Essay Assignment #2 The LGBT community in the United States has always had massive difficulty fitting into our society. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other forms of abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long advocated for the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them. One of the hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that still holds the values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle was quite harsh but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to marry. This historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction came from those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin. Religion has always been a part of the American way of life since the nation's founding and with that homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the legal rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service to LGBT couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. Many people gay or straight who fought for gay rights believe these is pure discrimination and that stores should not have the right to deny service for any customer for any reason. However, this belief is unconstitutional and goes
Sadly, until this problem is fixed, LGBTQ+ people will still discriminate against because of people standing up for Religious Freedom. 64% of LGBTQ+ kids feel unsafe in their school because of their sexual orientation, and 44% feel unsafe because of their gender identity. The LGBTQ+ community fair for them to be discriminated against, but this country was founded on Religious Freedom, so it isn’t fair for people of faith to go against their beliefs. Until this problem is solved, LGBTQ+ people, kids, and adults, will be bullied and discriminated against, and people of faith will feel their rights aren’t protected.
Next month will be very exciting for the LGBTQ community, when several of the openly LGBTQ communities, athletes will head to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics to compete, which will be the most LGBTQ’s to participate in the Winter Olympics than ever before. Nonetheless, there were also seven openly LGBTQ athletes who competed in the Sochi games in 2014, which were all female athletes in the LGBTQ community
It’s not hard to say that America has come so far into society and our freedom. How can our country forget when slavery ended in 1865 and gave women more rights in 1920. However, over time America has ignored the basic rights of transgender people. Transgender people are not any different from African Americans, or women. Why should they be treated any different, they're humans just like everybody else. They deserve the same basic treatment as a human rather than being treated like they're not from this planet. There are transgender people today who are getting harassed and tormented for just going into the bathroom for what they identify as. They should be able to go into a bathroom for which gender they identify as. Rather than making special bathrooms for transgender people that make them stand out and feel like they’re labeling themselves for using.
When Barack Obama was president, he passed a law allowing transgender kids and teens, across the country, to use the bathroom of their gender choice. As you know, Donald Trump has been elected President. He took the law back saying that it was too difficult and complicated for the states to follow these guidelines. So, if you really think about it, transgender kids and teens, have no support from the government, and no one is standing up. When I think about the problems and how the United States is supposed to be free (it really isn’t), I think about how kids and teens who are transgender to the public feel different. I think about how they feel and what it would be like in that situation. I wish that someone would stand up and get their voice out and tell the public that this isn’t right. Transgender people, in general, don’t have the rights as others people in the United States. Would it hurt to let teens and kids, that are transgender, to use the bathroom of the gender they choose in public? My question I am trying to figure out is, How can we, as a whole nation, help transgender people get the rights that people who keep their gender have, instead of blocking them out and telling them no to stuff that we have the freedom to do? My question means that people have to accept (which they are learning, too) not just transgender, but gay and lesbian to, because they are in our society and they are humans too. When I finished researching, I found that there are a lot of problems, but they are very alike and we all can improve how we treat transgender people, how to accept them, and get their side of the story.
Approximately, 8.8 million United States citizens are considered to be apart of the LGBT community. With these numbers on the rise, homicide rates regarding LGBT people in the last five-seven years appear to be climbing and staying that way. Because of these statistics that are increasing every day, it is crucial that protection laws be put in place for the benefit of LGBT people.
All families face challenges in their everyday life. For some, the challenges are easier to handle while for others, surmounting those challenges can be more difficult. Over the years, the LGBT community in the US has faced many hurdles. Whether it’s the legalization of same-sex marriage to adoption rights to alimony, child support and child custody in case of divorce, legislation specific to gay and lesbian couples still has a long way to go.
There is much controversy about the rights of individuals who identify themselves as part of the LGBTQA+ community. The real question is, why is there controversy about this topic in the first place? Why would you want to strip a person of their rights just because they’re different or they don’t fit your standards of normal? The people of the LGBTQA+ community should be able to have the same rights and be treated the same way as other people.
