Over the past few years, there has been a major concern over the NSA overstepping the surveillance and privacy of the American people. The constant daily threats from ISIS and other terrorist groups have put the lives of the people who live on U.S. soil in danger. We must believe that the NSA is not violating our rights to privacy. They ought to have the capacity to screen the private data of the general population who represents a danger to the National Security of the United States, regardless if it infringes on their 4thAmendment right as the information that is captured is being utilized to avert future terroristic attacks in the U.S. and keeping America safe.

A person will let down their guard when they know they are getting something for it and in this case, it is saving money. They refuse to consider the repercussions that a shopper’s card will ever be used against them. However, in one court case, a shopper’s loyalty card was subpoenaed on a man who was wrongfully accused of arson after his grocery records showed he had bought a fire starter (Tucker, Reed). People love social media and assume nothing of putting up pictures and post for all their friends to view. They are so uninformed only assuming friends and family are watching. What they may or may not realize that if a friend likes or comments then it will show on their friends’ feeds whether you know them or not. It’s always fascinating to know that people will allow their 4th amendment to be infringed on when it comes to saving money or letting their friends (and their friends, and so forth) enjoy the pictures of them while they are still vacationing. Having that mentality demonstrates a level of trust Americans have placed on social media, yet haven’t thought about those lurking around waiting for the ideal opportunity to commit a crime. In essence, they are letting a possible criminal know that their house is vacant for a week and risk being burglarized.
