Hello from western North Dakota. I hope this un-seasonably warm fall has found everyone in good spirits, and that we don’t wind up paying for it down the road. I haven’t seen any frost teeth out there yet, so I consider that a good sign!
I hope everyone has been paying attention to the recent boost in emphasis on education in North Dakota, because in it may exist the ability to help foster interest in our apprenticeships, and ultimately an increased interest in hiring our employers. Both of those, certainly are big positives. Fueled by a large, bipartisan Congressional effort, the US Department of Labor awarded a $200,000 apprenticeship grant to North Dakota Job Service in early June. Following that award over the summer, the North Dakota Department of Commerce hosted a series of “apprenticeship accelerator” meetings around the state, in an effort to increase the amount of registered apprenticeships. In cooperation with the Dept. of Labor, representatives of the ND Department of Commerce and ND Job Service distributed specific instructions and maintain an open link on their websites, in an effort to help private employers develop their own apprenticeship programs. While it would certainly be a good thing if the general public became aware, and hopefully accepting, of the benefits that apprenticeships can provide, this recent fanfare may only serve to obscure the differences between “registered” and “joint” programs. I believe that we may be able to capitalize on
school, no college. Where would you be? This strange thought could be reality if it
Have you ever wondered why you couldn’t take a class at school that truly interests you, such as learning about the culinary arts or discovering the ins and outs of being an emergency medical technician? Vocational education is an option that is becoming increasingly popular for students seeking a wider variety of class choices. Sometimes, when people hear the words “vocational education,” a negative image pops into their minds. Many people believe that vocational education is primarily offered to non-college bound students, dropouts, or students with special needs. What people don’t realize is that vocational education can give students the opportunity to improve their employability skills, become informed about different career options, and learn helpful skills they can use throughout the rest of their lives even before going to college and being released into the real world. Therefore, I believe that vocational education should be offered to students.
The largest homeless shelters have had to start limiting the amount of time a person can stay because of the increase in demand.
Thank you for your dedication to providing an excellent education system for all students in District 203. Your hard work has made the district have very high rankings and be one of the best districts in the state. As a student at Naperville Central High School, I understand that all school days are important and that they all count towards our grades. In spite of that, many Muslim students have no choice but to miss school due to an Islamic holiday called Eid. Therefore, there should be a day off on the only religious holiday that is celebrated by Muslims.
We would be most grateful if you would consider signing a jersey to be raffled off or used in a silent auction at the event. We would also appreciate if you would reach out to current Blackhawks players such as Kane or Toews to see if they would be willing to sign a jersey. All jerseys will be provided for signing.
1. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that 515,000 people were injured in various car crashes in the United States due to texting. Student debt is at an all-time high. Many college students and recent graduates may find themselves asking: "what's the point?" Why go to college if there is no guarantee of a great job, but you are almost certainly guaranteed to graduate with high levels of debt? But take a careful look at the statistics. While the unemployment rate for recent four year college graduates is 6.8%, the unemployment rate for recent high school graduates is nearly 24% (Webley 2012). Of course, there are many other reasons to go to college, such as personal fulfillment. But for those who are considering not going to college because of economic concerns, I advise you to think in the 'long term.'
Don’t know if you can help, but we’ve had a few newborns that was discharged, came in for their initial appointment, however we cannot check the patients in or out, because the system states the patient is still admitted. I’ve spoken to the staff in mother & baby, NICU and the EPIC team and we still don’t have a resolution. I don’t know if it’s a matter of retraining,
The World Wide Fund for Nature or WWF for short has worked at reducing our carbon footprint for over 45 years. Even since 1985, the World Wildlife Fund Network has invested over $1.165 billion in more than 11,000 projects. According to the WWF website, their mission is to conserve nature which they are actively doing in 100 countries with 1.2 million members in the United States and close to 5 million globally. There are several ways that everyone can do their part in supporting WWF. Supporters can donate money, adopt a species, or take action and directly help conserve our environment. I am going to discuss WWF’s cause and importance, how they are working to conserve nature, and how all of you can help support the cause.
Attention Grabber: Everyone has someone that they look up to. For some it’s celebrities, parents, or tall friends.
a. The following poem by Robert Test entitled, "To Remember Me," shows the importance of organ donation.
Ask any highschool student what the powerhouse of the cell is, they’ll reply “Mitochondria,” without processing the question. Ask what slope intercept form is… “y=mx+b”. High Schoolers will be able to tell you the precise structure of an atom, or the names of all three ships Columbus sailed on in his exploration. Ask them why they have a social security number? What a credit score is? Or, how do you do taxes or apply for a loan? And they will stare at you in a blind gaze. If we take a step back and think of what we really learned in four years of high school… what does it amount to? What does a good education look like? Why are we questioned what number/percentage we received instead of what did we learn? Education today prioritizes what scores we receive instead of what we have actually taken away from the work, and fails to provide us with the most basic life skills that we need to succeed.
You may think that selling is complicated and confusing but I’m here to tell you
An American literary theorist and novelist, Kenneth Burke, once said, “Wherever there is persuasion, there is rhetoric, and wherever there is rhetoric, there is meaning.” (Burke) Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr. and Fannie Lou Hamer all delivered powerful persuasive speeches that will go down in history. The use of these motivational individuals’ language and persuasion played a pivotal role within the civil rights movement, the movement that achieved the most important breakthrough in the equal rights legislation. We can observe this in the speakers’ rhetoric devices like ethos, logos and pathos.
There are many steps to becoming an educator. It is a process that is not easy, it is challenging. Many times, you will find yourself wondering if you are cut out for the education field. Once you have become an educator, that same questions will come up many times throughout your years. Being an educator is a not a field you go into knowing exactly what you need to do, you will be, thrown many curve balls and face many obstacles that the long process you went through to become an educator, could never prepare you for many of the situations you will face.
