Many would believe that there is no form of modern slavery today, that there hasn’t been such a thing for centuries; however, what if I told you that slavery is here a very well alive in our modern society. The cruel and covert form of this is human trafficking where multiple children, men, and women fall victim of this daily. In truth, there have been over 300,000 victims of human trafficking, as stated by the Statewide Human Trafficking Mapping Project in Texas, and this has to be a cause of concern for somebody who has some sense of morale within them; furthermore, thinking that there is somebody using another group of people for labor trafficking or even worse sex trafficking must be alarming to any American. It is insane to think that a person could entice and then kidnap another human being for their own monetary gain, is still going on today so inconspicuously that hardly anybody has noticed. Luckily, human trafficking can be spotted and stopped using the signs that the Attorney General of Texas has given us along with the informative knowledge that Polaris has given to not only border patrol agents but the general public as well.
In order to fully understand and devise a plan to combat human trafficking, we must fully understand what it is. As stated by the United Nations, human trafficking is the “recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt” of people by unacceptable manners.
