Mayor de Blasio is Sending President Obama a $35 Million Bill For Trump Security
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is requesting $35 million in reimbursement from the federal government for the cost of NYPD protection around Trump Tower.
“This is truly unusual, for the first time we have had the NYPD providing such a crucial role in providing security for the President-elect,” de Blasio said during a press conference Monday morning, announcing he is sending a letter to President Obama to “formally initiate the reimbursement process” between November 8 through Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
“We are going to be continuing very aggressively in the course of the next few days with calls and meeting with members of the Obama administration and members of the Congress to nail down the reimbursements,” de Blasio added. “ This is the time now to really lean into nailing down the reimbursement.”
The letter to President Obama comes shortly after half-dozen Democratic

According to NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill, 50 additional officers are detailed to help with the increase protection and surveillance around Trump Tower.
The request cost of about $500,000 per day in protecting the president-elect and his family qualifies as an extraordinary expense for the city. At a post-election press conference last month, de Blasio stated the city would need help from the federal government to cover the security cost and the overtime for NYPD officers.
“This is a very substantial undertaking that will take substantial resources,” de Blasio said. “We will begin the conversation with the federal government shortly on reimbursement for the NYPD for some of the costs that we are incurring, in particular the overtime

Although the worst of the fiscal challenge is over, managers need to recognize that there will not be a return to the way things were prior to 2007. As Generation X'ers move into management roles, the advancement of technology makes public safety more efficient, the service model will begin to change. The philosophy of doing more with less will start to emerge. “In the paper “Making Policing More Affordable: Managing Costs and Measuring Value in Policing,” published by the National Institute of Justice, authors George Gascon and Todd Foglesong suggest that the police model should be more like a medical model. In year’s past, when visiting the doctor's office, a physician performed virtually all of the testing, taking temperatures, measuring blood pressure, and so forth”(Matarese,
First of all, NYC departments later found out that they were on separate radios and because of this could not have their teams work together. During the novel, 102 Minutes, by Kevin Flynn and Jim Dwyer, Captain Alexander Whitaker explains that he was only able to radio to the Port Authority Police Department, (Dwyer and Flynn 78). This shows that the captain of the operation could only communicate with one out of three departments about what he saw and that he could only account for the PAPD. Once again, not only were

The move to conclude de Blasio parallel criminal probes came just days after Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, was fired by President Trump. Bharara led the year-long investigation into the mayor fundraising after a lead investigator at the state Board of Elections asked prosecutors to investigate whether de Blasio broke the law by funneling campaign contributions to Democratic state Senate candidates through state committee groups to evade donation contribution limits.

12 billion dollars, that is certainly a lot of money (McFadyen)! On average, that is how much the United States loses each year from border security. In order to stop illegal immigrants and drug smugglers from entering the U.S. from Mexico through the border, a wall must be built.

In Trump’s first 200 days in office he signed more Executive Orders than Obama averaged in a year (Gould, 2017), most of which reversed major Obama-era regulations that affect our environments and our economy. One in particular will make a significant impact on the lives of America’s poorest citizens. From the beginning of his campaign Trump pledged to help the inner cities focusing particularly on the African American communities. However, federal agencies such as the
Over the last several years, most police departments have been facing numerous financial challenges. The main reason is law enforcement agencies are expected to do more with less and the stagnant economy. The combination of these factors has been placing pressure on many departments to begin imposing budget cuts. Evidence of this can be seen with a survey that was conducted by the University of North Carolina. They found that 67% of police departments made some kind of budget cuts for 2011. The most severe reductions were occurring in large police departments such as Los Angeles, Atlanta and Detroit. (Delfem, 2011, pp. 199 - 205) This is illustrating one of the most pressing issues affecting a wide variety of police departments across the country. To fully understand what is happening requires: examining the situation, how they are able to interact with other agencies (i.e. state / federal) and recommending the way this relationship can be improved. Together, these elements will offer specific insights about how police departments can effectively address this problem.
US health care is one of the most talked about or controversial topics in last few years. We often come across debates, articles or columns relating to this topic. This is a hot topic of this generation. Why everyone should have insurance? Why people should have for something that might not use? These are some of the questions we found ourselves surrounding by. In my opinion US citizens should be required to have insurance. Both men and women have separate needs when it comes to health. More women are facing health issues because of teen pregnancies and child birth, it is important to for everyone to have a health care plan according to their needs. So when the time comes right treatment and medical attention can be provided. In this piece I will be presenting some ideas and arguments supporting my side and also looking at the flip side of the discussion.
Police departments need to develop contingency plans and backup systems to ensure that they can continue to operate and protect the community during the post-disaster recovery period. Furthermore, the police role in terrorism and disasters recovery is secondary; Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Red Cross, other charitable organizations, insurance companies, private businesses, state and local governments, and individuals have a primary responsibility for community and economic recovery. Moreover, Police were required to support the all-hazards homeland security mission with additional and enhanced equipment and training. Also, as a guide to homeland security, the police adopted a dual process, which they should have everyday uses and emergency uses; and regional cooperation should guide purchasing of the most expensive and specialized equipment. Department of Homeland Security raised new training requirements; established a Target Capabilities list that identifies what emergency responders and other will need to do in various types of disasters; and funded the development and delivery of homeland security related training for police and others, in addition to setting up a training portal. Continual training needs are planning for terrorism,
As if the 401.3 billion wasn't astronomical enough there is more money hidden within the budget that will go towards the same purposes, which is pulling those funds from civilians. The total of funds that were found hidden within the budget totaled to an actual figure of about 596.1 billion dollars (Higgs Pg. 3) with a breakdown of it as follows (in billions of dollars):
Healthcare is the maintenance or improvement of health and the prevention of sickness diagnosis, and treatment of disease, illness, and injury. Because of the need for healthcare is so important, the America government had to come up with a way to make sure people have healthcare and be able to pay for it. The government came up with a healthcare system that use insurance and premiums to make sure one has coverage when they go to the hospital for healthcare needs. If the government and hospitals really care about people’s health, then why do they make insurance and premiums so high that people cannot afford them? In 2005 there was an estimate 45 million Americans that lacked health insurance, and the numbers have been climbing since (Clemmitt, Universal Coverage 1). If the government says that they care about human life, then there should just be universal coverage so everyone can get their healthcare needs met no matter if that person is poor or rich.
When it comes to our health, a good healthcare plan is a very important subject for all individuals. Some even argue that it is a basic right to have one. Bernie Sanders stated, “Healthcare must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman, and child in our country should be able to access the health care they need regardless of their income…” (“Issues: Medicare for All”). However, reality tells us a whole different story. America is one of the most developed countries in the world with some of the best medical care. Yet, how can the people enjoy the benefits when it is almost unaffordable to most. People are afraid to fall sick just because they are afraid of how much it would cost. However, sometimes a doctor or hospital visit is unavoidable. In most cases, it comes at a great price, especially to the middle class and the elderly. Wealthy individuals are likely to reap the benefits of having an expensive healthcare plan, while the rest may suffer from the unimaginable cost of treatments, or even worse, live a risky life without insurance. An effective solution to this problem would be a Universal Healthcare System. This would ensure that all people have equal and affordable health coverage, centralized healthcare records for all individuals which will help easy diagnosis by doctors and reduce the intensive labor costs of medical billing. Moreover, it may boost the economy by freeing business from providing expensive healthcare benefits to workers.
