“Get down on your knees!”
At the moment, my wrists were getting locked with silver bracelets. The red and blue lights on top of three cars blinked so brightly that a lot of people were staring at us as if we were animals in the cage at the zoo. The cops kept saying things I couldn’t even understand. All I could hear was sounds, not words nor sentences. I was just a young teenage boy who was healthy enough to hear and talk; however, unfortunately no words I heard could go through my brain because of language barrier.
“You have the right to remain silent”
“I am sorry.”
“Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”
“I am sorry sir.”
“You have the right to consult with an attorney” A friend of mine who was just messing around with me was already taken into the police car with his hands cuffed, and I, who did not speak English, had to follow what my friend was doing not to cause any further trouble. The police officers might think I was following their directions, yet I just did not know what they were saying to me. After I got into the police car, they drove us to a police station in Anaheim. This happened about an year after I immigrated to the United States. I attended Buena Park High school, and every friend I made there was Korean as known as F.O.B, fresh off the boat.
