In 2016, a study conducted by a team of Italian researchers found that video games in the notoriously violent Grand Theft Auto series desensitized young men to the violence of domestic abuse. “Just One More Game” by Sam Anderson is an article about the history of gaming and how it relates to reality. Throughout the text, Anderson argues how destructive, yet self-improving gaming can be to us. He supports his analysis on games by going to show how heavy video game usage can lead to obesity and shorter attention spans in children because they get so distracted by the games. Anderson is trying to make us aware of what videogames can do to our brains. Whether gambling, alcohol or shopping, it is surprising to find video games being a part of this growing list. Video game addiction is a growing epidemic that is running rampant through the world, including parts of Asia. Death from video games is becoming more common and sounds like a horror story (Flanagan). Contributing to the increase are illnesses and social disorders, two well-known conditions being social anxiety and depression. By shutting themselves out from the real world, the only light being the screen of their television or computer and eyes glued to the screen, their basic needs are ignored.

In today’s culture, people who regularly play video games have been stereotypically viewed as overweight, lazy, slobs, who can’t keep a job and never leave their homes. Although, there are some people who think that playing a game is the waste of time and make mind to not work normally. One of the most exhilarating moments of my entire life was my very first time at a roller coaster theme park. Growing up I would always see commercials on television of children and adults alike having a sparkling Colgate smile on their faces and enjoying themselves, so when my family decided we were going to Islands of Adventure for vacation.
