Renewable Energy
The world around us mostly runs on fossil fuels in order to produce electricity; however, there will be a period that comes where we will run out of those fossil fuels. We only have so much time before a crisis hits and we have nothing left to produce the energy we need. In order for our country to produce the energy and electricity we need, we must do something about it. As a country, we must figure out how we can make the switch to using more renewable energy before it is too late and we run out of fossil fuels.
Since, fossil fuels have been a part of our environment for some time now, they have been the main resource we’ve needed and used to keep our country running. The truth of the matter is, since we obtain fossil fuels from plants and animals that lived millions of years ago they will soon be gone. As indicated by Eric McLamb, founder, chief executive officer, and president of the ecology communications group, “The problem is fossil fuels are nonrenewable. They are limited in supply and will one day be depleted.” People realize that the crisis of running out of fossil fuels is upon us; however, these same people are timid about moving on to renewable energy. One main reason is because individuals do not believe renewable energy is cost efficient. For instance, solar energy is known to be fairly expensive, particularly more expensive than the conventional energy used now, which makes people uncertain about changing to renewable energy.
Renewable resources can be used as things that come naturally within Earth and will not run out; including but not limited to solar power, wind power and hydroelectric power. According to Document B, “BP’s (British Petroleum) intention to step up investments in solar energy.” , “WIth twice the fuel economy and half the CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions of conventional cars.” (talking about the world’s first hybrid electric car), and finally “Denmark now generates (some) of its electricity from wind power and ... from the combustion of agricultural waste.”. Using any and all of these renewable resources can be the start to a new beginning of the end of fossil fuels.
The United States is the world’s largest energy consumer with about five percent of the world’s population using eighteen percent of the energy, a staggering statistic from the U.S Energy Information Administration, which causes a search for a long-term solution that is both efficient and environmentally conscience (Energy Information Administration).Fossil fuels, which the world depends on for much of its energy production, will not last forever and a renewable source of energy is needed. Thankfully, a solution, wind energy is in sight with the modernization of an old technology that goes back hundreds of years. Wind energy is a form of solar energy; as sure as the sun will shine, the wind will blow and this energy can be harnessed. Opposition to wind energy claim that there are many risks and problems with the system, and would not be feasible on a large scale and which is why the technology was abandoned for fossil fuels. New wind energy technology, however, will replace non-renewable energy sources as an environmentally friendly, sustainable and economic energy source.
As the world population rises, we are using more and more energy and it is depleting faster than ever. Our fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) will not last forever and at some point we will have to switch over completely to renewable energy sources. While most of the world still uses non-renewable energy sources, the future will rely on renewable energy and its applications. Right now, over 90% of the world still uses fossil fuels and developing countries even burn wood to generate energy. At the rate we are using our fossil fuels, they will not last us far into the 22nd century. Additionally, big consumers of fossil fuels like China, U.S., Russia, and India are creating large amounts of pollution and it is only increasing. For instance, India has major issues with pollution because of heavy traffic (which releases more fuel emissions into the air), the burning of biomass (wood and other organic matter), and runoff into lakes and rivers. Right now, our biggest goal should be to figure out how to implement more forms of renewable energy in our own society. We should start using renewable energy in America because: it is more environmentally friendly, opens up the job market, and improves the health of the public.
Imagine a life without washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, computers, televisions, lights, and cars. Imagine a planet so polluted that smog is in the air so bad that one cannot see very far, lakes and streams are poisoned, and land so badly scarred from people trying to find more energy sources. One day this may be a reality if we do not do something to change how we use our energy resources. This may be the case if society keeps using non-renewable energy resources at its current consumption rate. Our saving grace may be the development and use of using renewable energy resources. Renewable sources not only will help our planet
In September 2013, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced carbon pollution standards for new power plants. In August 2015, President Barack Obama established the Clean Power Plan. This plan was made to reduce carbon pollution from power plants. Between 1880 and 2012 the global average temperature had increased by more than 1.5 degrees F. This is known as global warming which has been a major setback in the U.S and was a big inspiration for this power plan. Critics believe that the plan is unfair and will destroy our economy but I disagree. The Clean Power Plan is necessary because thousands of premature deaths and asthma-related hospitalizations will be prevented, chemical emissions will be reduced by the year 2030 and it will help Americans with financial and business problems.
