What is a refugee you may ask? A refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. Now in this time in the history of mankind, there has been a refugee crisis that has taken the lives of many. Not only are soldiers fighting to protect them but many are children refugees. The United States should not risk the safety of Americans by accepting Syrian Refugees. The United States should not accept Syrian Refugees. Syrian Refugees should not be let into the country even with passing the screening test. While others who may oppose my claim say that America was founded on refugees we should these refugees in. However,” The ISIS-inspired female terrorist in the recent mass killings in San Bernardino, Calif., reportedly entered the country on a so-called “fiancée visa” that listed a false or at least inaccurate foreign home address.” (San Bernardino shooter's thin …show more content…
The problem is we can't background check them. You can't pick up the phone and call Syria. And that's one of the reasons why I said we won't be able to take more refugees. It's not that we don't want to; it's that we can't because there's no way to background check someone that's coming from Syria," he said. This also shows that we can not simply ask Syria for personal information about refugees because of the fact that they don’t have the kind of information that could tell us about these refugees and their backgrounds. This also tells us that we must be smarter on how accept refugees into the country based on a shooting that have happened due to refugees. This also states that even if someone may seem like they are not a terrorist, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be radicalized after being accepted the country which has happened to many teens and adults around the world fleeing to join the Islamic State. It also shows us that the background that Syria may give us can’t be
The U.S. should accept refugees who have background checks because they’re trying to flee from extreme violence, we don’t want history to repeat itself, and they want to start over, they’re not committing terror attacks.
Terrorist, sleeper cells and undeserving; these are all adjectives that Americans have used to describe Syrian refugees. This type of bigotry is an issue that must be addressed. In light of the recent attack on Paris, there has been a dramatic shift to block President Obama’s plan to bring 10,000 additional refugees into the United States. Imagine that, a nation of immigrants blocking other immigrants from entering. In order to gain this kind of overwhelming support for such a bill, propagandists have used countless personal attacks on an entire race and claim that it is in the name of national security. Rather than lock down the borders, the United States should take California’s model for vetting refugees and make it the federal
People all over the world have been asking themselves if it is right for their country to let in refugees from Syria. It is a question everybody fears from answering because of the consequences it may take. Several states in America have denied the entry because of security reasons and the over population. Even if there are several countries still refusing Syrians there are a few who are accepting them. Looking at some articles, I’ve seen differential opinions and one must read and understand why Syria refugees need a chance to be rescued from all the chaos and horror they’ve been through.
Somebody that is forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster is a refugee. There are over 2.3 million Syrian refugees and of those, 45 of them made their home in the united states. In years to come the U.S. will be bringing in more refugees. Most of these refugees do not have any bad intentions when coming to the U.S., but are just looking for a home so they can start to rebuild their life. In order to be brought in, refugees must first go through a security screening.
According to The Economist “If a potential terrorist is determined to enter America to do harm, there are easier and faster ways to get there than by going through the complex refugee resettlement process” (B.B.V.). Clearly terrorists can find quicker ways into our country other than posing as refugees. Terrorists who want to inflict true terror on their victims would use a quick and reliable means. Fear of terrorists does not make us refuse the Syrians; instead we have stepped back and looked at the effect these refugees would have on our
Many U.S. citizens have no problem with Syrian refugees coming to America. According to both “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” and “Our Responsibility to Refugees”, The authors feel that The people of the United States are turning their backs on the refugees. In “Why America Could-and Should-Admit More Syrian Refugees.” the author says, “The United States has resettled over three million refugees, offering victims of persecution and conflict the opportunity to build a new life. Refugee resettlement is unequivocally safe. It would be wrong, both morally and politically, to curtail Syrian refugee resettlement, and why it is in fact both ethically imperative and politically expedient to instead expand U.S. commitment to refugee resettlement” (Long). This author sees nothing to fear from refugees. Furthermore, the writer of “Our Responsibility to Refugees” states, “The U.S. can do more and we must. Since 2011, more than 4.2 million Syrians have been displaced by war and violence, and fewer than 3,000 of them have resettled in the U.S. President Barack Obama has committed to resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. His administration needs to
Why should the United States not accept Syrian refugees? Not every Syrian is a terrorist, most of them really need help. Because of the civil war in Syria, a major genocide is happening. People are leaving their homes for a better life where they can be safe and economically stable. I think that the United States should accept Syrian refugees in because they have been dealing with inequality, they also have a good work ethic that at a lot of Americans do not have which can benefit the country, and the United States is a country where a lot of people migrate so why not let the Syrian refugees in since they need to.
