Studies have showed that 60 percent of people lie every 10 minutes; do you think you can tell when they do? (NBC News) No matter who you are, you have lied at least once in your lifetime, and you may know someone who lies constantly. Wouldn’t be nice to finally be able to catch them in the act? Using little more than a few observations and a bit of thinking, you too may be able to determine who is lying and who is not. Note: This may only apply if you can see or hear the person you are talking to. It can be very difficult to determine if someone is lying through text alone.
The first step in determining if someone might be lying to you is to set a precedent, or baseline, of that person. First impressions can mean a lot, and it may just tip you off if that person is lying right to your face. Take a look at the person’s demeanor and appearance to see if they look sketchy. Yes, you aren’t supposed to judge a book by its cover, but sometimes it can certainly help if you do. If you already know the person well, then this part will be much easier. Pay attention to their prior body language, speech, and ability to deceive people. This is what you will call your “baseline”. If the person has shown that they are not one to lie often, it is likely that they will not stray from their normal actions.
