Mental illness is a very real, and very substantial problem. As a person that suffers from several mental illnesses, such as Depression, general and social anxiety, I can say that it's not always easy to have a face to face conversation about the issues in my head. Not only that, but the reasons for not getting help can vary, from severe anxiety making speaking to people difficult, cost, location, etc. One thing I have found is finding help online is, while still mildly difficult, easier. So what can the internet do for people suffering with mental health? Can it help or is it part of the problem? It helps more than some could understand. The internet is a very useful tool for the mentally ill and should be taken advantage of in order to help the people who need it. According to two different articles posted in two thousand sixteen “One in four American adults is affected by a mental disorder each year. . .” (“Mental disorders” 1), and “One in five kids ages 13-18 in the U.S. experiences a mental health condition in any given year. . .” (Villalpando 1). Mental illness is an epidemic and it starts young. According to Nicole Villalpando “Fifty percent of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14 and 75 percent by age 24” (1). Mental illness will not only affect the one with the disorder, but everyone around them. There is such a vast array of disorders, ranging from eating disorders, to anxiety, to schizophrenia. They can be mild or crippling. Everything about
Mental health is currently not being taken as seriously as physical health. Why? David Cameron (former PM) says, “We have focused a lot on physical health and we haven’t as a country focused enough on mental health.” Since the NHS was founded in 1948 there has been a strong barrier of separation between the two. It seems to be that physical health is generally strongly favoured over mental health. This needs to stop - they need to be treated equally in society, workplaces and hospitals.
Nowadays, when people emphasis more and more on healthy lifestyles, both exercise and food intake have become a big part of the consideration. With the goals of being fit and losing weight, some people eat irregularly or do not eat at all. As a result, eating disorders seem more often on news and reports. However, some people still view it as a joke. With the increasing number of people diagnosed with eating disorders, people should raise awareness on the effects of eating disorders and treat them seriously.
“Nearly 5 million children in the U.S. have some type of mental illness” (Goldberg). It is agreeable that there are many young children that deal with mental illness every day. Schools should be concerned for every student’s well being. Moreover, mental health is a part of a person’s overall “well being.” Therefore, schools need to make the mental health of students a stronger focus and implement plans to keep students mentally well and educated. To help create a positive, mental health aware environment where students feel open to seek help, high school students should be educated on how to be mentally healthy, be given a safe place to seek help, and be encouraged to monitor and maintain their mental health. Mental illness and mental health care need to be a more eminent priority in our society, starting with high schools.
The media coverage of this year's presidential election rages on. Meanwhile, meaningful mental-health reform legislation introduced in Congress has been relegated to the back burner. What was to be at the top of the 2016 House agenda, according to House Speaker Paul Ryan, has been pushed aside while Congress focuses on the politics of the election. We have a presidential election every four years. We have a mental-health crisis in this country 365 days a year, every year. We only hear about the mass shootings that make the national news; yet tragedies involving untreated mental illness occur daily throughout this country and will continue to do so until Congress passes meaningful mental-health reform legislation. Yes, this year's presidential election is important. So is mental-health reform. Seriously disturbed people struggling with mental illness need help now, not after the election, not next year. They need it now.
As Boyd and Fales (1983) purported, reflective learning encourages and facilitates changing perspectives, as has occurred in my reflection and renewed outlook on mandatory mental health treatments.
It’s very important to comprehend that you will be living life with a mental illness. It’s not going to go away; it’s not going to be unproblematic. Like diabetes and other illnesses, it’s here to stay and that’s okay. In no way will you let your mental illness live your life and control you mentally and physically on a daily basis. No more laying in bed the majority of the day, continuing to be depressed and allowing anxiety and additional mental illnesses have power over you. It’s your time to live and benefit from the life you want.
Sometimes, it’s not just about being simply sad anymore. As our world becomes a more hectic place to live in, wherein even the simplest movement can invoke the biggest change and toxicity, it cannot be helped that us, as the human beings who live on this planet, be affected. Our thoughts go haywire beyond our control, and sometimes we just feel like breaking down. From plain sadness, one’s emotions may or may not lead to depression.

Those suffering from a mental health disorder tend to struggle to reach out for the help they need, because they are too afraid of how others might perceive them. Those suffering with mental illnesses shouldn’t be afraid to reach out for help, but because of the stigma on mental illnesses, people do not reach out for proper care that they need. As a society, the stigma against mental health must be stopped.

Consequently, ninety percent of all lung cancer diagnosis are due to smoking. In the last 50 years, 20 million individuals have passed away due to cigarettes, some are even from second-hand smoke. Second hand smoke is breathing in the smoke from cigarettes when you are not smoking. Some of the health problems that can arise from the use of cigarettes are cancer (lung, throat, mouth, esophagus, stomach, and many others), COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), tuberculosis, and asthma. It can also increase your risk for type two diabetes. Does it increase your chances of developing an eating disorder?

Anyone can develop an eating disorder; both male and female of any age. Imagine a frail, pale, and freezing women in which one can see most of her bones. She is suffering from anorexia and has been battling this terrible disease for years, but this time it is worse than it has ever been and she now only has weeks to live. There are many different types of eating disorders and both men and women can develop them. Eating disorders include, anorexia, and bulimia which cause would cause one to lose weight. When one thinks of an eating disorder, we tend to think about women who are extremely underweight, but that is not completely accurate, there is also an overeating disorder which would cause one to gain weight. Eating disorders can form in many different ways. Eating disorders are very problematic and harmful. People with eating disorders are not happy with the way they look and feel the need to control something. There are many ways that eating disorders can be resolved and that is usually through therapy. However, if we stopped romanticizing eating disorders and saying that the ideal body type is a skinny body, we could resolve this horrible disease.
Mental health, like many people I struggle from mental illness.Last year after the death of my Godmother I officially was diagnosed with severe depression,two impulsive and social anxiety disorder.My journey has been long ,confusing and a constant struggle even knowing many people can relate. Although a constant topic in the media, it remains taboo and many people are unaware of what to do when faced with mental health issues.The following is a series of steps to help and also a guide for those that need help dealing with a loved one or friend who suffer with these issues.