The debate about letting Syrian Refugees into America has been a heavily debated topic in the last year. One surprising fact is that, ‘The third largest city in the country of Jordan, Za’atari is just a refugee camp filled with Syrians escaping the Syrian Civil War and the population of Za’atari of 90,000.’ Syrians should be let into our county because: we have been letting Syrian Refugees into our country a very few have been of them have been radicalized and carried out terrorist attacks on our country, U.S. states cannot legally reject and deport Syrian Refugees coming here to seek refuge without the approval of the federal government, and not all the Syrian Refugees fit the supposedly true stereotypes
Walter Kirn, an American novelist and literary critic, stated that ‘‘Everyone loves a witch hunt as long as it’s someone else’s witch being hunted.’’ (Web. Walter Kirn Quote) Although the Salem Witch Trials took place over 300 years ago, in 1692, and we claim that we have come a long way since then, the truth is we have not. The hysteria that took place during the witch trials occurred because people refused to take responsibility for their actions. The same thing is happening in modern day America due to a 4 year long civil war, in Syria, and a mounting war on terrorism, in the United States. Syrians are fleeing their country because of the impending civil war, of 4 years, between those loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and those who oppose him, the rebels. Accepting refugees from war torn countries has always been something the United States has done, even if it caused some controversy. However, there has never been more controversy on whether or not to accept refugees from Syria. This is because of the terrorist groups in Syria who have continued to execute fatal attacks on Westernized countries, specifically the United States. A number of U.S. citizens do not want to accept Syrian refugees for fear that some refugees could pose potential threats or have relations with the terrorist group, ISIS.
Since the 1970s, America’s prison population rate has risen 700%. Despite the U.S. comprising only 5% of the world’s population, it is the largest jailer with 25% of the world’s prison population with one in 99 adults in prison and one in 31 under some type of correctional control (Mass Incarceration Problems, 2014, p. 1). According to 2013 data, 2.2 million are currently incarcerated in U.S. prisons or jails (Incarceration, 2013, para. 1), a figure that indicates a rising problem with prison overcrowding. While prison overcrowding increases the economic burdens on local and state governments, common factors leading to the high prison population is linked to the need for improved juvenile programs that deter criminal behavior and fund for rehabilitation for reentry into mainstream society. With effective programs to deter juvenile crime and to aid in offender reentry coupled with sentencing reforms, overcrowding in the nation’s prisons would decline.
One problem with letting in refugees is the security risk. Refugees are coming in from dangerous countries like Syria, Iraq, and countries in the middle east. The reason they are leaving is because of safety reasons, but how do we know that they are not going to create a safety risk in our country. Refugees have to go through a lot of tests and they get searched before they enter the country, but can we trust the machines to detect anything that create a security risk?(Huffington Post 2) . Letting in the refugees can create terror acts just like what is happening in
A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee their country due to persecution, war or violence. They are placed in different countries around the world to find refuge which means they will be safe and stable in a refugee camp. Refugees go through a rough time trying to get into the U.S. due to the U.S.’s current policy of admitting refugees. In the article “The U.S. admissions process” states that the screening process takes 18 to 24 months to approve of one refugee and if a refugee is approved for resettlement in the U.S. then they can enter the U.S. and get help , but if they don’t then they’ll be back in their country (U.S. Committee For Refugees And Immigrants).
Terrorists Terrorism/Crime are a big reason that refugees should not be let into the united states. One of the big reasons is that there are a lot of people trying to either get a visa or sneak into our country. “There have been over 400 cases of people sneaking across the border from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, and Syria”. Associated Press 2015)This shows that people who shouldn't be crossing the border are sneaking in with the refugees to cause terrorism to our country. There are very few reasons that people from those countries should ever be entering our country, and them trying to sneak in and illegally come into our country tells us they are probably planning
Located in the Western Hemisphere, is a small beautiful island populated by people from all around the world. Unfortunately, this country and its people have suffered a great amount in multiple ways, ranging from devastating natural disasters to violent political regimes. In addition to those issues, this country is home to around one million orphans, constituting about 1/11th of its population. As a native of this poor country, I feel that it is my duty to aid as many of those lonely kids as possible; I am fortunate enough to have been afforded opportunities that these kids may never be offered, victimized by the lack of infrastructure of my country. For that reason, I try, whenever I can, to volunteer at local orphanages and devote as much of my time and resources as possible. I want to help the people of Haiti.
For every piece of literature there are numerous amounts of critics, formally called readers. Like a critic, the readers pick apart different pieces of a literary work to figure out the deeper meaning the author is trying to display. One thing that readers can pick up from a story is the amount of influence an author’s life has on their work. A good author develops the story or poem by digging deep in his or hers emotions. Throughout history, there have been numerous amounts of inspirational authors that have gone through hardships in their life, whose work has changed the way people view literature. One of the most notable authors to take his heartbreak and tie it into his writing is Edgar Allan Poe. Like Poe, some famous authors give the readers a window to view inside their head and their life. By looking at Poe’s gothic and romantic writings, his audience can see characteristics of himself mingled in parts of different literary elements.
