Doctors reviewed more than 60 most commonly sought medical treatments and found out patients are treating themselves with unnecessary medical treatments. Thus, they released recommendations which parents will likely to balk. One of the recommendation is children aged 2-12 with ear infections shouldn't be treated with antibiotics. As part of the NPS Choosing Wisely campaign, 14 medical colleges have nominated the inappropriate treatments that people most commonly sought in a bid to improve medical practice. Likewise, to reduce health care costs. Hence, doctors are now encouraging all the people to think whether scans, tests and treatments were necessary. Moreover, they are also recommending for the parents to use antibiotics appropriately to reduce antibiotic …show more content…
"The benefits of fever in slowing the growth and replication of bacteria and viruses are well documented," the Australian College of Nursing said, according to news.com.au. The campaign also addressed the practice of prescribing antibiotics for infants. The Choosing Wisely said infants shouldn't be given antibiotics because antibiotics are "low value" and antibiotics can be dangerous for the child's health. Moreover, overuse of antibiotics is fueling the rise of resistance to the antibiotics. The group is also calling for the stop of X-rays of foot injuries. And other recommendations include not to prescribe antibiotics for upper respiratory tract infections and antibiotics should not be used for more than seven days without review. Moreover, not to request imaging for patients with non-specific lower back pain. Dr. Jones said he hopes the list of unnecessary procedures and the treatments like the antibiotics prescriptions will help for a better conversation between patients and doctors. "I think it will change the perception of what patients require from their doctor," he

Over the years there has been many unfortunate boating accidents; going offshore, attempting to sail around the world, and even during lessons! This now makes us think, should teens be allowed to boat?
Sarah Dillay Andrew House American Literature 18 April 2024 Persuasive Essay In a constantly changing world, it is crucial to remember that holding too tightly onto things only leads to hurt, for everything is fleeting. As stated in the book Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, “Don’t cling to things, because everything is impermanent” (Schwartz 103). Clinging onto emotions and people leads to disappointment due to everything in life being impermanent. Embracing change leads to peace, fulfillment, and liberation.
Children are among the most vulnerable segment of the health care population. They rely on the good judgment and the care of adults to guide them to the best and safest possible treatments. Part of our responsibility, as adults, is to inform ourselves so that we can participate in a constructive way in that equation.
Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), including acute otitis media (AOM) are the most common cause of ambulatory physician visits and antimicrobial prescriptions in children1,2. The most common bacterial causes of URTI are Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae, though the majority of cases are caused by viral pathogens 3–10. Distinguishing between viral and bacterial URTI can be difficult. Reports on quality of antimicrobial prescriptions have shown a 30-50% of all out-patient prescriptions due to (upper) respiratory tract infections to be inappropriate2,10,11. In Europe the quality of prescription is higher in the north of the continent, including Iceland compared to in the south12. Conversely, many factors contribute to the overuse of antimicrobials2,13–15, which in turn results to increase in antimicrobial resistance16,17. Contributing factors cited by by physicians to cause over-prescription include uncertainty of diagnosis, fear of disease complications, lack of perception of harmful effects of antimicrobials, not perceiving their own prescription practices to be a problem, pressure by patients, limited time, fear of damaging doctor-patient relationship in addition to language, cultural and educational barriers2,13–15. Antimicrobials were long a mainstay treatment against AOM in fear of rare, but dangerous complications, which have later been found to be unfounded, asnd
In the last decade, the number of prescriptions for antibiotics has increases. Even though, antibiotics are helpful, an excess amount of antibiotics can be dangerous. Quite often antibiotics are wrongly prescribed to cure viruses when they are meant to target bacteria. Antibiotics are a type of medicine that is prone to kill microorganisms, or bacteria. By examining the PBS documentary Hunting the Nightmare Bacteria and the article “U.S. government taps GlaxoSmithKline for New Antibiotics” by Ben Hirschler as well as a few other articles can help depict the problem that is of doctors prescribing antibiotics wrongly or excessively, which can led to becoming harmful to the body.
Everybody has learned a lesson at one point in their lives. Whether it is from something that they did, or something that someone else did. They learned a lesson. A common time that this happens could be in your teens, or nearing the end of your life. Sometimes to think about others, you have to hit rock bottom first, before you realize that you are not okay. In all three of the stories we read, the theme of regret was shown. The stories analyzed this theme by introducing the idea of being conceded in the beginning and dissatisfied in the end.
When thinking of antibiotics you generally think of some sort of mediation that is used to fight some form of disease or bacterial infections. The improper use of antibiotics can be deadly, cause an allergic reaction, or simply reinfect you. It is extremely important to follow the directions and take what all was prescribed to you. Vaccinations are an essential to the curing diseases as well. The vaccinations work hand in hand with your immune system to help fight germs that are produced. Although, it can contain germs that can trigger the immune system. One way the government dictates the administration of vaccines to children is requiring them to vaccine before they can enter school. Even now some babies are being vaccinated before they leave
An increase in antibiotic resistant bacteria has been currently progressing and researchers are beginning to link the causes to the overuse of antibiotics. Studies of antibiotic overuse are few and as a result concrete information on antibiotic use in the U.S. is lacking. The problem with the low studies of antibiotics is that a full research on antibiotic prescription in the U.S. has not been created and a definite plan cannot be obtained. This paper covers the analysis on the information from five different sources to identify major constituents of the unnecessary prescription of antibiotics and provides possible steps to reduce antibiotic overuse.
If we do not change the way we misuse and overprescribe antibiotic medications, it will lead to an even greater public health problem in the future. It is important to further understand antibiotic effects on the human body through research and determine its effect on children across American. Because children are more susceptible to adverse health effects, it is crucial for health care physicians to receive the proper training and go through the proper channels when deciding to prescribe adolescents antibiotics. It is even more important for parents and guardians to be aware of how antibiotics can negatively affect their children and lead to serious health consequences.
My motivation for this discovery is that I am always intrigued by medicine and the body. How and why the body does what it does. What are the pros and cons to taking certain medications from what you and I see as antibiotics and it doing nothing but good, and then there are pain medication which is a whole different subject on its own. Though the article focus is children, we can concede that the problem lies with adults too. Fifty million ineffective and unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions are written for children each year by the request of parents hoping for relief for their child and shortened duration of the illness. In 2013 the center for disease control and prevention reported that antibiotics were the most
Two-hundred clinicians completed questionnaires and 42.6% replied that they had been influenced by childcare policies when deciding whether to prescribe antibiotics in this scenario.
Currently I’m very passionate about menstruation because there is unjust and awful stigma against it around the world. Locally (I live near LA,which has one of the highest concentrations of homeless people in the nation), there are many homeless who have through suffer through their period without pads and tampons, which means they are forced to use substitutes such as old socks and paper towels to block the flow. This is unsanitary (using something dirty to block the flow of blood can easily cause infection) and dehumanizing, especially because periods are a biological function that a person has no control over. Together
It is generally not questioned when a doctor says, “Take this medicine. You need it to get better.” or “Your baby needs antibiotics to clear up that ear infection.”. Doctors do know what they are doing, but it is good to research on one’s own time especially on such a controversial topic as such. Especially on topics that affect your children. On the topic of whether or not to vaccinate children, most people are uninformed and unaware of the risks and effects that come with vaccines so consequently they blindly get vaccines for their children without really knowing what they are injecting themselves with.
