The intercom beeps loudly, marking commencement of a passing period, but for students who have lunch this marks the beginning of a race to see who can get to the lunchroom the fastest in hope of being excluded from the long waiting time in the lunch line. In the 2017-2018 school year, there has been an increase in students at Jones College Prep due to more and more incoming freshman and transfers. Because of this increase, the lunch lines have increased in length and have even, at times during C-lunch in the north building, reached the path leading towards the link in the lunchroom. The lunch lines during lunch at Jones College Prep are extremely long damaging students in a physical and emotional way and they need to be fixed immediately. Lunch lines at Jones take away time for students’ personal activities. From personal experience, I can say that the lunch lines at Jones take an extreme amount of time. I can remember a time in which I got to the lunch line on an A-day at 11:15 and got my lunch until 11:45. I believe that lasting 30 minutes in a lunch line is a ridiculous amount of time when all we are given is 45 minutes worth of lunch time. Not only was it very time wasting but it was also very tiring. I want my lunch period to be a period in which I can have my personal time to enjoy being with friends and being able to not have to think about how stressful the first half of the day was. It is a wonderful time that I can have to myself. Unfortunately, being in a lunch line is very stressful and does not help lower my stress levels. Edwin Guallpa, a junior at Jones College Prep, says he brings his own lunch but enjoys sitting with his friends at lunch because it is a time to relax (Guallpa). Edwin finds it hard to have an enjoyable time with his friends because his friends take up to 20 minutes in the lunch lines waiting to get a lunch. In addition to being in line for a long time, in a school where technology is vital, students who do not have a printer or cannot turn their papers online at home are forced to go to the library during their lunch period to do what they have to do. Students at Jones utilize lunch time to study for upcoming test during 3rd or 4th period, depending on their lunch schedule.
These are the reason why schools should let the students should be able to leave campus for lunch. The school gives, then after a couple months they take all the special privileges away that they gave. Students should be able to handle an hour break to go get lunch with friends, or even go home for lunch. In high school many students have their license, and most of them don’t like the food that’s being served. There could be problems that occur with students leaving, but all problems have a solution, this essay explain why this would be great for high school students to be able to leave campus for lunch.
To begin, Students need positive social environments to grow healthy relationships between other students and staff. Not only does socializing play to common sense, but it has also been studied and proven by numerous institutions. For example, an article written for the Journal of Counseling and Development found that, “[S]tudents’ relationships and emotional connections to their teachers are highly associated with academic success” (qtd.in Bryan). Teamwork and critical thinking are spawn from interaction between those with whom we mingle on a daily basis, i.e. school mates and teachers. What better time to interact with others, than lunch time. Lunch time allows for a comfortable environment where children can interact with each
Students are busy with classes, athletic practices, clubs and organizations, and other important activities. Because of this, they need dining services that will work around their hours. Since on campus dining may be the only way for some students to eat, it is essential that they are able to make it to the facilities before it closes. If students do not make it in time to eat it can affect the way they function for the rest of the day, which can negatively affect their performance in class, athletics and other activities.
For many previous years, Anaheim High school has had a couple lunch system changes finally settling on two lunches, both being half an hour long. With both lunches only being half an hour long, for certain, more than one thousand students being in each, imagine the lunch lines! Making line to get your lunch takes already about fifteen minutes, half of a person’s time already, which leaves little time for a student to enjoy their so called meal and free time with friends.Based on other student’s experiences dealing with school lunch, one can rightfully assume that high schoolers would much rather hold in their hunger until after school rather than have the food being provided. There is not a single day that goes by in which a high schooler does not complain about the “worst than jail” food being served to them. This proposal will go into detail about why having an hour off-campus lunch can increase healthier eating habits between the undergraduates of Anahiem High School. In this layout, you will read about the issue of why we believe off- campus lunch would be a healthier choice for Anaheim High school students, you will also encounter our plan of how we intend to carry out this idea, what exactly needs to be done, with the help of who, and so on.
Have you ever thought why you’re school lunch looks so disgusting? Have you ever thought what it’s actually made of? Or why doesn’t this look like the way I ate it at home? For some schools, lunches lack in many different categories from visual pleasure to taste. If the school lunches taste so bad, why don’t we try another way to make them better. For a school in Greeley, Colorado, they’re doing just that. They’re firing up their stoves and are ready to get the ball rolling. There are many reasons on why the school is taking such a huge step backwards. Like, the routine of buying reheated foods and serving them without hesitation. The schools budget cuts or the kitchen being too old and small for the process of preparing such foods. As well as, the list of ingredients that do not need to be in the foods and the risks of diseases/bacteria in the reheated lunches.
