A main aspect of Richard’s, Duke of Gloucester, personality is his hatred of women, possibly due to most woman within Richard III holding more knowledge than the men, in regards to Richard’s deceiving nature. The only woman who is outsmarted by Richard is Lady Anne.

Richard then gloats over his success in a soliloquy stating how he has won her heart even though he is regarded by her as the devil with dissembling looks and he stabbed Edward her love just 3 months earlier. This highlights how he thinks of himself as the best as he brags about his misdeeds as though he is immortal.

     Once again Eleanor uses love on Richard. She talks about how she taught him this and that and she even went as far as mutilating herself to supposedly prove how much she loved him. However, it is revealed in later scenes that she merely wanted the Aquitaine just so she could raise the stakes with Henry.

Richard, as best he could, articulated the details of the planned meeting in a direct, businesslike manner, as that allowed him to focus on concrete actions. He needed to maintain a calm demeanour more for his sake than Lexi's, fearful that revealing his innermost concerns and mental turmoil could induce the Heiress to respond in the same vein, and he was uncertain if he could deal with the emotional fallout, which could be potentially much more intense than his own. For, despite what he'd endured, it paled in comparison to Lexi, who'd constantly been the one victimised and forced to face the threat of imminent consequence, whilst he'd remained free to decide the next move on his own terms.

Richard is a victim of bullying throughout the play, and this causes him to do harmful things to others. His deformity is something that he is very insecure about, and when characters in the play insult him, it leads to him getting revenge on them. Anne, when Richard is talking to her as a potential love interest, insults him, “Blush, blush, thou lump of deformity” (1.2.58). As Richard is trying to be charming, Anne strikes his insecurity, which upsets him, and causes him to hurt her later. Queen Margaret calls Richard names as well, “Thou elvish-marked, abortive, rooting hog” (1.3.228). This is especially hurtful to Richard, because he is trying to be especially desirable to win over her daughter, yet he is still called rude names. Later in the play, Richard implies that he is going to kill Anne, “Come hither; Catesby. Rumor it abroad / That Anne my wife is very grievous sick; / I will take order for keeping close”(4.2.50-52). This is awfully suspicious and implying that he is going to kill her, which is his revenge for her calling him a lump of deformity, as well as allowing him to proceed in his plans to take the throne. He is insecure about the insults, but he still tries his best to be kind to the women in the play.

Richard's mother, the Duchess of York lacks motherly instincts as shown when she turns against him and she even curses him to "die by God's just ordinance"(4.4.185). “O, she that might have intercepted thee, / By strangling thee in her accursed womb, / From all the slaughters, wretch, that thou hast done!” (4.4.136). Here the Duchess argues that her dominance as a woman may have been to kiss Richard before his birth, then toward the end of this speech she curses him to a bloody death. Her power was to give him life, and her curse to a certain degree is responsible for his death. Because characters such as Margaret haven’t got any physical or political power, she resorted to cursing which at first the other characters such as Richard in particular shrugged off her more evil side as the muttering of a "hateful, bitter hag" (1.3.217). Margaret's curses begin to come true as the play unfolds. Margaret's cursing is so skillful and successful that Queen Elizabeth and the Duchess of York plead for her to educate them how to do it. Queen Elizabeth even begs, "O thou well skilled in curses, stay a while / And teach me how to curse my enemies" (4.4.117). If Margaret's curses do consistently come true that would in a sense make her the most powerful character in the play. Even though her curses are prophetic and control the power of godlike justice, Margaret, just like the rest of the women, is powerless in the sense that there’s nothing she is able to do, curses and all to prevent Richard from murdering