Everyday people have to walk around being criticized because of the type of person they are and they are talked down to, violated, abused and sometimes even killed. No one should ever have to walk around fearful to show affection to the person they are with because they are of the same gender. A person shouldn't have to be frightened to use the bathroom because they are transgender it was their option and change in life they shouldn't have to carry that burden on them. Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, and queers are people and they are human beings just like the rest of the people and they should have rights just the same as the people around them. LGBTQ rights and state laws have changed a numerous amount of times because of the
Gay marriage is a topic that is so often discussed by those with highly diverse opinions. As some people agree with those of the same sex pursuing marriage, others do not seem to feel the same way. This fact can apply to individuals as well as entire countries. Several of these individuals and countries originally agreed with the subject of gay marriage as others were required to be forced due to the fact that their ban on gay marriage was decided as unconstitutional. Same-sex marriage is a controversial issue in today's world where some choose to agree with the decision of homosexual people and some choose to oppose it, all doing so usually for different reasons.
In today’s world, people can be described in the terms of gay, straight, or bisexual. Some people can find these labels uncomfortable. Some believe it is a decision you make and others believe homosexuality is something you are born with. By using the perspective of proposal argument, this situation can be regarded as a more vivid explanation about sexuality. Based on brain studies of the hypothalamus and genetics, it can be argued that sexual orientation is a trait people are born with.
Love is universal for everyone no matter what race, sexual orientation, or religion. However, one cultural difference that is effected by society is gay marriage. Gay marriage should be viewed as equal to straight marriage and all over the world be viewed as socially equal. Three things that prevent gay marriage from being viewed equal are religion, political issues, and stereotyping in regards to sexual orientation. I have been raised in a gender equal house all my life and this has influenced me to be the women I am today and allow me to view people as equal no matter what race, gender, and sexual orientation. These three reasons are why the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) are not accepted into society, but they should be
In the 19th century, hardly any tolerance was granted for those that preferred or sought out same-sex relationships. In fact, many countries had laws against homosexuality and made these relationships punishable by imprisonment or even death. The fight for equal LGBTQ+ rights has been a long journey, and it’s a battle that’s still occurring today. However, great strides have been made towards equality for all- no matter their sexuality. Going from the beginning of the gay rights movement to the continuing fight for equal rights and all the way to one of the biggest victories in LGBTQ+ history, love finally wins.
Americans’ support on gay marriage remains on a high 61%. I, as a Republican, 100% support everything for gay marriage. Everyone should be treated the same as everyone else, either if you're gay or not. I think that we should make everyone's life easier and better by leaving the argument over same-sex marriage alone. Republicans say that this is one of the most considered issues in the upcoming elections. Republicans also say, “We condemn the Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Windsor, which wrongly removed the ability of Congress to define marriage policy in federal law”. Having the right to stand up to the government is a big thing for religious people. Everyone should have the right to marry whoever they would like. Democrats believe that gay marriage should be left to the state as an issue, that religious entities should be allowed to make decisions about marriage as a religious sacrament on their own. Same-sex marriage has really increased in America. The voters put a good deal of weight on this issue, making it a topic that could make and also break elections in the upcoming years.
“Understand that sexuality is as wide as the sea. Understand that your morality is not law. Understand that we are you. Understand that if we decide to have sex whether safe, safer, or unsafe, it is our decision and you have no rights in our lovemaking,” said Derek Jarman, a well known english film director and author in the late 1900s. This statement is showing how sexuality can not and should not be mandated by laws. Many people arguing this topic do not know all the facts on whether it is genetics or the environment. Homosexuality has always been a very controversial topic throughout history. This issue has broken up many families and have caused many conflicts. Especially the older generations, who are very quick to judge on one's sexual orientation. Those who quickly judge others usually are the ones who are not informed that being homosexual is not a choice. Homosexuality, which has been proven to be caused by genetics through studies done through the field of human biology, many traits in genes have been found and many gays have been born into anti-gay cultures.
The struggle for equality in our nation is nothing new. One of the biggest struggles was same sex marriage. the discussion around same-sex marriage initially started in 1993 when the Hawaii Supreme Court decided that laws denying same-sex couples the privilege to wed damaged state established equivalent assurance rights unless the state could demonstrate a "convincing reason" for such separation. Since that time, some states have controlled and stated that marriage can only happen among a woman and a man and other states have allowed same sex couples to marry. Interest groups are groups of people that come together to share their similar goals and opinions. They play a big part in the government representing controversial issues. An interest group that was a huge help and was rooting for the same sex marriage was the “Freedom to Marry Coalition”. They worked hard to get the public informed, and they got them to participate in their favor. They wrote petitions for citizens to sign to get people to influence the government. They signed a pledge to allow same sex marriage in the South. They worked to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). This act was established in 1996, and even after fighting for it for eighteen years there’s only so much an interest group can do. Under government law, particularly the Defense of Marriage Act marked into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996, marriage is characterized as between one man and one lady. However, state-by-state laws in
