The United Nation’s convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) categorically states that anyone under the age of 18 is defined as a child with an exception, ‘under the law applicable to the child, the majority is attained’ (NSPCC, 2018).

While people think of human trafficking as just sexual assault and the selling of women, there is actually way more to it. One part is the selling of men and women to work in the fields and peoples houses in the act of slavery. People like the criminals believe others need to do work for them, which is the act of acquiescence. Others believe this is wrong and that all are born equal and should have the same rights. From all the people that disagree with human trafficking there has been a law created that staated this act was illegal. The wages and working conditions that slaves receive and are put in aren’t worth the amount of work they put in each week. Due to harsh and rough conditions that come along with human trafficking and slavery laws have been enforced, but that doesn’t mean that people will stop performing this unlawful act.

Some people do not have the opportunities that we Americans do they risk their lives in the hopes of bettering their families lives. People searching for better lives resort to human trafficking as a result. It is a worldwide issue that can be defined as the trading of humans, most commonly by force, sexual slavery, or commercial. It is one of the top leading crimes in the world today that puts not only women, but also men in danger. I believe that the United States should not sell any products manufactured by companies that use human trafficking. Human trafficking is a very big problem all over the world including the United States. There are several types of human trafficking, but one of the biggest issues is labor trafficking. Labor trafficking is modern- day slavery which forces people, even children, to work long hard hours with no or little pay. In my opinion, labor trafficking is very immoral, and there are several things that our country can do to stop it. We need to spread the news, expose industries, and create new laws.

How often do we consider how lucky we are to be free? To not have to be in constant fear of being assaulted. Mentally, physically or sexually. Victims of human trafficking live these horrors every day of their lives while we don’t even give them a thought. Human trafficking is an inhumane practice that needs to be stopped at all costs. By working together as a community or even on a larger scale, like the world, we can eradicate this problem. This essay will explore different actions that can be taken to approach a permanent solution to human trafficking such as the use of social media, monitoring of sex offenders and underground operations.

So, what can be done to fix this? The solution is simple, the hard part is getting enough people to care about the solution. If enough people considered how their products were being made and decided to stop supporting companies that abuse workers for labor, eventually those companies would need to change. If the market allows for human trafficking, it will exist. If companies start to lose money because people are boycotting their goods or services, they are going to take notice. Around the world and right here in the United States, Human Trafficking is a form of modern slavery. The difficult comprehension of this human reality within our own communities, makes this travesty hard to combat. Understanding the pervasiveness, the reality of the crime and the impact it has on a community are a call to action for all of us.
