nor my planet to get sick. Pollution can be stopped very easily, it’s just that people “don’t know” how to stop or they just don’t care, which is a serious problem. I want people to see that pollution is mainly caused by humans, and also for them to see that it is a horrible thing that is happening. Some kids litter because they see their parents and their whole family doing it. When I was researching this topic, I noticed that I needed to find out more information, so I asked questions to myself. When did pollution get so bad? How many animals have gone extinct because of pollution? How many people die each year because of pollution? How much does everyone on the planet pollute each year? What is the best way to stop pollution? Can just one person make a difference? After a lot of research, I found out lots of ways that we can stop pollution, so it is possible to end it. Or at least improve the air.
Environmental issues have been a cause of a lot of debate in the recent past. Governments and nongovernmental organizations have been in constant consultations on how to help protect the environment. Apparently, as a result of man’s many actions, the natural environment is getting torn apart so quickly that the coming generations will not enjoy this kind of environment, unless a