scenario, more than 600,000 wind-related jobs could be supported, accelerating the already tremendous growth of the American wind industry” (Zayas). Installing and operating these large wind turbines creates loads of jobs in our country. Men and Women of our country need to get back to work and these turbines are helping immensely. More men and women working means that they will have more money to support their families. As a result, they will be taken off of welfare and be actually working for their money. This will result in less children starving and more roofs over American family's heads. Certainly, renewable energy should be the main way the country generates its electricity because of wind power which also helps the economy making it an economically sound decision .According to the nonprofit Solar Foundation, “The organization’s annual National Solar Jobs Census for 2016 showed that the solar industry’s contribution to the national employment picture is significant, adding up to one out of every 50 new jobs created last year”( Tina Casey). Renewable energy and especially Solar power is creating jobs in our country. In this country, there are too many people on welfare and not working. Solar energy can help fix this massive problem. More jobs mean less of the nation’s money going to people on welfare. This means the country will have more money to spend on roads, bridge, airports and other infrastructure to make this country a better place. Overall, renewable energy
Petroleum has been a mainstay of the United State's economy for almost a century. However, oil has now been recognized as a strong catalyst for global warming, it is becoming scarce and therefore, an expensive necessity to America's economy. In the recent years many universities and scientists have looked for alternatives to oil in the form of renewable energies. These renewable energy sources would be cheaper in the long run, more efficient and environmentally clean. America as a whole must look into these new forms of renewable energy to determine if they are a practical alternative to the use of petroleum as an energy source. If we do not try to find a clean and efficient alternative to fossil fuels, I am concerned
Most of what America uses for energy derives from fossil fuels, the fact is that although fossil fuels appear naturally, they take hundreds of years to replenish. We are depleting our fossil fuel supply both as a country and as a planet, and need to decide what our next course of action is. Right now our
threatens our nation with a crisis. While fossil fuels can still supply the world its energy for now, the depletion of fossil fuels will force us to find an alternative source of energy.
There must be job growth for the economy to flourish. Alternative energy is the answer for that. According to the U.S. Department of Energy. “The clean energy industry generates hundreds of billions in economic activity, and is expected to continue to grow rapidly in the coming years.” [3] Alternative energy will create job growth along with new opportunities for workers and startup of new business. Our economy requires these opportunities for growth. In a
The world after running out of fossil fuels would be a horrible place for living. life would be hard and harsh. This is the case for us if we couldn’t find new energy resources. Nowadays, many countries are reliant on energy from conventional sources like crude oil, natural gas, and coal. These sources are limited and they eventually will run out at some point in the future. Considering this fact and increasing demands for energy, the search for new energy resources is reasonable and it should be taken seriously. In recent years, renewable energy resources have proven as an interesting alternative to conventional energy resources. Renewable energy resources like wind energy, solar energy, and hydropower result from the natural process and
Today 's society uses enormous amounts of energy. *The shadow of our presence on this planet is a result of generations upon generations of production and utilization of energy*. New and alternative sources of energy are being developed to replace the declining accessibility of coal and fossil fuels. Use of renewable energy is a key component in combatting the climate change that has become a major issue in the 21st century. Reducing our impact on the climate as a result of greenhouse gas emissions will not only benefit our generation, but countless generations after us. This technology is not only affordable, but is within reach.
Next, there are a few other reasons why we need to keep fossil fuels besides just to make renewable energies. The first reason is that we are very dependent on them one quote states that “Fossil Fuels account for more than 80 percent of the world’s primary energy consumption and their demand will increase in order to fulfil societal needs” (Whiting 5). That quote shows that we are very dependent on fossil fuels and that even though we are using more renewable energies the demand for fossil fuels can still go up. Another credible source states that the UN is projected the dropping of world dependency on fossil fuels from “80% to 75% by 2030” (Head 626). In other words Head believes that the need for fossil fuels will go down five percent. That percentage is a large amount to decrease in so few years, but it is still a small percentage compared to the whole and helps solidify the claim that renewable energies are not ready to take over and capable to make the switch. It also helps establish how dependent we are on fossil fuels currently. Finally from procon.org is the quote that "It will take at least three decades to completely leave behind fossil fuels” (Heinberg). It is a big claim that we could possibly make that large of a switch in thirty years. It is hard to imagine that the world would be able to make such a drastic switch in only thirty years. There is also the question of how expensive it is going to be to try to get it done in thirty years and what effects it could have on the economy.
Global warming and what to do about it has been a very debated issue for a very long time. While we stand around and debate on whether humans have caused it the earth continues to get hotter. The fact of the matter is we have to at least try to do something. If we stand around and debate all our lives nothing will ever get done and there’s not even a possibility of things getting better. At least if we do something there’s a chance we can make a change. Science has proven that a lot of the by-products of our machines and everyday life are gasses with the ability to hold heat. Therefore, I propose we cut down on the emissions we produce in the United States by using more clean energy sources.
So, do we just let this continue? Do we just keep on living as this isn’t happening? What could we do to fix this? Renewable energy is the answer. Renewable energy can be just as effective as fossil fuels and combat our changing climate. The prices for these options are declining swiftly. In some places, renewable energy such as wind and solar energy, are already cheaper than continuing to use fossil fuel or nuclear power
