Sea turtles are becoming extinct on the Florida Gulf Coast. Sea turtles are dying because of humanitarian problems, including garbage, plastics, lights and beach activities. Turtles are very important to the ecosystem, because they monitor the sea grass, which they eat to make sure it doesn’t over grow. Sea grass provides shelter with many different species of marine life and provides food for some (including turtles). Without seagrass the whole ecosystem would be out of sorts. There aren’t many counterclaims for this topic, it’s usually people don’t realize that turtles are very important to the ecosystem and they just don’t care. Turtles are very important to the ecosystem and therefore, should be protected. All sea turtles are endangered. …show more content…
This system also, teaches children about recycling, and about marine debris. This solution would be carried out by fundraising to get money to start the organization, keep fundraising throughout and getting sponsors. The benefits of this solution is that children would learn about the marine life and debris when they are very young and hopefully remember and grow up with the fact that because of our waste many animals are perishing. Most children remember things they were taught very young like, “raise your hand,” “don't talk when the teacher is talking” although many kids in middle school and high school, don’t do this, they know they are suppose to. By teaching children about recycling and the ocean/environment very young it will stick with them throughout their lives. There aren't many counterclaims in this problem. One of the counterclaim is that no one wants to feel responsible for or to take ownership of pollutant. The other counterclaim is that many don’t know about the turtle problem, so they don’t care. My proposal is worth supporting because it solves multiple problems. It doesn't just solve the problem about the sea turtles, but also it solves all the marine life problems and the pollutant affecting
Turtles are one of the most imperiled groups of animals on the planet. Habitat loss is probably their biggest threat; when a wetland is drained, a field paved over, or a nesting beach overrun with condominiums, there is simply no space left for turtles. But harvesting too many for food has played a key role in driving down turtle
Like all turtle species, human predation and collecting is a serious danger to their survival: Loggerhead eggs and the turtles themselves, are sold on the black market for food and their shells are used to make items such as boat paddles and helmets in some places (Hawkes, 2016). The black market is an illegal shop were people sell things that are prohibited to sell (Hawkes, 2016). They usually held in secret places where no one knows (Hawkes, 2016). Around 65% of Loggerhead Turtles are killed each year because of the black market (Nobs, 2004). People kill these poor, harmless animals just for profit and it need to stop (Marine Bio, 2015). But there e actually is no way to stop black markets, you can reduce them but you can’t stop it. This is because black markets are an idea and once an idea is out, you can’t reverse it and take it back. (Holden, 2014). If you were to stop this, the government of every state would need to basically go round their whole city/state and check every corner where there may be a black market, because if nothing gets done we will loose our precious creatures (Queach,
As a disclaimer, before I begin this argument against turtle exclusion devices I want to make a point. I support turtle conservation and support the development of turtle exclusion devices because they are very effective. There are a myriad of sources out there that talk about other preventative measures being more effective at preventing turtle by-catch and that is what I am going to talk about.
Endangered Species Act and also appear on the list composed by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. Human Predation-Though most countries find harvesting sea turtles for food illegal however, these laws are not enforced. U.S. shrimpers are required to put Turtle Excluder Device on their trawl nets since in the past shrimping nets have killed fifty thousand turtles annually. Nothing endangers them the most then plastic bags or helium balloons floating in the water. Effects of consumption include interference in metabolism or gut function. Temperature, which may affect embryo development, in the last hundred years the temperature, has changed six degrees Celsius. The temperature causes the change in the distribution of species in the ocean due to the change in prey and food.
Basically everything that is caused by humans has impacted these turtles. How can we help? First we need to protect the wetlands that are slowly being killed. “The greatest threats to the bog turtle are the loss and fragmentation of its habitat” as stated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service so, by slowing down the destruction of the wetlands we might create a better and bigger environment for the bog turtles. Next we need to identify the sources that are harming the turtles and the wetland habitats. This means we need to find the exact problem and fix it. Finally we need to restore the environment where the turtle used to live, and by doing this we can restore the turtle population back to non-endangered
Plants and animals are being threatened by the human race every single day. David S. Wilcove states in his article, "Only about 15% of the known species in the United States have been studied in sufficient detail to determine whether or not they are imperiled" (Wilcove). As little as "16,000 species," Craig Kasnoff wrote, "are on the endangered species list" (Kasnoff). Some of these are in the United States, where we live. It seems as though people do not feel it is their problem to deal with, when most definitely it is. Human beings in the world are not doing enough for endangered plants and animals because they are not enforcing the Endangered Species Act, polluting the air, and hunting in endangered habitats.
