All over America school bullying has taken its toll on many students and families, both the victims and bully’s. However, no matter what is done, what is said, people still don’t stop and focus their attention on bullying prevention or even take it seriously. Parents need to be held accountable and bare most of the responsibility because parent’s influences are the most powerful source of every child’s motivations as well as who they will become. Parents should be fined and be required to take classes. When doing this it will make the parent act more responsible for their child’s actions, this is because of the parent being made to pay a fine, which results in loss of some money. Also, classes will help the parents understand how to properly raise their child as well as get a better understanding of effects of bullying, which can affect their child as well as others, and just the understanding of bullying in general. No parent enjoys loss of money and having to take time to go to required classes. All due to their lack of self-motivation to monitor and be involved with their child.
My plan is to hold parents accountable, which will be accomplished by fining them and requiring them to take classes. When you fine a parent, you are hitting them hard in the wallet. This is their consequence because of them not properly taking care of their child. The threat of a fine is a necessary evil, it motivates parents to take charge and responsibility for their child. Parents then would be required to take a series of classes. These will help the parent become more aware of their own behaviors, and given the skills and knowledge necessary to help them and their children. These classes will be meant to teach and educate the parents on proper parental guidance as well as inform them of bullying (Kulick, 2016).
When compared to the other solutions in regards to holding parents accountable, it seems that fining and classes are the best bet. Currently there are no laws, which address bullying. However, bullying can sometimes overlap into discriminatory harassment. So, instead the government or anti bullying groups go around the united states and speak to students, teachers, and school officials about bullying. Also, they
Parents can prevent their children from bullying by learning about their lives and why they are bullying, educating them about bullying, and helping them feel empathy. If parents pay close attention to their child’s life and make a point to help them with any problems they have, the child may bully less because their problems are being heard. Educating them about bullying can help them understand why is wrong, and make them see the victim's point of view. If they understand how hurtful bullying is to the victim, they are more likely to stop.
First,Do you feel that if a kid is miscalculate with that kid and don’t get punished they need to change that because you need to get punish ,also if that parent know that their child be bullying people at school and don’t do nothing about it then you need to change that.
They need to empower teachers and especially students to help enforce policies by teaching them to see what behaviors are not acceptable and how they should react. Schools need to increase adult supervision because bullying happens when adults are not around. Schools should have assemblies and activities that bring the community together to show that bullying is wrong. Teachers can have their students write a set of school or class rules or sign a behavior contract. Making scenarios of bullying and what to do can help students know what they should do.
One important cause for the state or federal government to put laws in school to prevent bullying is make children safer in school. Temkin (2003) writes about the intention of the Senator Bob Casey want to introduce the Safe Schools Improvement Act. The time to pass this bill is now for making children feel safe and empowered in school. The U.S Department of Education showed that shown to be effective in reducing bullying. It is known that the horrible effects child abuse can have on a child’s current and future well
In a study taken by the American Medical Association it was reported that over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Out of these 3.2 million they found that approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day and 1 in 10 students drop out to school to escape from repeatedly being bullied. Reading these statistics, you can almost hear them call for someone to step up against this horrid and harassing act known as bullying. However, in a room full of bystanders, not one voice has the courage to stand up and intervene when someone is being bullied. As parents, the main goal to have should be obtaining every bit of information you can on what is happening in the lives of your child and teach them how they are capable of turning things around and stepping up against bullying by becoming an upstander.
