Free Tampons?
Let’s begin with the obvious, all women have had their period. This process is as natural as eating, peeing, drinking and sleeping. Now have any of you ever walked into a bathroom and had to pay for the toilet paper? No, you haven’t. I’m sure that it also never occurred to anyone to carry around toilet paper in case they had to do their business away from home. For sanitary reasons we want people to wipe their behinds. For sexist reasons, we don’t offer the same concern for women who don’t want to bleed on furniture or their clothes. After years of women being shamed into not talking about periods more and more are speaking up.
Periods have been linked to a part of the reason girls have missed school. Condoms are free so why aren’t tampons and pads? Most women in third world countries cannot afford the pricey cost of tampons and pads. Even in first world countries women cannot afford to by the proper sanitary products. Are they just a luxury for women? Women also do not sign up to have their periods we can’t control them. In public, we talk about periods as much as we do diarrhea. Never. We have to shove tampons up our sleeves so no one knows that it is our time of the month. We stick wads of toilet paper in our underwear when we are out of supplies. Has anyone ever seen the commercials with the pads when they are pouring the light blue liquids out of cups onto pads; meanwhile
I want to have 4 children one day. Two girls and two boys. My children could be vulnerable to sex trafficking if I don’t teach them the dangers of what a conniving, charming, and manipulative person could do by turning them no longer into a friend but a product that is bought and sold for sex. According to Equality Now about 18,000 people in the US and 20.9 million people worldwide adults and children are bought and sold due to sex trafficking. That means one out of forty-three people will be bought and sold into sex trafficking in the US alone and I do not want that one to be any of you. Slavery in any form makes me sick to think about. Sex trafficking is one that upsets me the most. The buying and selling of humans for a sexual and torturous purpose should without a doubt looked upon in a stricter light. Together we need to shed light on this dark topic and know the warning signs of a pimp and of a victim so we can stop something that to the subject seems impossible to stop.
Sex trafficking is becoming more of a problem as time moves on. Sex trafficking is the recruitment, harbouring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act, in which the commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion [Internet Safety 101]. Sex trafficking is increasing due to the evolution of modern day social services and sources. From safety sources, it is the second fastest growing criminal industry, [Internet Safety 101]. Increasingly, sex trafficking is coming about due to the evolution of the internet and the improved ability of GPS tracking. On social media, many people find other people and try to be their friend, even if they don't know who they are. This provides opportunities for fake people to create more of a problem. The internet is providing different advertising places that can increase the effect of sex trafficking and lure in citizens to becoming victims. Sex trafficking has to come to an end for the safety of citizens, for the safety of their pride and dignity.
“I have opinions that, frankly, a lot of people are thinking. They just won't tell people. They don't pollsters. They don't tell journalists. But they think it” (Lieberman). These are the words of conservative blogger and self-proclaimed “provocateur,” Milo Yiannopoulos. Yiannopoulos had been scheduled to speak at the UC Berkeley campus, but given UC Berkeley Police Department’s security concerns surrounding his appearance, the event had been cancelled. Yiannopoulos argues that his First Amendment right had been violated and vows to return for a future event, “Free Speech Week.” Additionally, Ku Klux Klan activist Chris Cantwell has been invited to speak. The University argues that due to Yiannopoulos’ past doxing activities and the threat of violence associated with his presence, it is not required to accommodate such speech. In this memo, I will provide legal precedents arguing that 1) “Free Speech Week” should be permitted to proceed with or without Chris Cantwell, 2) the associated KKK rallies should be permitted to proceed, and 3) a counter-argument addressing the strengthening of civil disobedience.
Well you probably will most likely clean your cuts and scrapes with cool water. Then, you will use a soft washcloth to clean the surrounding skin around the wounds. Lastly, you will put a bandage or two on the wounds to prevent an infection.
This is not something new that you have read their are many young teenage girls who get pregnant who don’t have the money to support the baby, and this has been happening in the U.S. for many years, and no one has really tried to stop it. Young teens are too scared to ask for simple birth control from their parents because they get shamed for having sexual intercourse, so they don’t ask for
I am sure that everyone of you have heard about aliens and UFOs. Indeed, we all have heard about the famous case of aliens and UFOs in Roswell, New Mexico. Most people might be interested in the topic of aliens, but I know that the majority of you just think of it as rumours and the existence of them are impossible. Therefore, I am standing here in front all of you to make you change your perspective. I am strongly confident that I have found the evidence of their real existence to convince all of you.