Coral reef destruction is a big deal. There are many environmental threats on coral reefs which means they are slowly dying. Coral reefs play a very important part in marine ecosystems. Sea creatures depend on them for protection, camouflage, as a home, and also for food. Scientists believe this could be from natural causes like erosion, and global warming as reasons that coral reefs die off but one of the main reasons is pollution. There are many different ways pollution can affect coral reefs. There is a chemical in sunscreen called oxybenzone that may be contributing to the destruction of coral reefs as swimmers are trying to protect their skin. This chemical has toxic effects on young coral that can damage their DNA,
When gill nets are used there is no escape for manatees or sea turtles until someone comes to cut them out of the floating walls of the mesh entrap them until they are taken by death or released. But when North Carolinians see a manatee which may be rare to see why would they wish to see one entangled in a net. These poor animals are already endangered why does it have to be made worse by commercial fishermen. Manatees are aquatic mammals kind of like whales they are the gentle giants of the Intracoastal waterway. Manatees are like the whales of inshore but unlike whales manatees are more inept to being harmed by humans and the fishing. Sea turtles use both inshore and offshore waters so they are always in danger from the fisheries from being run over by a boat or being entrapped in a net. Sea turtles are endangered already but when they come into inshore waters they endanger their lives unknowingly they risk death. But thankfully they resist coming into these waters unless they must lay eggs. In order to protect sea turtles many people must take a stand for these beautiful
There are so many interesting things about them. Dolphins have been around for about 15 million years now. They’re extremely intelligent, probably even more intelligent than us humans. Dolphins are becoming endangered because of humans and many don't know that. They are known as the oceans most kind animals.Dolphins have originated millions of years ago,are extremely endangered, and are becoming endangered. The most important thing to know about dolphins would probably be how they originated because without that those cute aquatic mammals wouldn't even exist.
Sea turtles lay an average of about 100 eggs in each nest, and lay an average of 3-7 nests during their nesting season (Tim Flannery). Also in Florida, along about a twenty mile stretch of beach sea turtles lay over 150,000 pounds of eggs in the sand every nesting period. Which would seem like enough to keep their population up, but it is not that simple. Now why are sea turtle populations shrinking you may ask? Well, that’s simple. Climate change is not the only threat that a sea turtle has to fear. Along with climate change sea turtles face the fear of being eaten, not being able to make it back to the water when they are first hatched, being picked up by whatever or whoever may come by, and a whole other array of things that most do not even take into consideration. Over the last few years climate change has simply been one of the main things observed when
I like sea turtles, I really do, and they are on my top three of favorite animals. From what I read, in No Impact Man, on how bad ocean pollution is I was bit startled on how bad ocean pollution is. My favorite scaly friends from the deep may be completely terminated, poor Dory. How can I go on living knowing that I'm killing Disney movie characters? Okay, I can still go on to live. Excuse me for my bluntness, but priorities go first. Also, do I actually want to go door to door handing out pamphlets that would eventually be thrown away my neighbors? Would I not be further damaging the ocean then? Furthermore, would I want to associate with the Colin Beavan rout by living off cloths and using no disposable products, which is everything! And although it may seem like I don't want to help the ocean in anyway, I actually do. But in my case, and many other people’s cases I am sure, there is so much to do in life then just worry about another balloon over my head. Yes, I want to have control over myself to start using fewer products that add to ocean pollution. And hopefully, in my efforts to do so, I would be able to impact someone’s life from my eventual eco-conscious efforts to save the ocean. For the time being, though, I have to take care of my business first this includes school, work, and keeping my sanity.
Sea turtles are becoming more and more endangered as time goes on and is something that really needs to be changed. There are seven species of sea turtle and they are all either endangered or critically endangered. Millions of sea turtles used to inhabit the sea now only a fraction of them are still around. Humans are partly the cause of this because we hunt them for food and profit. It is unbelievable that people can kill such beautiful creatures just for their personal benefit. Humans are not the only reason sea turtles are facing extinction, but we are the main reason. Humans really should not be part of the problem in the first place.
Imagine a world of chaos. We see things like that all the time in movies, where zombies roam the earth and there are just those few main survivors left. The world is in ruins. If ocean life was to die out, there would be a collapse of civilization as a whole. Just like we see on TV, the world would become a place where no order exists. This would lead to human extinction. The ocean dies, we die along with it, and if sea turtles die, so does the ocean. In simple words, one could say that human life depends on sea turtles. In this speech I will be covering three topics. First, how a sea turtle’s diet benefits marine life and humans, second, how sea turtles provide homes and food for other species, and last, how sea turtles protect beaches from washing away.
Exotic animals should be banned from being purchased, hunted, and or traded from their natural habitat. People can look at an exotic animal for a couple minutes, but captivity affects their whole life. Exotic animals caged in non-natural habitats can experience many physical, and mental issues.
With nearly millions of animals dying each year from being captive, or endangered species being hunted down and killed, we need to discover a new way of displaying that our world is full of beautiful animals and wildlife. Wild animals are suffering both physically and mentally from the lack of freedom that confinement imposes. These harmful environments are preventing animals from having the opportunity to live in, and be exposed to their natural habitats. Keeping animals imprisoned in cages and small enclosures just for the sake of human observation causes stress and frustration, which is risking animals overall health and well being. These morally unacceptable and cruel actions of retaining wild animals in captivity is certainly wrong.
