Another reason Obama’s YouTube ads were highly successful is because it demonstrated to the people the power they held, increasing individual and collective agency. The Youtube ads made the public feel empowered since they were more personal and created opportunities for individual involvement. For instance, Obama’s most famous ad released on YouTube called “The Choice” opens with the line “Over the next four months you have a choice to make.” . Through this specific ad, Obama is calling each individual to make “ a choice” and releasing it through YouTube makes all the more personal. The person sitting behind a computer screen is not watching this ad as they wait for their favorite tv show to start but rather chose to click on a link and watch it for themselves. Watching a YouTube ad requires interest and action while watching …show more content…
The rhetoric of the Youtube ads is also quite different than those released on television. On YouTube, the Obama campaign focused primarily on their candidates’ agenda and policies. About 73 percent of the ads released on YouTube consisted of Obama talking about how he could make the country a better place by cutting taxes and giving the middle class jobs, bringing troops back from overseas and so forth (Ridout, 2014). Television ads on the other hand, consisted mainly of attack ads focused on Romney and the Republican party's failure in economic, social and foreign policies. The stark difference in tone between YouTube and TV ads is consistent with Greg Smith’s theory that even though is the past few election cycles there has been a higher amount of negative advertising, the shift to more informative ads seen on YouTube and other social media platforms goes to prove that the audience is more likely to respond positively to ads that shed light of the issues rather than
In 1983, Raymond Carver introduced his short story “Cathedral” to the public. The first-person narrative takes place within the narrator’s home, where his wife is waiting upon the arrival of her blind friend Robert. The narrator, however, becomes more concerned about how Robert’s visit will affect him rather than enjoy the situation. Once Robert arrives, the narrator tries to understand the blind man, but he is unaware of what tasks Robert is capable of performing due to the narrator’s inability to “see”. In time, Robert shows the narrator the difference between looking and seeing through illustrations of a cathedral, drawn by the narrator with his eyes closed. “Cathedral’s” narrator exposes readers to anti-heroic views
The content and the commercial spots in which they are placed are always at the discretion and control of the candidate with his/her campaign– these spots can broaden an audience of people that other forms of media simply can’t. The ads, placed specifically during bipartisan programming, can target and influence people of all backgrounds to vote for their candidate as research shows voters learn more from political spots than any news coverage or televised debate.
We can all agree that election season can be the most stressful season of the year. Between all the adds, news broadcasts, and polls, you can’t help but feel overwhelmed by the need to choose someone to vote for. However, there is a candidate that surpasses all the others. Senator Bernie Sanders is running for president for the 2016 term. He holds all of the views that this nation needs in order to be successful in the next four years. Bernie Sanders will be the next great president of the United States.
If you were the president of the United States of America what kind of leader would you want to be? You would want to lead your country with pride and power. Donald Trump is committed to his job and making changes not only in America, but also around the world. He has made great improvements in America; a few examples are making a difference with democracy, upholding global democracy/civilian rights and new economics/tax reform. These three issues, and many others, all have something in common; Trump is making these complications into strengths in the United States of America and he has only been in the presidency business for over three years.
In a claim that has set a significant degree of precedence for the executive branch, George Washington states, “The Constitution is the guide which I will never abandon.” However, it can be concluded that former President Obama does not share this view of the Constitution. When referencing executive orders, the Constitution states, “He (the president) shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” Because there is a great distinction between executing the laws and changing the laws, President Obama usurped the Constitutional powers of Congress.
President Obama tells the world that we can face the challenges that we are faced with if we belief. In the three ad I chose President Obama attacks McClain about his healthcare decisions and goes on to explain to the audience what to expect if McClain is elected for president. He explains that McClain is a risk the world would take if elected for president. In the ad President Obama really sticks it to McClain because at the time of the election healthcare was a very important item that was being questioned so President Obama made his audience believe that with choosing him for president these were the things they did not have to worry about. In my fourth ad I chose it was very entertaining with music and President Obama explaining to the world that “YES WE CAN” prepares the world for challenge, yes we can heal the world, yes we can stop the war, and yes we can provide better healthcare for our country. He goes into explaining that for so long we can been told that we could not do these things but with change we will be able to do these things. He also states that we will be one country and not
I believe the president, President Obama, has gone beyond his boundaries on being the president of the United States. This means that I am for the motion that Obama has past his boundaries as being a president. President Obama has set off a war without the congress anal consent, which was stated clearly in the Constitution. “Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution states that the president “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed,”. “A duty Obama flouted by taking unilateral action to suspend the employer mandate of Obamacare, and through his executive orders on immigration.” The Framers have separated the three branches by checks and balances, which needs to be followed. However, following exertive orders, many hate being told
As time goes on, each Presidential election seems to be more controversial than the last. Political advertisements have a clear goal in promoting or criticizing candidates running for the same position. These advertisements are very important to the success or lack failure for the candidates. Jeb Bush recently ran in the 2016 Presidential election as a Republican candidate. Although he had many television advertisements, “First Job” stuck out as extremely successful for Jeb Bush’s campaign. The Jeb Bush 2016 Campaign Advertisement, “First Job” is successful in promoting Jeb Bush as a Presidential candidate by using images that appeal to Americans, incorporating a personal and professional connection, the dialogue, and including positive music
It is very common among the United States’ political sphere to rely heavily on T.V. commercials during election season; this is after all the most effective way to spread a message to millions of voters in order to gain their support. The presidential election of 2008 was not the exception; candidates and interest groups spent 2.6 billion dollars on advertising that year from which 2 billion were used exclusively for broadcast television (Seelye 2008.) Although the effectiveness of these advertisements is relatively small compared to the money spent on them (Liasson 2012), it is important for American voters to think critically about the information and arguments presented by these ads. An analysis of the rhetoric in four of the political
The beginning of the video advertisement of Barack Obama for the 2008 presidential election was quite attractive and convincing enough to motivate the targeted audience. The advertisement targets the general and common Americans who longed to have a change after two consecutive terms of George W. Bush. Tired of hearing about events of war, Americans could find the message of Barack Obama to be appropriate and striking. It is quite blatant that the presidential ad was meticulously crafted to fulfill the needs of the targeted audience. There are three basic tools introduced for the rhetorical analysis of any communicative medium. These elements are ethos, pathos, and logos. In the campaign commercial, Obama artfully combines these rhetorical
In the Obama presidency there were many good things that occurred as well as many bad things. The two good things that occurred that was good was the passed health care reforms he enforced and creating more economic growth for the recession that happened previously in US history. The bad thing the Obama did during his presidency is fail to recognize ISIS before it grew to its size. The reason why the obama presidency was good was because of the new health care reform. Through the course of the past few presidential terms, and a decades of attempts to pass universal health insurance, Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (2010). The act enabled 32 million uninsured Americans in the year of 2014 to have health care as well as cutting health care
Figure3 is an example of empty speech from Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign posters. The ads are simple; they make no promises or mention his paste work in congress. The ad on the left consist of five words a photo of Obama and supports holding up signs in the background. The ad on the right only has one word and a picture of Obama in red and blue which remind people of other great political posters of the past and is a step away from the ads of the present. These words are meaningless and do not say anything about his policies, ideology or plans for the future of the nation, yet these ads were very popular and may have persuaded undecided voters who were tired of the political party in power at the time.

During the 2012 presidential election, both candidates Obama and Romney utilized the power of the internet to create short video ad campaigns. Some were aired on television, others were uploaded to social media platforms, such as Youtube. After carefully analyzing four videos, two from the Obama
