Located in Petrified Forest, Arizona, hundreds of people visit the park every year to witness the rainbow rocks and to view the many petrified logs. These logs are scattered all across the park and range from 60 to 125 feet long (World Book Encyclopedia, 1997). Along the logs are thousands of different species of plants and animals. Travelers will experience the many different geographic features and seasons of the park. The Petrified Forest has a vast variety of amazing geographic features including the Chinle Formations; colorful badland's hills with flat-topped mesas, and sculpted buttes. Minerals such as silica were dissolved from volcanic ash into the wood. Then crystallized the cellular structures of the logs and became large jewel-like crystals (Nationalparkservice.gov, 2017). In the Petrified Forest, there are over hundreds of species that occupy the massive landscape. People will be able to experience tremendous sized trees that's roots can split boulders and mountains to scavenge for nutrients. These trees are located on mesa tops and around the park. The most distinct tree of all are the pinon pines that can produce protein packed nuts that the native people used as their essential dose of protein. One pound of a pinon pine nuts can be scaled up to 3,000 calories. Mammals in the park include all different types bats, mice, rats, and many more (Nationalparkservice.gov, 2017). Probably the most fascinating mammal is the pronghorn due to its miniature horns, small tails, and elk like shape. These animals produce milk for their offspring and can find shelter in many different locations around the park. Reptiles are one of the highly dense species due to the large amounts of snakes, lizards, and …show more content…

Around 50 animal species live in the park. The most common animals seen by visitors are kangaroo rats, cottontail rabbits, and mule deer. Mountain lions do live there, but are rarely seen. Desert bighorn sheeps are also seen, but south of the visitor center

Little Cottonwood Canyon is a site bursting with geological history, rock formations earthquake potential on the fault, prehistoric glacial formations, landslides, and many hazards associated with it. The Wasatch fault is bound to have a enormous earthquake in the future and has left behind numerous scars. The mountains have been engraved by glacial formations dated back to the Ice Age (~14,000 years ago). Rock falls and landslides have left hefty boulders as indication of erosion and moisture in the rocks. The hazards on this mountain range are mass wasting, radon, earthquakes, and flooding of Little Cottonwood Creek.

Today is the day, I, Matthew Roach, ride Mystic Timbers at Kings Island. I am riding with my father, Steve, and my sister, Abby. Abby and I notice fake security cameras on a television. We recognize the footage on the TVs as Slenderman, which is a horror game. We have been waiting in line for about the past 15 minutes and finally it is our turn. We get in the train and wait for the ride to start. The people monitoring the Mystic Timbers yell “ALL CLEAR” and the ride began. The wooden track was rough and the train was going 60-70 miles per hour. I only had one question, what was in the shed. The train starts to slow down as we approach the shed. As we approach the shed I see it, weapons. All of the sudden, we stop and I wonder, “What happens

The soils in this area are primarily Inceptisols and Spotosols. These soils formed under the colder temperatures you would expect in higher elevation mountain areas. The White Mountain National Forest climate ranges from a bitter 4°F in the winter months to a steamy 80° in the summer months. The annual average temperature ranges from about 35-46°F. The NRCS characterizes the area as "cool and humid."
Yosemite National Park, founded in 1890, thanks largely to the efforts of John Muir, is 748,000 acres situated in the Sierra Nevada mountain range within the state of California. The park, home to over 400 species of animals, five separate forests and zones, eight types of rocks and cliffs, and nine waterfalls, attracts many visitors. The park’s landscape changes with the seasons; there is also a variety of activities that visitors can participate in depending on the season and weather. The National Park Service strives to preserve Yosemite; it is home to many threatened and endangered species, wildflowers that only exist in Yosemite, and all the park’s geological features and natural beauty should not be harm by man.
For my engagement assignment, I decided to join the club AZ Sabers. I didn’t join this club just because I had to fill a requirement, but because I actually wanted to. I chose to join this club because the whole idea of it sounded cool. I mean doesn’t fighting people with light sticks sound like a good idea? I first discovered this club at passport to ASU and I decided to join with a couple of my friends, which made it less nerve wracking to go into, compared to going in without knowing anybody. I have been in this club since August, and so far it has been a really enjoyable experience.
My perception and interpretation of GhostFood have undoubtedly evolved more times than I can count. Participating in public art and engaging with strangers from various backgrounds has been a bizarre, risky, yet enlightening experience that I have found academically enriching and personally impactful. The very strangeness of GhostFood has thrusted me into the culturally colorful, yet much to be explored and understood Baltimore.

Look at all those tree stumps; it’s as if a giant cut down the trees. Wandering the Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona, I noticed the fallen trees were devoid of bark and branches and some appeared cut, with a chainsaw.
Between the beaches on the coastline of Australia there are rocky headlands. Some are gently sloping whereas others dip steeply into the ocean. Some rocky shores are strongly contorted and broken, while others form flat or horizontal platforms and reefs. Every rocky headland type has a wide range of habitats and microhabitats, available for colonisation by animals and algae. There numerous categories of rocky shore for example; granite shores, basalt shores, limestone shores, sandstone shores, metamorphic shores and boulder shores. Rocky shores are excellent havens for intertidal creatures such as mussels, anemones, limpets and top shells, and a countless variety of algae species. Rocky shores and sandy beaches alternate along the shores of
As stated earlier Virginia pine was once considered a weedy species with no economic value. As management, technology, and a greater understanding of the forest ecosystem so did the view point on Virginia pine’s economical uses. Virginia pine is now considered a valuable tree species with many uses such as wildlife habitat, Christmas tree production, wood uses, reclaimed areas, etc. (Carter and Snow Jr. 1990). According to research done on the behavior of woodpeckers in forested stands, such as Virginia pine, it was found that the forest stands contribute to woodpecker habitat and that they need proper management to keep providing habitat in the future (Crawford and Conner 1974). A key feature of Virginia pine is that as the tree ages it is prone to wood softening due to fungal decay (Carter and Snow Jr. 1990). This allows the woodpeckers to create nesting habitat within the trees bole. Another aspect of Virginia pine is that it provides a source of food to many bird species, including woodpeckers. As insects drill into the bark of the tree resin is released trapping the insects allowing the birds to eat right off the tree (Crawford and Conner 1974). Virginia pine is also important for browse by deer and rabbits. A study was in in 1970 to determine the caloric intake of Virginia pine at different times in the season, the trees age, and even position in the stand (Madgwick 1970). It was found that the caloric values increased in new shoots, needles, and cones
The carboniferous period lasted from about 359.2 to 299 million years ago, during the Paleozoic era. The name “carboniferous” came from the large amounts of carbon-bearing coal that was formed during the period. Several major biological, geological, and climatic events occurred at this time. The amniote egg allowed further exploitation for certain tetrapods. It enabled ancestors of birds, mammals, and reptiles to lay their eggs on land without fear of being dehydrated. The carboniferous period was divided into two major subdivisions, the Mississippian and the Pennsylvanian. The Mississippian was the early half and the Pennsylvanian being the last half.
