Are we just going to let someone strip us of our rights? Our freedoms? Especially the ones we have fought for since the beginning of the Revolutionary War. If we let them take this, what will they take next? I believe that gun control should not become more constrained because it would restrict self-defense, ruin family traditions and it would contravene the 2nd amendment of the Constitution.
To begin, decreased gun control would help save more lives and decrease crime then would’ve been caused by adversaries of society. Firearms are used properly by equitable citizens in self-defense about 2.5 million times annually (GOA). Ninety-two percent of the time, out of the 2.5 million times, the citizen solitarily showed the weapon to appear menacing to the aggressor (GOA). The accumulative amount of firearm use for self-preservation is six times the aplenty of criminal gun abuse(Gun Facts). One study found that merely 2% of citizen shootings result in the death of an innocent person, albeit police shootings innocent civilian death rates were 11% (Gun Facts). An outbreak of sexual assaults, in Orlando, Florida, 1966, caused the city to take decisive action by supplying women with concealed carry classes, rape rates decreased by 90% the ensuing year (Gun Facts).
Besides, self-defense gun control should not become more tightly controlled, because of the family traditions and events surrounding firearms. For
Social pressures change as time passes, therefore it is interesting to see how these three texts whom differ by almost four hundred years perceive society and the effect this has on the protagonists; Shakespeare’s King Lear which was first performed in 1606 during the Jacobean era, presents a patriarchal society. Whilst, Arthur Miller uses the characters in ‘Death of a salesman’ to show the failure of the ‘American dream’ during the “golden era” of America in the late 40’s. The ‘American Dream’ was a set of ideals which suggested that anyone in the US could be successful through hard work, and had the potential to live a happy life. The sense of the deterioration in the equality of opportunities links to the fall in power and hierarchy in
Imagine heartbreak, loved ones dying, and losing hope. This has transpired for many in America today, all because of gun violence. It has become a great problem for our society in recent years. Data from Every Town Research has shown In their article Gun Violence by the Numbers “...that on an average day, 93 Americans are killed with guns...For every one person killed, two are injured” Many will deny that gun violence is a dilemma, but it is. Most do not realize this but, over 62% of the deaths that occur are suicides, and just over 1,642 people killed by gun violence were accidental. There is something very wrong here, and something needs to change quickly. If so many of these deaths are incidental, and
Throughout the past 20 years, the purchase of guns have increased drastically but at the same time, crimes with firearms are down a shocking 69% (Snyder). Gun control is often used to create laws for the intention of reducing gun injuries or death by gun and might involve background checks or creating difficulty to own a gun altogether. Some believe strict gun laws will help America reduce murder rates. However, others believe gun control will remove the right to bear arms as an individual. America needs to refrain from enforcing gun control because citizens have the constitutional right to own guns and gun control will fail to decrease murder rates which would better be decreased by a basic education of gun safety.
Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold, James Eagan Holmes, Stephen Paddock. You may ask yourself what these names have in common. I’ll tell you. They’re the names of just few of several individuals who’ve perpetrated mass shootings in the United States, and another trait they share? None other than mental illness.
Attention Getter: “The battle over guns has proven to be one of the most dangerous in America’s culture wars- and with the murder of 58 people in Las Vegas Sunday night, the debate over how to regulate them has begun again. The argument over gun control isn’t merely about safety. It’s about identity. The gun has transcended its function as a weapon to become a powerful cultural marker. It can signal what kind of person you are, and often to which tribe you belong”. – amp.usatoday.com
The United States of America is a nation of massacres by military-type assault weapons. Aware of the deadliness of these weapons and due to public safety concerns clearly outweighing the benefits of personal ownership of military-type assault weapons, the United States passed the 1994 Federal Ban on military-type assault weapons. This ban was notably effective during the 10 years it was in effect. However, the Ban automatically expired in 2004. Since that time, the number of U. S. mass murders has markedly increased. Attempts to reinstate the Ban, most recently the stricter 2013 Ban, have all failed. Nevertheless, the less restrictive 1994 Ban did pass the Senate and House of Representatives at one point and was successful. Therefore, the 1994 Federal Ban on military-type assault weapons should be reinstated.
