People all over the world have been asking themselves if it is right for their country to let in refugees from Syria. It is a question everybody fears from answering because of the consequences it may take. Several states in America have denied the entry because of security reasons and the over population. Even if there are several countries still refusing Syrians there are a few who are accepting them. Looking at some articles, I’ve seen differential opinions and one must read and understand why Syria refugees need a chance to be rescued from all the chaos and horror they’ve been through.

Somebody that is forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster is a refugee. Why should the United States not accept Syrian refugees? Not every Syrian is a terrorist, most of them really need help. Because of the civil war in Syria, a major genocide is happening. People are leaving their homes for a better life where they can be safe and economically stable. Accepting refugees from war torn countries has always been something the United States has done, even if it caused some controversy. Since the 1970s, America’s prison population rate has risen 700%. Despite the U.S. comprising only 5% of the world’s population, it is the largest jailer with 25% of the world’s prison population with one in 99 adults in prison and one in 31 under some type of correctional control (Mass Incarceration Problems, 2014, p. 1). According to 2013 data, 2.2 million are currently incarcerated in U.S. prisons or jails (Incarceration, 2013, para. 1), a figure that indicates a rising problem with prison overcrowding. While prison overcrowding increases the economic burdens on local and state governments, common factors leading to the high prison population is linked to the need for improved juvenile programs that deter criminal behavior and fund for rehabilitation for reentry into mainstream society. With effective programs to deter juvenile crime and to aid in offender reentry coupled with sentencing reforms, overcrowding in the nation’s prisons would decline.

One problem with letting in refugees is the security risk. Refugees are coming in from dangerous countries like Syria, Iraq, and countries in the middle east. The reason they are leaving is because of safety reasons, but how do we know that they are not going to create a safety risk in our country. Refugees have to go through a lot of tests and they get searched before they enter the country, but can we trust the machines to detect anything that create a security risk?(Huffington Post 2) . A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee their country due to persecution, war or violence. They are placed in different countries around the world to find refuge which means they will be safe and stable in a refugee camp. Refugees go through a rough time trying to get into the U.S. due to the U.S.’s current policy of admitting refugees. In the article “The U.S. admissions process” states that the screening process takes 18 to 24 months to approve of one refugee and if a refugee is approved for resettlement in the U.S. then they can enter the U.S. and get help , but if they don’t then they’ll be back in their country (U.S. Committee For Refugees And Immigrants).

Terrorists Terrorism/Crime are a big reason that refugees should not be let into the united states. Located in the Western Hemisphere, is a small beautiful island populated by people from all around the world. Unfortunately, this country and its people have suffered a great amount in multiple ways, ranging from devastating natural disasters to violent political regimes. In addition to those issues, this country is home to around one million orphans, constituting about 1/11th of its population. As a native of this poor country, I feel that it is my duty to aid as many of those lonely kids as possible; I am fortunate enough to have been afforded opportunities that these kids may never be offered, victimized by the lack of infrastructure of my country.