Picture this, you are in an unsafe environment where you are receiving death threats from public officials and being publicly beaten by your military. With nowhere else to go you desperately seek the asylum of a neighboring country and, with no thought or any consideration, you are abruptly turned away, and forced to stay where your life is in danger. This is the fate of Mexican journalist Javier Valdez, and many other Mexican citizens in need of help from the US. By putting up a wall, the US is to blame for many lives living in danger south of the US border. The US should not build a wall along the border shared with Mexico.
As a volunteer, I boxed items such as, latex gloves, masks, and shoe covers so that they could be sent to communities in need of those items. Before GlobeMed, I was oblivious to the fact that many countries deliver medical care without basic medical supplies. In addition to volunteering at GlobeMed, I had the opportunity to sit in on a lecture by Dr. Bethany Caruso who discussed the impact of menstruation on adolescent girls in underserved populations. Being that I am majoring in biology, I for some reason only thought of menstruation from a biological standpoint. This lecture was very impactful to me because, as a woman I am cognizant of the toll that menstruation can take on a young lady’s body. It was not until Dr. Caruso’s lecture that I was apprised of how menstruation—depending on the location—could be a societal issue. As an aspiring medical doctor, I believe that it is paramount to not only understand the human body and the conditions that it may face, but to also understand how environment and location plays a component in these
Do you believe in vaccination? When was the last time you were vaccinated? I think all people should be vaccinated. Vaccines are very effective and safe. Vaccinations protects people you care about, including family members, friends, and grandparents. If children are too young to be vaccinated or to people with weakened immune cells, such as transplant recipients and people with cancer. Long-term complications and even death can occur for these vulnerable people if they are exposed to they diseases.
Some people think they know everything about birth control, but don’t know all about the things it can help and solve. Birth control also known as known as “the pill” are just daily pills that contain different hormones, it isn’t harmful to those who take it. From a teenage, girls should be allowed to get birth control without a parents’ permission. Birth control reduces the number of teen pregnancies, safer home life, show responsibility, and also reduces some health issues.
As we all know abortion is one of the many topics everybody has an opinion. It is an unhappy topic to talk about and it’s more commonly known to make people furious, but it is an issue that is most likely to be discussed. As mentioned, people discuss abortion because everyone always has a say to it. There are people who are against it and there are people who support it. These groups are known as the pro-life and pro-choice organizations. Now what is an abortion? An abortion is the termination of pregnancy. It may sound so bad but there are many reasons on why some women do it. Pro-life supporters believe it’s immoral and inhumane because of the
1. In the study conducted by Sedgh and co-researchers (2015) of the Guttmacher Institute in New York, among 21 countries with teen pregnancy estimates for 2008–2011, the pregnancy rate was the highest in the United States with 57 pregnancies per 1,000 adolescents in 2010.
What would you say if I told you there is a way you can save as much or more than 14,000 in ten years? You wouldn’t have to invest any money out of pocket. Your only investment would be 15 to twenty minutes a week. How many of you could use extra money to pay bills? Are there any purchases you’ve put off because you can’t afford it? Coupon clipping is not a secret to anyone. So why do so many people pass up the opportunity to save money? I don’t believe many people are aware of the purchasing and saving power it holds. Coupons save you money. Let me explain further. Coupon clipping has allowed me to purchase things I wouldn’t have been able to purchase otherwise. I bought my sons a Kawasaki dirt bike that cost
Transgender inequality has been the topic of controversy within recent years. As time moves on, rallies become more frequent, organizations are becoming more widespread, and legislation is being passed to help integrate transgender citizens within society. At the root of most of this controversy seems to be transgender students’ rights within education, and what progress can be made to expand upon those rights, or even sometimes the lack of them. While this controversy is vibrant and spreading like a wildfire, it is nowhere near a recent occurrence. Within education, transgender students have been the subject of exclusion in education throughout history, causing further controversy.
The problem with birth control today is obtaining it in the first place. For most teens getting birth control is an intimidating experience. Girls must have a complete gynecological exam, which most have never had. Girls must also speak with a doctor about wanting birth control. "Even if it's only a male going to the store to get condoms he has to put up with comments like, 'I'll have to charge you an entertainment tax.' A female goes in and she hears, 'Hey honey, you're not the one whose supposed to be buying these.' She gets embarrassed" (health clinic worker). When free condoms are offered to students, they are less embarrassed to receive them. Students with condoms are more likely to use them during sexual activity.