D'Amico (2011), more schools are increasing their responsibilities in the fight against bullying by attempting to directly deal with the bully and their behavior. Most states have an anti-bully law in effect which makes it mandatory for schools to have a "Bully Policy" in effect. This means, most schools have an appointed person or "coordinator" to deal with any reported bullying directly. This is usually done by the school launching an investigation of the reported of bullying. If the investigation finds that the child was indeed bullying a peer, the school while mandate counseling for both the bully and the victim, as well as contact both parties’ parents. While there are cases where this type of prevention has been effective, Kalman (2009), argues that the schools anti-bullying policies make the victim of the bully look like a "snitch." He also reports that the bully usually feels angrier, not remorseful, towards the victim for getting him or her into trouble. Another fault in attempting to place responsibility on the school is time and class size. While teachers may notice and report a problem with a bully, they simply cannot concentrate all their time and effort on disciplining and refereeing the bully when they can have up to twenty other students at a time that they are responsible for. Teachers and school officials only have a portion of the day to work with the child or teen who is displaying the bully behavior. They can only do so much. They can't monitor
When parents take out their frustration with the child at home, the child then uses that form of temper towards another child at school in return. When parents are dumbfounded where their child may be throughout the day has shown those children partake in bullying as well. When parents show too much praise to a child at home, the child then feels everything they do should be praised. In that case the child feels even bullying another peer results in a praiseworthy moment. In return, some children with low self-esteem have actually been the children to bully others. They use bullying to provide a guard for them to not look as an “easy target” to others at school. Parents should be very involved in their child’s life, because many children have been suicidal due to being bullied in school. Bullying is not part of being in school, and the belief that there is nothing that can be done to stop bullying, but there is a way to stop it, and it should be stopped in every school. Parents, teachers and children should not sit back when this issue is happening. Each person should take a stand to prevent this problem from
Bullying has become a serious problem and students should know how to act and not be disrespectful to others. The article “ The School Bus Bullying Video Shows the Problem with Schools,Not Parents” by Shaw explains that parents are not responsible for their kids and school is for their act and behavior. Parents are always repsponsiboe for their kids. I disagree with Shaw’s opinion that school is responsible for the students because the parents are the one who is.
Topic: In schools every day across the United States, children have been victimized by some form of bullying. It is vital for school leadership to recognize and deal with bullying immediately, as well as, enforcing school codes of conduct and maintaining an environment that supports accountability to ensure that all students feel safe and secure while getting the education they deserve.
Bullying and cyber-bullying have increased tremendously in past six years. With the increased popularity of Facebook, bullies are finding a new way of tormenting victims. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in teens, with bullying being one of the leading causes. Legal standings on who is accountable have not been clear and when cases are brought forth the infrequent use of laws holding parents and schools responsible is glaring. It is time to make bigger strides on holding parents and school officials responsible for the bullying that occurs within the community. Civil suits are filed at an alarming rate but criminal charges are not considered in some bullying cases. Children are not being led by example but left to think their
Parents play a key role in preventing and responding to bullying. Parents should recognize the warning signs that the child is involved in bullying. Children could be being bullied, bullying others, or witnessing bullying. Although these signs could signal other issues, parents should talk to their children if they display any sort of behavioral or emotional changes. Many times children won’t ask for help, so it is important to know what to look for. If the child is at immediate risk of harming himself or others, parents need to get help right away. Just sending the children who are bullies to go to jail, and doing jail time are not a good way to correct children’s behaviors. “ I understand the rationale . . . , but incarceration is a fairly big stick," says Susan Limber, a bullying expert at Clemson University. "You can get the same payoff with a lot less drastic measures" (Simon 2). Moreover, if the children go to jail, they might not change their mind, even though their behavior will be
Back in the past many have focused on drug and alcohol use in school students along with students carrying weapons to schools, and it seemed as if no one was recognizing the significance of school bullying. For victims of bullying, they go to school every day facing harassment, taunting, and humiliation. Kids today come home and kill themselves or never want to go back to school because of BULLYING. “Studies show that 25-35% of teens encountered some type of bullying in their lifetime (Nansel et al,).” Bullying is a form of violent behavior that happens not only in the schools but everywhere. Kids everywhere have been exposed to bullying in school for generations and ages . Although bullying has always been a factor the consequences for
What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school each day because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for far too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve, which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. Students who bully should be suspended from school.
Bullying has been escalating to a certain degree that it has affected as many as 160,000 students that reported staying home from school every day, because they were afraid of being bullied (www.stompoutbullying.org). Bullying does not only stops one from wanting to go to school, it also makes one feel anxious, insecure, and unhappy at school, isolated and at times severely depressed (Young, Shin Kim, and Leventhal). Schools must have better resources available to students; this includes the victim and the bully. The victim should have both better counseling and stricter laws to protect them. Bullies also need counseling due to research which states “that many bullies tend to come from families where parents are more
Every day, millions of people wake up afraid of bullies. Bullying can happen anywhere, anytime. Bullying is a big issue these days, and bullies’ actions are very unpredictable. No one knows who a bullies’ next target might be and what their reasoning is. Today, bullying can be considered more extreme than it was even ten years ago, with the advent of the internet and resulting cyber-bullying. Many celebrities and organizations are speaking out for the cause, warning others about the dangers of bullying and the sometimes-fatal consequences.
