Same-sex marriage is on the rise in today’s society. More and more people are becoming susceptible to it and tolerant of it. I am going to delve into the issue of same-sex marriage and why I think the way I do about it. Many things influence our thinking, otherwise impediments. Impediments are filters in our brain that determine the way we think about all different kinds of issues. I have set an opinion on same-sex marriage based on my developmental patterns of thinking. Therefore, I honestly think same-sex marriage is not a crime. In the early 1970s, was when the first lawsuits seeking legal recognition of same-sex relationships brought the question of civil marriage rights. The subject became increasingly notable in U.S. politics following the 1993. Baehr vs. Lewin decision that suggested the possibility that the state’s prohibition might be unconstitutional. That decision was met by the actions of why the state and federal had to restrict marriage to heterosexual couples, which lead into enacting at the federal level of the Defense of Marriage Act. "Marriage should be between a spouse and a spouse, not a gender and a gender."- Hendrik Hertzberg. More than 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States are divorced. Studies show that the US is the fifth highest divorce rates compared to other countries. Tell me again exactly how is same-sex marriage affecting you? Same-sex marriage has no effect in the heterosexual community. Opposing Homosexual marriage is just another form of being bias. There are no different when it was almost inconceivable for an African American “colored” to share the same water fountain or ride next to “whites” on a bus. This is the same concept with the legalization of gay marriage, it will grant the homosexual community a right that has been immorally denied to them. Other argue that “homosexual marriage will be a sign of sinning”. A religious perspective should not have anything to do with this because not everybody is Christians. We live in a secular society that sustains secular views. According to the U.S. legal system, the ten commandments do not define it.