What is the longest time you have ever had to wait in a lunch line to get food? Students at Hebron have to wait way longer than needed to just get food. Although we have an hour to eat, a lot of the food Hebron provides is usually finished by the second half or b block. Another problem to why it takes so long is line cutting, where students will skip a line of twenty to twenty-five students
Almost every student eagerly waits for the lunch bell. It means that it's time to take a break, time to indulge, time to talk to your friends. But with all of this excitement and commotion happening all at once, no one stops and take the time to look around and observe the overlooked parts of the lunch room. When observing my sixth period surroundings, I finally noticed how unoriginal and oberly disorderly the things and people around me really are. The pandemonium begins before you even enter the cafeteria. Loud girls shriek with laughter while rambunctious boy toss around some sort of food that evidently always finds its way on to the floor. Does anybody clean it up? Nope. Not a single soul will think twice about stepping over that
Nationwide students waist over 70% of fruits and vegetables, while others are sitting around without food at all in other places(Public brief). Some students only get the 2 meals they are provided with at school ,but they often are not provided with enough to eat. Its import for low income and less fortunate families to be provided enough time to eat to make sure they are receiving there energy and daily nutrients(Godoy& Allison). Increasing the school lunch time will also save the schools a great amount of money(Public brief). School lunch food wasted to cost $1.2 billion dollars each year, which is enough for a person to buy a new car everyday of there life(Public brief). A simple increase in time could save schools a bunch of money needed to improve the school building and faculty. Many cafeteria staff and teachers have reported complaints about how students aren't eating all their food and they have to throw it away(EHHI). Most of the time in high schools foods are sold à la carte instead of a full meal to avoid having to throw away or make more food(EHHI). As a result of the food waste cafeterias started using foods with more fats and less nutritious items to get students to eat( EHHI). Cafeteria are selling french fries and not the healthy food to make there money because students aren't eating enough of the
At a local school, a student had to vomit during lunch, but wasn’t allowed to use the bathroom. A teacher forced the student to stay in his seat and the student vomited on his food. Students that go to Springdale Jr./Sr. High School should be allowed to use the bathroom during lunch because they need to wash up, to use it for emergencies, and to use it if you all of the sudden need to use it during lunch.
School lunch rooms have been evolving over the last decade. Healthier food choices and better-quality food are just two of many improvements happening inside school cafeterias. Although school lunch rooms are making various positive changes, there are still negative consequences for some students. Most students can go through the lunch line and not have to worry about the cost of the meal and whether they have enough money to buy a hot lunch. On the other hand, some students are constantly worrying about not being able to eat lunch due to the price. According to a CNN article titled “School Lunch Shaming” by Heather Long, “…an alarming number of American youngsters still can’t afford a $2.35 lunch, despite the dramatic expansion of free and reduced lunch programs” (paragraph 1), which demonstrates the struggles that these low-income families face when it comes to buying their student school lunches. Staff working in cafeterias have started to “shame” those students by taking away the student’s food and giving them a bag containing a cheese sandwich and milk to those students who are unable to afford their lunch. States such as New Mexico are taking a stand against school lunch shaming and have banned lunch shaming completely. Long also explained that, “The USDA is urging districts to stop “embarrassing” and “singling out” students who don’t have enough money for lunch” (paragraph 9), which further demonstrates the lengths people are going to solve the lunch shaming issues.
Some of my fellow students at Conroe High School don’t eat lunch in the cafeteria. For instance,I eat lunch everyday in the agricultural shop all the way behind the rotunda at our school, and my fifth period is in the main building upstairs. Because of this, sometimes I have to leave lunch early and don’t get to finish it only to be able to make it back without getting a tardy. Another example would be, the kids that eat in the Music Hall of our school or even a science classroom, and we don’t know exactly when the teachers release from the cafeteria. They get a referral because they were tardy too
How would you like it if the lunch lines weren’t so full but your students all had a filled stomach? Well I honestly believe that if you gave only 11th and 12th graders the opportunity to leave campus for lunch and it would make everyone’s life easier.
"It is now three o'clock. If you are not under the direct supervision of a teacher please report to the cafeteria," the loudspeaker announces. Daily many students spend their time waiting in the lunchroom after the final bell rings. Some students are waiting for their ride while others do homework with friends. Some spring sports, like tennis, do not start their practices directly after school which leaves them waiting. To accommodate for these students and athletes, the A la Carte area of the cafeteria is opening after school from 2:10 to 2:45 p.m.
For this research, I asked one of my friends, Hannah, who still a student there to skype me in so I could observe. We started to skype at the end of her class and I watched as her and other students herded into the lunch building. She described what she witnessed as I paid close attention to the screen. Many students were either speed walking or running toward the lunch lines while other rushed to claim their spot in the cafeteria or hallway. Once all the spots are claimed in the cafeteria and on the sides of the hallway, several social groups take to standing in
To unwind from tests, teachers, school work, and learning. All those subjects are very stressful in a young teenager’s life. Our lunch hour is the only hour from 8:00 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. that we have that we can just get away from school, and relax and have fun.