Gun control has become an increasingly controversial topic in the nation due to the continuous debates relating to gun control and whether or not laws should be passed to make it harder for guns to be obtained. Guns serve for a variety of purposes that range from good to bad. Guns are not for everyone. Some individuals cannot handle guns properly, and some choose to use guns inappropriately. Lately, guns have become more of a problem in our society. There has been an increasing amount of shootings that have taken many lives and have wounded people emotionally, not just physically. Although guns are used for protection, firearms are reportedly used more in crimes. More and more shootings are breaking out across the nation. As a result, the
Therefor we can say that there was no mention of an individual right to bear arms in the notes about the Second Amendment when it was being drafted, discussed, or ratified; the US Supreme Court declined to rule in favor of the individual right four times between 1876 and 1939; and all law articles on the Second Amendment from 1888 to 1959 stated that an individual right was not guaranteed.
constitutional rights, as well as if it becomes effective in states, that would make people want
November the 5th, 2017 Devin Patrick Kelley shot up a Baptist Church in the small town of Sutherland Springs, killing 26 people. Amongst these murders was the pastor's daughter, who was only 14 years old. Another being a 8 month baby. Nobody in the church stood a chance against the countless firearms being held against them that sunday morning. Gun violence is nothing knew to this world. Every year people lose their lives to gun violence, majority if the time being a deliberate attack. When are we as a state, or as a country going to rid ourselves of the machines that have claimed millions of lives. When are we going to put down are foot and say “enough is enough?” Will it be the next time someone decides to shoot up an elementary school, slaughtering the lives of children? Or will it be when you come face to face with gun violence yourself. It is time that we take action to control gun violence.
Eighty-nine people depart from this earth due to gun violence in the US every day. From school children, to victims of domestic violence, to people going about their daily lives, this status quo is unacceptable. On Tuesday January 5th, 2016 President Obama announced that he would send proposals on reducing gun violence in America to Congress. His spokesman, Jay Carney, mentioned that this is “a complex problem that will require a complex solution.” The ability to own a gun is considered by some a birthright of Americans. However, with crime rates involving handguns rising each day it has become quite clear. Handgun laws must become stricter in order to reduce homicide and crime. The question is, “which solution in most effective in decreasing gun violence?” Gun control is a major conflict that is constantly reoccurring and the US is seemingly divided over it.
In the early hours of June 12th, 2016, one man, with hate in his heart, a warped world view, an arsenal of weapons, and a single motive, to kill, indiscriminately, senselessly, opened fire in a crowded nightclub in Orlando, Florida. His name, inconsequential. His act, heinous, and unimaginable. With that being said, this moment, is reminiscent of many moments that the US have endured in recent memory. With gun violence and mass shootings becoming the new normal, it is a scary notion to think that this violence, that this cancer, seems to be escalating, exponentially. It has become normal for my generation at least, having grown up with the tragic images of September 11th, and having gone to college and been shocked and rattled by the Boston Bombings, to believe that we are hopelessly and hilariously outnumbered, and most disturbingly, weaponless, against those who proclaim, and justify, their disinterest in discussion, tolerance, love, and hope.
Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience that each individual must take responsibility for his or her own actions. The must not blame guns for problems caused by people. .
In order to have a peaceful community, and for everyone in society to feel safe again, we need more restriction on guns such as who handles guns, when they are handling a gun, and what they are needing the gun for. Violence is a part of history, that has always been talked about. We don’t need violence anymore, and not having restrictions on guns, is just making the violence worse. We need to know the problems that guns have caused in the past, and today, and the real reason why people who are against gun control.
Imagine being a fourteen-year-old teen barely hitting puberty, unable to operate a moving vehicle, probably have not even received a first kiss and already attending college. Would the feeling be of excitement to have the ability of freedom and decision making? Or would it be one of the worst nightmares of starting a stressful, full of responsibilities, and working hard adult life at a young age? Many wonder what would it be like if high school never existed. There is the open imagination of teens having a degree and a well-paying job before turning twenty. But there is also the thought of society experiencing an economic crisis for a low demand for low-paying jobs that do not require a college degree. Where ever our imagination takes us, it is best that high school
